scubababe
Thanks all. Yes it took hours to decorate. Was worth it when I got a text from Ann-Marie saying she loved the cake and it was my best one so far!!
Goosey Lucy
Yummy looking cake Here's my first attempt at a quilt. The colours haven't come out very well, will have to have a play with my camera settings. The brown is quite a deep chocolate, the green is quite limey. It's spread out on a SuperKing bed to give you an idea of the size.
Olly
ooh, lovely! Did you buy a pack of fabric? I would love to do a quilt but not till I've finished the UFOs ...
Plum
Beautiful, I love all the different scale prints they go so well together
Goosey Lucy
Thank you I am very pleased with my first effort. I can't take any credit for the selection of fabrics, they came in a kit but I did decide how to place them. It didn't take too long to do, even for a complete beginner (who has now got a walking foot for her sewing machine as she bought a second kit to make a quilt for her YS )
Purplemaniacs
What a lovely quilt, can't believe you are a beginner It is beautful Chrissie
LolaLayla
At long last I have finished one of my UFO's. It has been on the go for years
Purplemaniacs
Wow The stitches look very complicated, it must have taken a lot of concentration. Chrissie
craftyhunnypie
A lovely piece of knitting that - you should enter that into a show. Fancy stitches always win! I've cut out my 16 squares of fabric all 8 and a half inches square, ready for my first quilt (gulp). It's a picnic blanket out of a book, but I'll have it as a lap quilt or on a chair. If it is good, then I'll make one up as a playmat for my niece! I've also cut out stuff for my inchies (see Lesley's post) & some pieces of fabric for a pin cushion. Plum
Lovely knitting LL. I used to enjoy knitting an aran until the kids protested and wouldn't wear them anymore. Emma can't wait to see your fabrics and work. The start of a great addiction
Sue_F
I've made a purple Kistie bird sat on it's own little blue twig.... Only colours of tissue I had!!! Katy
Plum
Purple and blue is good. I'm sure the twigs in my garden are blue tonight brrrrr. Another 3 babies on the way in my team this year, it's going to be another of those years I better sort my kiddy fabric out.
craftyhunnypie
Plum - don't expect anything of too high of me, they are only large squares! Can manage to sew those together, but after that I might get a bit stuck. Putting the edges, wadding & backing fabric together will be a challenge. Not to mention the quilting. I now know what ' in the ditch quilting' is. Ooo get me! No really I am a total novice at this! I like buying & messing with fabrics, but my fabrics usually just end up as Mors bags. Time I did something a bit more creative with them. I've chose some Clothkits fabric that is bright blue with little flowers & dragonflies on. Then some hot pink with tiny white polkadots on. Where do you get your kiddie fabrics from Plum? My nephew might like a little quilt with Thomas or pirates on. Emma.x
Plum
All over the place every town I go to and all over the internet Here's some Thomas Fabric and Pirates or I get charm packs of kiddies fabrics from Cotton patch or Bramblepatch but that won't link for me at the moment. craftyhunnypie
Thanks Plum, those sites are lethal to the purse! Love the charm packs! I feel an addiction starting here. Just a quick question, what are jelly rolls & layer cakes? Sound yummy, but what are they & how would they be used? Emma.x
Plum
Jelly rolls are lots of strips of fabric about 2" wide and the width of the fabric. Loads from the range. Layer cakes are about 10" squares of each of the fabrics in a range Lots of Recipes here. Don't look!
LolaLayla
A lovely piece of knitting that - you should enter that into a show. Fancy stitches always win! Thank you I don't think the sewing up would be to the standard required. I have seen some really nice items at the local show so think I will just stick to the baking for that (not that I won anything last year ) I would love to try the quilting too. I noticed there is a day course at a local college and wondered if I should go. It makes it so much easier if you can see things being done rather than trying to puzzle it out from a book. Although the internet is great for clips now
craftyhunnypie
Sewed my squares together for the quilt. Now got to sew the strips of squares together to make the quilt shape. That is after I've pressed the seams like a good girl. My 27 year old Singer machine, still going strong. Will sew the strips tomorrow now - as snuggling up by the fire for the night soon. freddie
DD and I have just decouptaged a mirror frame for the downstairs loo!! Great fun, but sticky Looks 200% on it's old self, and cost me £2 for the papers, as the mirror was a skip find!
