Diagnosis at last!!

Good news.....and not so good........

Lauren had her leg in full plaster for some weeks and then in a leg brace and eventually a knee brace. She wasn't allowed to go back to school because she was on crutches until last week. Getting the knee brace was a complete farce as we were sent to Stratford Hospital for it to be fitted.....she still had the plaster on and Stratford don't have plaster technicians....it took all day as we had to go to Warwick and she had the plaster removed. Another problem was the man who was to fit the knee brace took one look at Lauren and said the one they'd sent would not fit her even without the plaster.....no-one had measured her leg

She went back to school on Wednesday - she was ecstatic as she loves school :D

Today she wanted to play in the park in the village, she complained about having to wear her brace but wasn't allowed out without it.........at 4pm her knee gave way, she stumbled and fell, putting her arms out to save herself....and has dislocated her shoulder again......she's still at Warwick waiting to have it put back :( She's not a happy bunny tonight.

She's put quite a bit of weight on since Christmas.....I was coming on here to ask about ways to help her lose the weight without affecting her self esteem - she's becoming quite self-conscious about it. She is perfectly aware of healthy options and loves healthy food but she also loves stuff that isn't helping her and her best friend seems to live on rubbish - any ideas?

(....and, on top of that, Carl has broken his toe tonight  )

Carl stubbed his toes on the stair gate in the kitchen - heard the crack......he's not going to hospital and has taped it up himself

More news re Lauren - they have put her shoulder back twice and it won't stay so they are talking of operating. The consultant said previously that he wouldn't operate as her shoulders are multi-laterally unstable, so they're trying to find him for his opinion.

Ooooo ouch many times over  I feel for Carl, that is such an easy injury to do :anxious:

Poor little Lauren, she must be feeling very sorry for herself tonight, just when things seemed to be getting a bit better.......well a brace is better than a plaster isn't it :anxious:

Re the weight situation, she won't have been moving around as much due to her injuries, and won't be moving much again now either......if she isn't operated on but is plasterless on her leg would she be able to swim, maybe under a physios watchful eye?

I do hope she gets some good news soon

{{hugs}} to you all,

Sha x

Carl is a walking disaster......he's always breaking bones

Lauren has just got home - third time of trying put it right. First and second try they were telling her it was back in but she knew it wasn't. They won't take her word for it and send her back for X rays - now they've said that she mustn't have more X rays and her Mum is to just say next time.... Neither Lauren or my daughter have eaten since lunchtime - Lauren because she may have to be operated on and my daughter becasue she never dares to leave to find a sandwich in case she misses the consultant.......they never hang around for anyone

Oh Lesley, I am so sorry about all of this. You must be beside your self. It is hard to imagine how poor Lauren must feel - let alone her Mum and you. With regard to losing weight, would it be worth her while going to see a good dietitian? One of my neighbours' son became very overweight and trying to diet on his own didn't seem to help. He went to a dietitian who was really sympathetic and helpful and he has lost an enormous amout of weight with her help. However, I suppose the last thing Lauren or her Mum wants now is more appointments!

Hope Carl's toe isn't too painful :(

:( Oh goodness Lesley, I'm in tears about all this, poor Lauren. Perhaps if she gave up sweets for Lent it would be an excuse to not share with her friend.

Maybe cakes & biscuits could be seen as part of a meal, and snacks always fruit or healthy bars?

I wouldn't exclude anything, & food should be enjoyed. I'm sure the family eat healthily anyway, so it's more about how to handle keeping this approach for the whole day. Maybe good health, rather than weight, could be the emphasis.

Sorry for Carl too, ouch!

Lesley, I do hope the week brings better things! xx :)

Oh Lesley I'm so very sorry to read your news :( Such a huge shame for Lauren and she must be feeling so frustrated by it all as well as in a lot of pain, poor girl. Obviously the rest of the family will be worried sick too so not good for any of you! :(

As for suggestions about losing weight, as well as Sheilas suggestions about eating, how about a Wii Fit? I know she would be unable to do some of the activities but having played on one at work there are a huge variety that she could do from the sofa or basic balance games which would keep her occupied for quite a while. Gentle exercise and lots of it might help her shift a few pounds. :?

Carl has a massive bruise on the top of his foot but he says it feels slightly better so he isn't going to the hospital.

Lauren's shoulder is holding up today and we've done plenty of things which she can do........sewing, cooking and card making. We all went to puppy training and she was able to walk Tali to heel as we're part of a small class.

My daughter was another matter.......she was having a bad day today..........feeling helpless as there's nothing she can do to prevent any of these dislocations.........tomorrow's another day :)
