Plum
There's going to be some happy family friends who get those. You must have started ages ago. I can't really see how they work. Are they to hang on trees or string or do they stay together?
Egluntyne
Here's a close-up of the first one I made, which is a bit of a prototype, and not the best one. The boxes are opened by pulling (gently!) on the ribbon squares.
Plum
Now I see little boxes. Great idea

Egluntyne
They are stamped. I'd never have the patience (or the skill) to do cross stitch.
snowberry
Here's a crocheted necklace that I made yesterday & today. Disaster struck when the jump rings holding the lengths opened because of the weight of it. I still can't get the blessed things to close & still look neat! Lesley
Snowberry - is that similar to knitting with wire? - I was at a craft fair next to someone who knitted wire and then moulded it. Your necklace looks stunning! Egluntyne - lovely Advent boxes!
Luvachicken
Snowberry, that is very nice crochet. I thought you only used wool to crochet. And Lesley, I forgot in my excitement of posting, to say what a beautiful Christmas pud tea cosy you made. I would love one of those in my kitchen
Plum
crochet with wire. It is beautiful you are very talented. What about instead of jump rings use the rings that overlap, sorry I can't remember the name (like you find on a keyring) but they are stronger. snowberry
Ahh, thank you Plum, split rings? I'll get some tomorrow as I'm not too confident in letting this necklace go to its new home. I'd hate it to break. I only taught myself to crochet 10 days ago wire is certainly the way to go, I initially tried with some of that clear beadalon, but it didn't sit right. I have never been able to sew & don't have a creative bone in my body, but I'm liking this necklace lark
Egluntyne
Wow Snowberry - I hope I get you in the Christmas Swap! The necklace is beautiful.
snowberry
That would be nice Egluntyne. Necklaces are about the only things I can make. I don't think Christian would appreciate a necklace

patsylabrador
I'm currently having a go at knitting socks. I'm using two circular needles which is new to me but nice to do. The sock is huge, it would be enormous on a yeti. I think I've picked the wrong yarn and needles. I've bought some sock yarn now, it was on offer in Germany and cheaper than I've seen here. Sock knitting must be popular there, sock yarn was being sold everywhere. I'm going to persist with the giant socks for practice and see if they'll do as slipper socks. I've already suggested to ES that they would be great as snowboarding socks but he just gave me a funny look.
craftyhunnypie
Xmas stockings - hand knitted! I can't get on with knitting socks, butI'm going to make it my New Years Resolution to learn circular knitting next year! Emma.x
Egluntyne
I made this Christmas table dec last night, from a polystyrene wreath, some pins and some left over Christmassy crafting paper. Before you all reach for a fire extinguisher - it is a LED candle.
Plum
Be far more fun if it was a wax one. It's beautiful Egluntyne, you do have some good ideas
Purplemaniacs
Before you all reach for a fire extinguisher - it is a LED candle. That was my second thought, is that safe paper so close to a candle However my first thought was wow how beautiful it was. You are such a talented crafter Chrissie

craftyhunnypie
Yes, I was thinking they would look good on a snow blanket with little Bambi's & toadstools & a gingerbread house in the middle. They are so very easy to make, but you do need tiny pins for when you get further up the cone. I have seen a lot of variations of putting ribbon on the cones, so will try that next year. Olly
I couldn't post these before Christmas, just in case any of my friends were reading this (unlikely). I always get together with a group of girlfriends before Christmas and we exchange presents, this year I decided to make stockings for everyone. I had to stretch the definition of 'home made' for the contents as I ran out of time, so one person ended up with a jar of honey (home bottled!) and another got a bottle of blackberry vodka. I had huge fun doing it, I'm already planning next year's presents.
