What is the one best thing about owning chickens for you?

Recommended Posts

I love everything about them, from tidying up their coop, to making their lives more interesting, to how excited they get when they seem me, finding their eggs, listening to the chattering and I love saying goodnight to them and seeing all 4, friends now, all cuddled together.

What a great thread. :D

the amazing connection to nature..

when I'm not sitting there smiling at the chickens I'm smiling at the wonderful world of nature around them...marveling at the days getting just a little bit longer, paying more attention than normal to the weather, wondering what to plant that is chicken proof - to the wild birds on my feeders

I love the noises they make, from the quiet mumbling to themselves to the loud and raucous shouting our Lucky makes when she's about to lay an egg. I love watching them dustbath, wriggling and rolling around in the soil, looking as though they are in seventh heaven. Finally, I love getting fresh eggs every day. :D:D:D

This is my own little bit of countryside. I love the way my 2 do everything together, especially when they sunbathe in the tiny amount of sun in my garden today - they hate being apart for any sort of treatment and the one left behind really moans.

I love how all the dust falls off when they shake their feathers and the huge craters they dig in their run. They are just a pleasure to have every day - I just wish I had a bigger garden so they could have their own green space to go in.

Now "let me count the ways" . . .

I too work from home and it could get rather lonely if it wasn't for my little chooks

I love the noises they make, their funny antics, the fact that they have connected me to such warm, kind people on the Omlet forum (I work in IT which is anything but warm)

I love their pretty feathers (fluff really for the Silkies and the Frizzles have hair dos like my own  ), the fact that they have made my garden come alive (it was rather prissy before) and above all I love the fact that they make me smile when I am down. :D

Only had mine for a week but I love seeing their little personalities develop, working out whose going to be top chick. How they get all excited when they see me - I know they're after food but no-one else in my family gets that excited when they see me! Wondering when and whose going to lay the 1st egg. We have a little competition going here. And yes how they're bringing a little bit of the countryside into an otherwise boring town back garden :D .

Gosh, I love so many things about my girls. But the one thing that makes me laugh the most is the way they spend hours looking into the house through the french doors when they are FR in the garden. They particularly enjoy looking in if I'm having my lunch, must be like visiting the zoo at feeding time! They even tap on the glass with their beaks, cheeky madams
