Snow

Recommended Posts

More snow overnight, another inch or so. Woke this morning to thick freezing fog which is now lifting to be replaced with small snowflakes falling. Temperature is -5c.

I can see DD's school being closed again tomorrow. DD has an appointment tomorrow morning at the Asthma clinic. She has a terrible dog barking cough :( The appointment was made 6 weeks ago and that was the earliest she could be fitted in. The surgery is 5 miles away so I need to get there by car as we are not near a bus route.

DS is supposed to off down to Aviemore today on a Snowboarding holiday with a group of friends. He may as well stay at home and go sledging down the Castle hill.

A tiny bit of snow here, falling on top of the 5 inches we had yesterday.

I am having great fun sitting here in my office watching idiots who don't know how to drive on compacted icy snow trying & failing to get up the long hill my house is at the bottom of.

And 4x4 drivers coming the other way who are driving as normal....& stupidly braking as normal too  There have already been a couple of bumps.

I really think that now we have had these conditions for a couple of years, there out to be a Government ad campaign to educate people,& it should be part of the driving test too.

We had about 4" on Friday night when my poor OH was tring to get back from Utrecht. Wisely he and a colleague managed to get some of the last seats on Eurostar and though it took him 14 hours he was home very late friday evening.

Yesterday though, my DD had a driving lesson. Her instuctor asked her if she was "up for it" and she said yes. We then had a 1 hour unforecast snow storm which she had to drive through. Her Instructor said he was really proud of her! :D I encouraged her to go as I thought it would be good experience to learn in a dual controlled car how to cope with the horrible snow and ice we were left with. I think it should be part of the driving test too :wink:

Hubby has taken my eldest out in her little 4x4 Panda - she only passed this week 8)

He said she coped really well - he set her off up & down some steep hills & got her to do an emergency stop, just so she has had the experience of skidding on the ice.

She actually really enjoyed it,& wants to take the car out tonight to a friends house

We have persuaded her that it will be safer all round for us to drop her off.....

It is now a beautiful sunny day here! Minus 6 or so, but there is a slight thaw thanks to the sun  I managed to completely clear the front path and made a wide, snow free walkway on the pavement outside my house, once the compacted stuff is out of the way it moves with a stiff broom. I've just come in from spending an hour in the graden clearing the snow off the WIR, and the clear tarps on the outside run.

Maisie came out and ran into some snow, without realising it was deep  She ran off shaking her feathers! Lola has decided that now is a good time for her first moult

The velux windows in the kitchen are completely covered over with snow but I can see some of it is melting from the underneath  We are supposed to have night time temperatures of minus 15 tonight round here

I'm trying to decide if to risk getting the train from Oxford to Birmingham tomorrow where our main office is or drive into a more local office just off the M4 in Reading. Not sure which is worst- risking a repeat of a 6 hour journey back by train to Oxford like last Thursday ( and that is, if we don't have frozen points on the way up) or drving over the Downs and then slipping/sliding around an industrial estate by the M4!

Maybe I'll work from home ...

My Nephews Friend,James,Said it's the worst snow they've had for over 10 years

There's at least 3 inches of ice on the roads and a bit more on the paths :shameonu:
