New-Look Omlet Forum

Recommended Posts

I was instantly put off by the board index! With Nosebleed, you could just highlight the section anywhere in the title or subtitle and it would all be hyperlinked to the subforum.

But now, you HAVE to click on the title - not anywhere in the box. And I'm a LAZY creature of habit so will have to persevere with this one

Oh and I agree with the others, to me the serif font looks a bit too large and ungainly in comparison to the sans-serif subtext (or is that because I'm on Linux/Firefox?).

I was like that

I'm beginning to like it now though...you really do get used to it :D

Nice job guys

.... I will stick with it as its going to change anyway, but the fonts on the index page are just driving my eyes crazy they all mingle together .. or is that just my eyes?

I found that at first Cooks, but after a few tweaks from Matt, it's miles better.

... I still think the mods should be orange

- ooh, don't like that you have to click font colour at the top + not have it on the side when posting a message

I couldn't agree more! :D

I had huge problems with the colours and font and my eyes yesterday. Lots of things were changed yesterday and I find it much better but it is less eye friendly than nosebleed I think.

I've just realised how small the user name is under avatars, its not till someone without an avatar posts that you realise how diddy the user name appears

The avatars still keep jumping from the left to the right

Apart from that, still liking it :D

I can't work out the point of the clickable headings for each post :? . It seems to jump down one if you click but that seems a bit superfluous as you would just scroll down.

Oh I like that. It means that if someone's posted something that you want to repeat, you click the heading of the post and it gives you a new url to link to in another thread, without having to say "read xyz thread and it's on the second page fourth post down."

Can do that on the ond one :) ... just put start=X in the link :P

Yep, usernames are tiny

After using it for a couple of minutes, I like it.

I really like the search functionality, so it's now easy to search a particular forum, or within a message. I like the ease of being able to move between pages, and the "jump to..." option. I like the "online" sash.

I also like the PM, email, and website links underneath the usernames.

I'm glad the avatars are back on the left. I don't mind the smileys being on the right when creating a message, it won't take long to get used to that.

Would be good to have the mods in a different colour.

Would be great if the words "The Omlet Forum" in the top left hand corner was hyperlinked back to the board index.

Thanks

Just noticed that when you click on reply there is no cursor automatically in the reply box so you start typing only to find you have somehow scrolled down the page and need to click in the box to start your reply! the old version when you clicked reply had the cursor there ready to receive your intellegent ramblings

Yes I find this annoying and have often already started to write before noticing :?

I think the mods should be in a different colour too.

It looks much better on my Windows XP PC  ! So must be because I was on my Linux netbook

And I just got my knickers in a real twist as I went to SUBMIT this post but accidentally clicked SAVE (have the buttons switched positions or am I having a mad half hour??? ). Then, once I'd found it in my UCP, I couldn't figure out how to submit it . So copied, pasted as a new post, submitted and now I'll go back and delete my draft. Donut!

Just trying it out for the first time really, posting is ok, but I don't like the way the cursor seems to pulse (but perhaps that's just our 'pooter) and generally the colours I think are very hard on the eyes....I have fiddled around with the font size to view, and it seems a bit better....s'pose I'll just have to get used to it. My OH will be pleased if it means I spend less time on here

Whoever designed this site clearly did not read the masses of information about accessibility out there. I'm not just talking about the placing of buttons but the colour differences, the white background, the pale colours.... Just a quick flick through some of the masses of informative websites on this stuff would have helped.

1 in 10 people will have difficulty reading this site because of its new layout and the fact there there is no obvious way to change it. Not everyone knows how to increase the size of their fonts etc to make it more accessible.

I spent 7 years of my life talking about this type of stuff. Clearly it was completely wasted when large sites like Omlet STILL get it so very very very wrong. Shame on you Omlet!

The mod team had it for a couple of days before the rest of you, & along with the Omlet team we put in some very hard work making it as user friendly as possible. It is different, but you do get used to it quickly - I didn't get along with it at all to begin with, but it already feels like home now.

I agree with Cinnamon, Matt has worked very hard to try and keep it running as smoothly as possible and listened to ideas about format changes etc.

I wasn't sure at first, but after having a fiddle around with font size etc, have it all set up to my needs now. Just a case of playing around to get it to suit you :D

There are far more useful buttons than before which should make "accessibility" easier, surely?
