Olly
I plan a date in the diary, otherwise it ends up being a huge rush. This year it'll be 1st December as I happen to have that weekend free, and I have got visitors coming the following weekend so I want the decorations up in time. It's not always quite that early though!
soapdragon
We do ours about 2 weeks before the day! Used to be Christmas Eve but, having two young boys, just does not work that way any more!

But not thinking about doing either just yet (although started buying/making gifts last December!!) I'm beginning to get excited

Lewis
It always used to be after mine (11th) and Moms (13th) birthdays but for the last couple years they've gone up early. Think they'll go up early in our Uni house 'cos we finish for Christmas on the 14th!
patsylabrador
As soon as I can from now on though most will go up 1st Dec. I'm knitting some decorations this year so they tend to be laying about because I'm pleased that they look vaguely like the knitting recipe. Bought a bundle of Christmas CDs yesterday so they'll be sneaking onto my iPod and out into house from today. I like decorating the house, I was sad to take down the Halloween ones this year so can't wait for christmas ones.
chuckmum6
1st Dec until 1st Jan, one month of sparkle and pine smell. OH counts down to Jan so he can clear it all away, the boys and I love it!
Cinnamon
Goodness,I thought it was traditional to put them up 12 days before Christmas & take them down 12 days after & everyone did this? I am really surprised at all you early birds! That said I looked at a mirror in my dining room yesterday & saw a garland of coloured drops still draped over it from last year
Charlottechicken
I do mine a few days before Christmas, and take them down on 12th night. I like them up for my birthday on 3rd Jan

Reikiranf
I put mine up a week before Christmas and take them down on January 2nd by which time I'm usually sick of them
bluekarin
Mine usually go up the day after the kids break up for the hols and come down on 12th night. This year they may go up earlier, more like the weekend before they breakup as they aren't breaking up until 21st this year. Plus I want to get a real tree this year and want to make the most of it
Willow
I have 1 or 2 advent decorations that come out 1st Dec (or as soon after that as I can manage to get into the loft ) The rest the w/e before Christmas (or the one before that if Christmas is early in the week). They usually come down shortly after new year.
Looney
Mine go up when I get around to it, but never earlier than the second week in December! Our living room is small and with two small children running about I have refused to have a Christmas tree (other than a tiny 25cm potted one on top of the cabinet) for the last few years...OH is not impressed but there really is nowhere to put one that wouldn't be in the way! What I do is hang baubles and decorations from coloured strings around the walls and ceiling, it actually looks really lovely and festive - but takes ages to do! The Dogmother
As late as poss. Same here! A colleague is already excited and would happily put up decs in October whilst I love Christmas, I really don't like the tacky stuff, so no tinsel or singing things in my office thanks! chicken bark
It used to be Christmas Eve for me too. I sort of feel they should only be up for the 12 days of Christmas BUT I find post Christmas to New Years a bit flat so I have now (since having 3 children) started putting them up a couple of weeks before so we can all get excited about Christmas. Shocked that a Grotto near us is already open - it is November for goodness sake!
Angie
When the girls were young it was two weeks before , but since they got wed and left home, which has been over 11 /14 years now I put them up later and later. I don't even like a tree up anymore and OH doesn't mind this either, but I like the decs up , and lights plus shelf sitters.....i have got some new ones from home sense this year and a 5 ft tall door hanging elf advent calender ( i have to find some chocs to put in the pockets. ) So any time from about the 20th but it can be quite magical doing it on Christmas eve. And a stocking on the bed post , hoping that the OH puts something nice in it before i wake up
