stupidly upset today

Recommended Posts

I cook for a Monday lunch club for over 60s, and most weeks I get it right. We have no funding, just the £2 that the members members pay each session. I had a lot of carrots, so on a whim this morning I made 2 big pots of wholesome vegetable soup. It honestly was very nice, & as we can usually only afford economy supermarket soup, I thought it would be a treat.

I was so wrong, they were very nasty, some wouldn't even try it & one lady gave me a lecture on how horrible it was. I was close to tears, thank goodness one of my sons was helping me because I think I would have walked out. He kept me sane.

My thoughts on 'big society' aren't very positive at the moment.

That is so ungrateful!

Ask them for suggestions next time anyone criticises the dishes! What a cheek! Ask them to show you how it should be done in future? Also that you would like them to help in the kitchen to improve the dishes(if they can do better)!

Dont worry..perhaps thats why they attend the club as no one else would have them round for dinner!

and we tell our kids to eat carrots..... what an example these "toddlers " are setting . Miserable old bats.

I thought 60 was the new 30 anyway... why aren't they still out to work, like our esteemed leadre wants us all to be

I'd have let it be dripping off his/her crimplene top.

oh patsy, that's horrible, how ungrateful! and how rude! I'd have chucked it over them, which wouldnt have been at all constructive, but potentially satisfying in the short term. please dont let it put you off though, maybe you could find a nicer group where they might appreciate your efforts?

You are producing a tasty and wholesome meal on a meagre budget; surely they remember the days after the war when you used your imagination to feed the family. If they want Tesco finest then give them that, but it'll be a meagre meal spread over 10 people!

wow

and they say some teenagers are horrible...

I dont know how i would have responded... maybe asking them to make a better soup next time, or wait until they all get there next week and leave them a pile of veg and a pot - let them make it themselves

you dont deserve that rubbish, you obviously work very hard...ungrateful so-and-so's

((hugs))

It is not an age thing, horrible people are simply that. Young horrible people turn into old horrible people, thankfully the opposite is also true, and there are exceptions in both cases.

(no I don't mean that old horrible people turn into young horrible people) :D

Patsy, they really should hang their heads in shame for treating you so badly. :shameonu:

Anyway, chin up, and load up on chillies for next time :lol:

Kev.

I would be tempted to tell them to stuff it and get someone else to cook for them in future - I am sure your talents could be used where they are appreciated. I found some old folk and not all I hasten to add before I am lynched rude and very impolite. Big hug

How rude  They were lucky not to be wearing the soup with comments like that :shameonu: Were any of them nice about it or did the minority spoil it? It is was a minority I would continue for the sake of the majority. If they were all the same I would walk and find someone more worthy of your hard work.

That's just awful! I can imagine the same people would moan like anything about having tinned soup (or about anything you might give them). I would suggest that if they don't think they're getting their £2 worth they should beetle off and try to get a better deal elsewhere. Sending you hugs!

I would go in and tell them that as their standards must be much higher than you can achieve they need to find another mug to cook for them and promptly walk out. Leave them hungry. There are plenty of other voluntary projects out there. What about battery hen rescue. The girls may not appear to appreiciate you but they wont talk back.:lol::lol: They would hate me as I would only cook vegeterian food.

How horrible for you, no wonder you're upset. I think with some old people, they live very lonely lives and have no-one to moan at so you probably were just a 'handy' person for them to whinge at. They're probably set in their ways too so doing something 'different' might have given them a bit of a wobble. You would think though that they would have appreciated a proper 'home cooked' meal.

Sending you a big (((hug))) for being a kind and caring person who volunteers. You deserve a

What a bunch of ungrateful ratbags  (with due apologies to any that were actually pleasant and appreciative). Wish someone'd come along and cook me proper veg soup with real veg in it for £2! I'd say give it another go and, if you're still not happy, find a voluntary project where your energies are supported and appreciated. Ne illegitium carborundum (I'm bearing in mind this is a family site  )

They certainly do talk back and loudly too, but they're gorgeous little bundles of feathery mischief that live life to the full - maybe give them a go :D
