Chickabee
I recently contacted a well known on line supermarket with a query about my shopping. I really wasn't complaining, but feel like I should now. This is one of the sentences from their emailed response - I am not entirely sure what has happened hear, but to be safe I will have our Website Development team look at it, just to be sure that there is something wrong with our App. Am I being picky? Surely anyone writing on behalf of a company should know their here's from there hears. Also I'm sure their website development team will be thrilled that there is something wrong with their app
mullethunter
That would have driven me mad - there's absolutely no way I could not respond to an email so badly written as that. I am often told I'm overly pedantic though
Chickabee
I thought it was just me.
sadietoo
Grrrrrr! Did they go on to say "please do not hesitate to contact myself" (bangs head on wall with anguished cry) I probably should get out more.......
Chickabee
No, but this is another example - Having investigate this on your behalf I can see that 2 Menu from Waitrose for 2 Piri Piri Chickens and 2 Garlic Ciabattas were added to your order at 18:46 on 16/09/14. chickencam
I hate poor use of our language, my SIL uses your instead of you're, there instead of their etc and she has a degree, I don't, and it irritates me so much.
Cat tails
I contacted my university with a problem and kept getting replies with sentences like: don't worry.! it all will be alright.!! No capitals... And exclamation marks were you really don't need them... Awkward.
The Dogmother
Another pedant here I spent yesterday evening sitting through a talk by R's sixth form head, whilst mentally correcting her grammar. I know I shouldn't and it's probably a form of s"Ooops, word censored!"bery or somesuch, but it does irritate me.
soapdragon
Its a slippery slope, as far as I am concerned!!!! Our language is rich and varied with thousands of wonderful words....and they are all user friendly and, even better, free! My current bugbear is that mid day meals have been introduced at the boys primary (in line with the Gov's recent dictat!) and its driving me nuts because they are constantly referred to as school dinners. Well, call me a pedant but I thought dinner was an evening meal I am so used to correcting the boys over it that I corrected the Head Teacher during a conversation yesterday without even missing a beat......I was a little embarrassed but, interestingly, she did admit that that was probably correct and apologised
Chickendoodle
It would have irritate me as well. I even have to use correct grammar and punctuation in texts

Chickendoodle
Oh gosh just realised I didn't check my post. It should have read "irritated" not "irritate". So sorry fellow pedants
gavclojak
Guilty as charged, I recently returned an email to NHS London asking if they would bear me in mind for something or other and spelt it bare....highly embarrassing, a Freudian slip maybe:)
Bramble
Am I the only one who thinks texting is to blame for this kind of slip? I used to be really good at English/Grammar/Spelling/Punctuation, but with the advent of texting, I have to think SOOO much more about it (or maybe it's just my age?) We had an email from a colleague about a missing item this morning, she had written " ... if anyone has it, please may you return it" - am I the only one who thinks there's something wrong with that? Beantree
Presume the 'there' instead of 'their', in your original post was deliberate Chickabee? To be fair, sometimes the spellchecker picks up on a missed letter and fills in the wrong word.
PixieDust
I am generally a spelling and grammar pedant. However, if I am using my phone quickly, mistakes do happen with the auto correct.

Cinnamon
Hate, hate, hate text speak in all it forms, to the point where if I have a response to a Freegle item saying something like 'Where do u live, so I can pk it up pls Hun', no longer gets a response from me. I cannot abide being called 'Hun'! Just had an eBay message saying 'You cant pick it up as its been shipped from another house tomorrow' AARRGGHH! Now, I am not perfect, I know this, but I hate sloppiness. Edited September 19, 2014 by Guest
kinsk
The their, your etc. always riles me a bit. Although we always had school dinners. A group of us had this conversation a few weeks ago. Breakfast was agreed upon. We all now call it lunch for the midday meal. Then for the evening meal we have always called it tea, but if we go out we go out for dinner, then some called it supper. To me supper was something you had with your milk before you went to bed, not your evening meal. It was always school dinners though. I cannot abide text speak and still use punctuation. Chickabee
I also love spoonerisms, but I am carefull, because some people don't realise they're doing it. Edited September 19, 2014 by Guest
Cat tails
I'm not an English native speaker and spelling is my achilles heel. (Had to google that to see I got it right... ) I normally see when a word is spelled incorrectly, but coming up with the correct spelling myself is the hardest part. I did my Cambridge Proficiency Exam this year and almost didn't get A level because of my writing. Because of that I think I sometimes feel I need to overcompensate and always get my spelling right... Then and than still can get me confused!
