Mercedes55
It would have to be a Salmon Favorelle for me. Till we got ours I had never even heard of them. However out of all of our pure breeds she is the friendliest and prettiest of them all and looks more like an eagle than a hen. She has such a lovely disposition and is so funny to watch waddling along with her feathery feet
Stella14
I must say my hens' poo doesn't smell very much at all - really! I have them on WW mash with Bokashi. They say that practically removes the smell and its true! As for which chicken. I love our Black Rock. They are generally said to be very hardy and easy to get along with, so I'd always want one I think. She is such a character and although she is more confident and interactive than our other girls, if I had to choose just one, I think it would be a Buff Orpington. They are said to be confident, friendly and docile as a breed and our Henrietta shows she will be just that, with a little more time. Redwing
Wyandotte bantams for me, they are brilliant characters, are a lovely farmyard chicken shape, are hardy, calm and placid (usually..)
Space Chick
Oooooooh tough call I think I'd say Cream Legbar, I Love a top knot and am a sucker for blue eggs
Eggasperated
I love my Gold Star (hybrid ginger girl) Jo, so friendly, regular eggs, no trouble in herself (although sometimes gets picked on) and loves a cuddle .
Calamity Jane
As my three Sussex Lights are the very first chucks I have ever owned - I would have to say Sussex Light !!!! All the people on this site seem to have such lovely stories about their chucks - it would appear that chickens are like anything else.... some nice... some horrid !! Plum
The breed I haven't got. Always wanting another However, pinned down to one it would be Gingernut ranger, freeloader but friendly, bossy, loveable, bully, greedy, selfish, comical, a real character and from what others say theirs are the same. Charlie7
The same as Tasha - Bantam Wyandottes. They are cute, friendly and lay tasty eggs all year around. Excellent mothers I have heard, didn't experience it YET. Can't say anything negative actually, they are just perfect.

Laura & CTB
Cochins - I have two and they are huge bundles of fluffy feathers that love their cuddles - great hand warmers in winter
Aunty e
Black Rock - we don't have one at the moment, but we adored Maggie and she was the BEST chicken. Friendly, laid every day practically until the fox got her at the age of four, kept the other chooks in line and always went to bed when I told her to. jellykelly
I'd go with my cochins too. Batty, a little simple but funny and full of silly charm!
Margalot
A Brahma, big, cuddly, freindly, docile, feathery feet, lovely frown, not big foragers, quiet, (except for our cockerel), brave (will stand up to our terrier) so many feathers, , so inquisitive completely biased opinion though! (even though i havent had a single egg yet!! ) Michelle
bevmatt
It would have to be my Sablepoots - I just adore them. They are so friendly will talk to you and lay like little troopers - ok so their eggs are small - just don't care I just eat twice the quantity! (more yolk than white in the small eggs - extra tasty)
meezers
What sort of question is that? ( apart from an impossible one ? ) my first answer was silkie, but then I do love my Light Sussex, but I think I might have to choose Salmon Faverolles. It would be one of those three anyway, and that's as close to 'one' as I can get
migsy
Just far too many to choose from! Mine are all different and I love them for different reasons but I do fancy an Araucana because it has an unusual shape and it lays blue eggs. I fancy lots of others too - maybe an orpington because they are so big...., then again....
Chortle Chook
Only allowed one? Now what sort of Omleteer can ever stop at one? I love my Silkies and my tiny Frizzle, Daisy is very sweet but I would one day really like a big hen (or two, or three, or four or more). A typical farm yard hen like a Gingernut Ranger or a Bluebell really appeals as does a Scotts Dumby and an Australorp for their gentleness and perhaps an Orpington for sheer cuddleability. Alice is the same - I just don't like the way she goes about it I must say our Harriet is just self assured and the others don't challenge her, so it all runs very nicely. migsy
My Black Rock, Beakers, is top chook too and the best layer.
