Dishwasher recomendations please...

Recommended Posts

Hi, dishwasher not heating up the water apparently its going to need a new board (??). As its over 10 years old and the repair will cost £140 plus labour..not sure its worth repairing. I'm assuming a newer one would be more efficient.

But having just started browsing the internet..its a minefield. :? ..so I said to OH I know where to get good advice.......and here I am. Your thoughts advice and experience appreciated, please help, thanks :)

Hi Miffy, Beko DWD5410, A/Energy, A/Clean, A/Dry. Absolutely bullet proof, get it from Argos

We've had 2 Zanussi dishwashers, both broke down just after the guarantee ran out. Both needed new heating elements, We should have learnt our lesson with the first one.

The Beko has been excellent, everything comes out spotless and bone dry.

We have nothing to do with Beko, but we can highly recommend the DWD5410, Google it you'll be glad you did....

We are currently looking into buying a new dishwasher. My main consideration is how much water it uses. Some machines use such a lot and as we are on a water meter we are looking to reduce our consumption. They vary such a lot. Worth looking out for I think.

We've just bought our very first dishwasher - hurrah

I did weeks of trauling the internet looking at reviews. A lot of people say that Indicit, Zanussi, hotpoint don't seem to last long but most seem to rave about Bosch.

We decided to go for the Bosch - which is a little more expensive than the above mentioned, but hopefilly it will last longer. Very happy with it so far - had it 3 weeks.

We have just replaced our Neff (5 years old and had to spend £220 at Christmas to repair it  ) and it broke again a month or so ago.

We now have a Bosch and so far I'm really pleased with it. I've only had it a week though so I can't say for sure it will last

My SIL swears by Bosch though. She has had one for 10 years and it was in the house when they bought it so probably older than that.

We've got a Miele and had no problems at all over the last 7 or 8 years, but my son has a Bosch and I'm impressed. Our washing machine is a Bosch and I love it. Miele is expensive and we've found ours excellent, but I probably wouldn't buy another as I think you can get the equivalent quality with Bosch these days for less money.

When I bought mine I joined Which? and their recommendation was the Miele. Failing that, Bosch. I couldn't afford the Miele and found the Bosch model I wanted reduced in Comet because it had a slight dent in the door 8) It's been brilliant (5 years old now).

Hi

My last dishwasher very good was hotpoint but the door has broken, but found a Miele on the co op on line site and it has 5 yeas guarantee parts and labour and I am pleased with my Miele vacum that decided to splash out but the Co op was really efficient and friendly delivery paid about £400+ which is good for Miele,

good luck indie :)

Thanks for that. The broken dishwasher is Bosch and we have been pleased with it, this is the first break down. we cant remember exctly how old but def over 10yrs old, so I guess thats not too bad.

What is the life expectancy in general of dishwashers? is it worth looking at Miele.....price :shock:

edited to add

are they all cold fill??

We've always had Hotpoint (used to be all British made but have Bosch innards now)

We replaced our last one last December with another Hotpoint and it is wonderfully quiet - we have to check to see if the timer is counting down! - the only problem with this one is that full size dinner plates stop the dryer bit from working properly unless we tilt the plates.

I will get round to writing to Hotpoint about that one day

I know if you do a search around the internet you can find who makes for who - I know Hotpoint, Ariston and Indesit are all the same company. My washer repair man told me that the inside gubbins will all be the same and you just pay more or less for the front branding.

Also, do you have a local shop who is part of Euronics as mine has always been cheaper than Comet, Currys etc and gives fantastic service. They even lent me a washing machine free of charge when there was a delay on the one I'd ordered through them.

Thanks Anne, the is an ETS near us who are part of Euronics will check them out...no web site :(

I'm not sure where to find out who makes for which labels. Hotpoint seem much cheaper than Bosch.....even if they make it will it be of the same build and component quality??

Miffy, am pretty sure that Hotpoint don't make Bosch. Plus, if you go for Bosch make sure it's German made as I know when we got our washer I was told the cheaper ones weren't as well made. I'm assuming it's still the same. My washer must be at least 8 years old now. Just wish I could remember all my washer repair man told me as he reeled off a list of who owns who and also who to avoid! He does repair a lot of Hotpoints and wasn't complimentary about their build nowadays. I'm sure I've seen a list somewhere possibly on MSE so if I can find it easily I'll post back.

Edited to add AEG and Electrolux are now the same compaony and I know Liebherr make fridges and freezers for Miele :)

Yes I had Bosch dishwasher but was told that re Washing machines that to make sure it was made in Germany too and that the cheaper Bosch were made in Spain(that was some time ago). I have had Zanussi when they were really good(2 of those ..second was useless had a new motor) The Bosh was ok 5 years. The Hotpoint was v good but the door broke and when I looked at getting another it was a common problem on a review site? So didnt want to get Miele£££ but everyone raved and Co op was doing a good deal as they usually go £700 (which would not pay) . The only thing I find with Miele is the programmes do take ages. I bumped into a vicar at a hospital and he recommended the Miele!

The Hotpoint was not as low in price as they use to be but it was very good..

Seems to be pot luck with white goods

indie :)

We used to have a fab Bosch - it served us well RIP! We bought a Miele a short while ago and so far we have been extremely pleased with it. I know it's expensive, but we figured they are so reliable and built to last, so in the long run should work out better. Good luck with whatever you settle with.

My old dishwasher was a Hotpoint and that lasted nearly 10 years so when that died we got another Hotpoint and oh how I wish we hadn't, it's not a patch on the old one although it's meant to be an improved version :( It stopped working before it was 3 years old so the parts were still under guarantee but they couldn't send an engineer for 13 days which I thought was unacceptable, so I got a local man in to repair it I wrote to Hotpoint regarding the matter and suggesting it would be nice if they could reimburse me for the cost of the spare part but they refused, so after much correspondence I told them that when my Hotpoint Hob, extractor fan, oven and washing machine needing replacing that I would be changing brands as I know knew their products to be as shoddy as their customer service  They never replied but I certainly felt better

I've since found out from an ex Hotpoint engineer that my old Hotpoint machine would have been made by Bosch  But since Indesit took over Hotpoint the goods are now indesit and not as reliable and that's when he stopped working for them.
