Cinnamon
Cleo, my 12 year old has to have an operation to remove 4 teeth, including one which has become lodged in her lower jaw I feel horrible, she is in tears (shock,I think) but her sister who had a small op a few years ago has been fantastic at cheering her up & making her feel confident about the procedure. I can't believe I have to go through the worry of a day in Hospital waiting with a child to have an operation, then waiting during the Op to hear everything is OK. It was truly a horrible stressful day last time,& Cleo is quite a highly strung girl (panic attacks, possibly) so I am going to need to keep calm about it all myself, for her sake
Lesley
Have some Rescue Remedy to hand Sarah. I'm sure it is just the shock at the moment, but I know you've said before that Cleo is a bit highly strung. It sounds as if your other daughter is handing out some good advice. Do you have a date yet?
lisa33
I hope Cleo gets through her op with as much ease as possible. I had to go to hospital when I was about 8 or 9 ( a few years ago now) to have teeth removed. I was supposed to be in three days but only had to stay overnight. With her sister & you to help keep her mind off it as much as possible, she'll be fine.
Mrs Frugal
Sarah, she'll be fine. Both my boys had operations when they were very young - Ollie's had 3 and was absolutely fine. The staff are fantastic with young ones. I'd had 7 major operations by the time I was 13 and they go out of their way to make sure that both the parents and the child are relaxed and know exactly what's going to happen to them. Don't worry - impossible, I know as I sat and sobbed my heart out to see both my boys head off into the operating theatre . Make sure she's got something to keep her occupied as there's so much waiting around to do and if she's nervous and you're nervous, it helps keep you both calm. Big hug to you both xxx
Karen & co.
Ditto to the rescue remedy, and I'm sure you will both be fine It's really sweet of your other daughter to be reassuring her I'm waiting at the moment for the Orthodontist to ring to say if Christopher has to have teeth out too karen x
The Dogmother
I had my wisdom teeth removed in my early twenties, the op was fine with a bit of discomfort afterwards, but no real problems. Perhaps your dentist woudl talk through the procedure with Cleo so that she knows what it involves and there are less 'unknowns'
Cinnamon
Thanks The Rescue Remedy is at hand, for me as much as for her actually! What a terrible day to re start my diet - I could murder a glass of wine No date yet - the Orthodontist is referring us in 6 weeks time,so goodness knows when we will actually get a date It was a horrible shock. We had been all set for a regular extraction at the Dentists, when this was told to us today. Not helped by the Ortho being Indian & us not being able to undertand him too well, either. I feel so tearful - am off to have a quiet sit down & a bit of a calm down too. Louise
I had 4 teeth out under a general when I was about 12 and then when I was 17 I had to have 4 wisdom ones extracted in hospital too and I survived she will be fine Just remind her of all the jelly and ice cream she will get to eat when her mouth is sore Mind you I can't bear ready brek now as at one point after the wisdoms I wasn't allowed anything hot (scabs) and because my jaw was swollen all I could eat were lukewarm soup and ready brek
Chocobo
I'm sure she'll be fine, have a nice calm sit down and a large glass of wine.
Guest
Best wishes to you both What a worrying thing to happen but your eldest daughter sounds very sensible and extremely kind and saying all the right things to help Cleo I'm sure she will be fine, she will be well looked after by the nursing staff especially if she is nervous Big hugs to you and the girls PS Maybe you could start the diet tomorrow I think a small glass of wine would help calm the nerves Edited September 3, 2007 by Guest

Looney
Poor Cleo (and you!), but it's for the best...no consolation to you both at the moment I know. Whenever my brother or I ever had to undergo things like tooth extraction (only ever under local not general), or having rusty nails removed from feet my Mum made it seem like the most normal thing in the world - caring but very matter-of-fact about everything. I hope all goes well for Cleo x
Snowy
Poor you Cinnamon But as everyone's said, I'm sure she'll be fine (I had the same thing as well - 4 teeth out under GA aged 10 ) Have that glass of wine - it's just the shock at the moment. (((hugs)))
Happymama
I had four milk molars removed when I was 11, by gas. It was entertaining, at the least, I remember waking up half way through, and then after playing with the wobbly blood clots with my tongue while I spat blood into the flower beds outside the bank waiting for my mum, after. Didn't hurt too much, I remember, and ice pops are a cheap and easy and effective treatment, and on offer in all supermarkets now. My wisdom teeth have been much more sensibly behaved, thankfully. I've got two and another thinking about it. No space for the fourth, and hopefully it's heard me. DS is 7 and has just been circumcised (foreskin hadn't released) and that was an hour and a half under anaesthetic, and a week of seamless pain relief, so I know what you're going to go through. If you're ok when you come round from GA's, she will be, apparently they take after their mums, and the first thing mine said was 'FEED ME' which is exactly what I do, when I come round. And then keep saying it until someone does something about it, usually in desperation in the end.
SarahJo
ooohhhh ... can't offer any advice as it all has been given. I had soup and drinks thro' straws after hospital removel of wisdom teeth. One tip my dentist gave was Neurofen before having fillings - and before anaesthetic she is NOT a baby because she wants the numbing gel on her hands - I still ask for it .... All her fave soft foods, and lots of TLC . x x x
Egluntyne
She'll be fine. My daughter had to have 4 teeth out to make room for un-descended wisdom teeth prior to having braces fitted. She was OK. Nothing a bit of paracetamol couldn't shift. I was more upset at the prospect of her having 4 perfect un decayed teeth removed! Big hug to you both xxx Kates right I had a op (nothing serious) when I was 11 and the staff there were really kind to both me and my parents, i was nervous but the staff told us everything and hid nothing from us, the best bit is just falling asleep then in a minute your awake again! wiiiieerd hope everything will be ok and dont forget to tell your daughter about the staff and things because I am 12 at the moment and at my age when something like this is going to hapen you REALLY want to know everything, and i mean EVERYTHING! curiousity, i think most 12 year olds are like it, or is it just me well, good luck xxx
theherd123
Sarah when i read the first post i instantly thought of Rescue Remedy but it appears that great minds think alike and so did everyone else! Having teeth removed is awful - i had 10 taken out as a child Im sure Cleo will be fine and i hope you get the date through soon so it gives you a timescale for preparation. Cinnamon
Thanks everyone. Now the initial shock has gone we are(or should I say I am) feeling calmer. Cleo is looking forward to the ice cream afterwards!
buffie
Sorry to hear this. My dad just had day surgery, well 2 weeks ago, and it went brilliantly, I used to be a real worrier. I planned the day with my mum and kept busy, it flew by and no panic attacks. Take aconite for you and give cleo aconite and arnica, works wonders for shock and healing Hugs BBx
