Snow

Recommended Posts

Made it in to work  , did 5 hours and decided it was time to head back home as it was snowing really heavily. it took well over an hour to walk home as the snow was getting deep in places along the lanes.

The temperature has been -6c all day. Another couple of inches of snow  The snow now reaches the top of my wellies as I found out when I went across the grass to the WIR to defrost the Chicken's water this afternoon.

We keep having power cuts, just a few minutes every 15 minutes or so. I have candles and matches at the ready but can't find the torches. I know DS has one with him as he will have to walk home from work tonight but where the rest have gone I just don't know.

DD has another snow day tomorrow, she is very happy.

No more here through the day but more forecast overnight.

The hamlet is in a dip so only a 4 x 4 will get in and out and most of the houses don't have one so hubby and our neighbour, who has just bought a huge four wheel drive Audi :mrgreen: have been helping with the shopping.

Actually I think the Audi is a bit pretentious......... I crave a four wheel drive Mini Cooper S Countryman :D:D

I have really enjoyed reading all about the snow or lack of it - it's amazing the difference from county to county isn't it.

I feel for all those of you who have to get to work - and walking for an hour for some of you. Makes me feel glad to be retired.

We had lots of snow overnight on Thursday and it was deep here on Friday - and I almost cancelled going on our weekend away - but as I hadn't seen my friend for 21 years - there was no way I wouldn't attempt the journey.

Complaining bitterly (under his breath) husband loaded the boot with my 'emergency' rations, blankets, food, bars of chocolate, drink, torch etc in case we got stuck en-route.

When we got out of Norfolk, the sun was shining, the roads were dry and we were getting some funny looks in our snow covered car!

When we came home yesterday it was as though we were in a different country when we got to Norfolk again - it wasn't gradual, it was as though someone had drawn a line - this part of the road dry and sunny - then cross the line and lots of snow :?

Hasn't stopped snowing all day - deeper and deeper. I am so very glad that I extended the cube run with two extra sections - the bantams are in their element in their very own poly tunnel!

Ah yes - I had that when I first got the cube, and I still have to leave plant pots in there; I suppose we can't blame them for wanting to snuggle down. One day a hen got wedged in between the pots and couldn't get out without some human assistance

I saw the snow on the lunchtime news, with people saying they hadn't know snow this bad in 30 years/since 1963 - its the early nature of it. I'm not sure I'd be as dedicated as some of you struggling to work, I take my hat off (oh no I don't, too cold) to you

I've been reading this thread with interest for the last few days. Even though it's been well below freezing here, we've had no more snow since the first lot of the winter on Saturday, although the forecast is for some tonight. Thankfully I've got the week off work to decorate :D

I'm shocked at some of your lovely pics, with how much snow you have, yet are continuing on as well as possible with daily life

Stay safe everyone, and I hope it gets a few degrees warmer quickly, for a few weeks anyway, I wouldn't say no to a white Christmas 8)

We've just come in from a lovely walk in the park which is all lit up with Christmas lights. Very pretty with more big snowflakes coming down. The kids have had a fabulous time in the snow, it's up to their knees!!! I can't believe there is so much of it here in Northumberland. It's the worst I've ever seen!!!

This morning we had tears from 7yr old DD2 as her school was open and DD1 and DS's schools were closed. Try explaining why hers was the ONLY school in Northumberland open today was tricky. Unfortunately it's the one I work at to so i had to teach knowing every other teacher was having a duvet day!! :(

As Lesley has said, it has looked like snow here all day, but none yet. Much milder too - just below freezing now.

Dilly, lovely to hear from you, I was reading about snow in Norfolk and was going to email or ring you to see if you're OK. I know what you mean - do you remember that we had the same a few years back with the difference between the house near the coast and yours inland? Rosie sends her love to youxxx

The cold has been something else today, we couldn't get the offices warm, we are in a big od regency building with high ceilings and draughts everywhere. Even with the woodburner going full pelt and the heating on we haven't been able to get properly warm this evening at home either :(

We seen to be on the edge of the snow warnings for the next few days, we shall see what happens.
