dancing cloud
Your newbies look lovely - naked, but lovely (and they'll soon get feathers) and gorgeous names too . The before and after photos of your others show just what a difference tlc can make! I have only ever had ex batts/barns and some snotty person at work said that rescuing them made no difference . I pointed out that, while it made very little difference to ending battery farming, it made a world of difference to each of the individual little souls playing happily in my garden and your photos just prove that all over again . Ex batts, we love 'em!

scarlettohara
Just got in from work and Saffron was sitting in the middle of the run singing to herself I popped her back in the coop and shut the door - I think she may be a sleepwalker

How can someone say a thing like that I know....the same kind of person that says "It's only a chicken" when we get upset when we lose a little mite Well done all you ex-bat rehomers
Luvachicken
Probably a silly question, but what breed are battery chickens ? I think I might get them next time but will have to persuade hubby first.
Lavenders_Blue
Ex battery hens are Warrens. Lovely, friendly, docile hens although be aware that they often display some behaviour problems to start with, but this usually settles down and goes away within the first few weeks as they realise they are more interesting things to do than bully each other. dancing cloud
How can someone say a thing like that I know....the same kind of person that says "It's only a chicken" when we get upset when we lose a little mite Yes, they're exactly that sort or person and certainly not someone whose views I hold in high regard ! On the up-side, lots of people at work are really interested in my girlies and how well they are doing, and several of them have visited and been mugged by their little egg-providers . Anyone seeing scarlettohara's lovely before and after photos would understand what a difference it makes Technically they may be Warrens but I think their true breed is that of cheeky chook. I'm not sure any of my little rabble could truly be described as docile

scarlettohara
Well done Sara, they'll be fully feathered and enjoying the lap of luxury in no time What do you mean 'in no time' I'm already in the run massaging limbs twice a day
Lavenders_Blue
Technically they may be Warrens but I think their true breed is that of cheeky chook. I'm not sure any of my little rabble could truly be described as docile Oh yes they are definitely cheeky! It doen't take long for them to recognise the treat pot and start jumping up in your face rather than waiting patiently for you to dish out the sweeties Oh yes, and to learn how to break out of their netting and dust bathe in the veg patch But they are docile in the sense that they are not, by nature, nervy flighty birds. Or at least mine aren't. But cheeky, yes!
tom123
How lucky they are to have found you! Hope they are fully feathered and doing 'chickeny' things soon
sadietoo
Bless their little cotton socks...(ok k"Ooops, word censored!"bly toe s)...so glad they found a loving home, and looking forward to hearing of their exploits in the coming months (and years).... (Once OH has built me this promised WIR (of which you often hear me speak ), I shall be looking to add a couple of ex-batts...and relying on the wonderful adviceon the forum for getting them settled and back to full health). scarlettohara
I'm going to let them out later to enjoy the sunshine (yes the big yellow ball has made an appearance ) and hoping Saffron will walk around a bit more - she is standing on one leg all the time. I picked up some anti-inflammatory from my vet for her so hoping she will start putting that leg down a bit more
