Snow

Recommended Posts

I've already uncovered the chooks once today, looks like I will need to do it again at lunchtime.

Claire, the roads in the town centre are pretty bad - mine is a side road and impassable as per usual (unless you have a tractor), the main road past the office (West Bar) is very dodgy, still thick snow but people are attempting to drive along it and fish-tailing everywhere. No sign of any gritters as per usual.

Rumours of chap with landy charging people to haul them out of the snow

Hellooooooo. Ahoy there!

20 cms measured at 8 this morning and it's still snowing. Murray has made a couple of DIY snow shovels with hardboard and made a path through to the birds. Not one peep from them - any of them. I think they're in shock!

However it is quite wet and there are signs of melting underneath - lots of dripping going on. I have been making Redwings pecka thingies. Actually it smells really nice in an oaty sort of way.

Murray is now shovelling snow off the cars and making a path to the roadway because he doesn't want to be marooned as much as last time - when it froze and none of us could go anywhere. Strike while the snow is hot as they say. I am going to have to brave it to go to the docs (hello blood pressure and elephant feet - a few wee tablets for me  ) and I shall be wearing my Ice Station Zebra coat for the first time since we bought it . . . . in Florida quite a few years ago. Have taken lots of pics, but will make notes this time as how to put them on myself - if I can catch what nimble fingered Speedy Gonzales does.

Its Alcan hill that Dads deliveries can't get up. Not sure how the inlaws are, they are by the coffee factory will get Si to ring them later.

We have at least 40cm here and it's still coming down! I had to go and rescue Marigold this morning, she ran out of the eglu run towards the house, and then got scared halfway and couldn't move.:lol:

Ooh that's deeeeeeep. Time for a chorus of Good King Wenceslas I think - mainly because that's been going round in my otherwise empty head all morning.

We've just had to clear the snow from the conservatory roof as it was bowing  still coming down and no one has attempted our road. ES went across the road to clear path for our elderly opposite neighbours but I doubt anyone will be venturing in or out there - thought it was sweet he thought of it so didn't put him off

I know I would say it, but I don't think its fair to ask staff to go in with the no children, they shut it for the kids for a reason

Hear, hear, Lewis  . Shall I give you my head teacher's mobile number :lol: .

It turned out they shut ours to all staff and pupils :)

I've just looked out my window and our neighbours (the nosey ones :lol): who are late 50's/60 are out in the snow making a snow man 8)

There's a college in Lichfield that stayed open but they made a group on facebook and no-one went in

No more snow here but the schools are closed again as the school buses aren't running and the police are still advising emergency journeys only.

Both boys are out making a huge snowman as now that the snow has frozen a bit it sticks together better than the powder of yesterday.

It's lovely to look at but I really feel for all of you who are struggling with power supplies etc.

OH is finally starting to appreciate my hoarding tendencies - we still have days until we run out of milk (and more importantly loo roll :lol: )

Some very interesting meals happening here as we work our way through the freezer and cupboards

I am glad it has finally reached you now Cookie!!! Having said that I've just looked up and out of the window to see that it is snowing up here again!!!

Will I get a third snow day or be told to go in and clear the playground like ANH!!!! Mutters under breath about job description

BTW we have a moorhen that has taken up residence with the chooks since the weekend. Stands near them and eats bits of their food. They don't seem bothered. Anyone else had this happen?

Just had another car lose it on our corner & is now hanging over the protective bollards into the drainage ditch  The chap knows the road very well & was only doing about 5mph, thankfully he missed the Merc travelling on the side he crossed to get to the ditch  by inches :shock:

I've taken a few piccies..........Anyone fancy a swim......

The chooks houses & runs, with the roof of the WIR bowing in...the snow has been cleared off once....may need another sweep off soon as it hasn't stopped snowing all morning

This is my pellet bucket which I forgot to bring in last night, at least 2 inches deep this morning & it was only just outside the porch, so relatively protected

p.s. The hubby of last night's accident (not the Polish one  ) has just brought a lovely card to say thank you for our help & let us know that the van will be collected when a recovery vehicle can sensibly get to us..........he's enlisted a friend in a 4WD to bring him over & collect all the kit out of the van before it goes off to the garage to be fixed.

Cookie! So glad you have finally got your share. My family are in St. Neots and nieces and nephews have also been complaining about lack of the white stuff.

Still need some more here though...

Off to walk the dogs in the fields. Fantastic!

Wild Mum, thanks for the offer, but I'll pass on the swim if you don't mind.
