curse of the chickens....

Recommended Posts

First...record breaking 80" of snowfall which made for a miserable first winter.

Then...a tornado went close by

And then...a small earthquake

Now....a category 2 hurricane where two predicted paths put it less than 10miles from my house

Up until last October (when the girls arrived) life in Boston was pretty normal and now it's more like a disaster movie promo. I'm expecting an alien invasion next!:lol::lol:

But seriously - I'm guessing I should move the girls into the basement when the storm hits.

Our lovely WIR was never designed to be hurricane proof :(

My family & friends are in/near Toronto. They felt the earthquake and the recent storms - in fact one friend and her husband were on a motorcycle when a tornado touched down, lifted them up and dumped them - thankfully - on some nearby grass. They both got up, dusted themselves off and got back on the still-functioning motorcycle.:shock: Crazy! It was an F3 tornado - strongest in years - but I guess they just caught the edge.

Anyway, keep yourself & yours (chooks included) safe and well in the next round of storms...

Im glad we got out of America when we did, all the things have been happening while we've been away (riots in london, and earthquakes in the US). although we were in the storms in SD on the 11th, and the earthquake in Pierre, SD was a day before we went there.

The last thing you want is your chickens to be blown away by a hurricane, so I would put them in the basement if I were you!

Oh my....my cousin lived in Sherborne (she called it Sheburbonne) for a while...I really love Boston and the environs..all those wonderful Rhodedendrons ...and pretty churches...stay safe on Sunday, will be thinking of you, and sending positive vibes for the predicted storm not to come on shore at all....x

I'm in Bedford about 15miles NW of the city. The town just declared a state of emergency which gives them the legal power to order evacuations or close the roads.

We're battening down the hatches...I'm pretty sure we'll be okay but we're likely to lose power at some point this weekend. I have all things re-charging and tons of batteries to power torches and lanterns.

And I gave the girls lots of free-ranging time today to prepare them for the lockdown :)

I'm up early this morning (chicken-related!!) and caught Sky News from the US.... it certainly sounds as if they are planning for every eventuality, but they still seemed to be saying Irene would hit with hurricane force rather than abating to a tropical storm.

fingers crossed, hope you can get everything you need before you batten down the hatches, and stay safe.
