The Dogmother
Good grief, those gales last night!!!! Thankfully we didn't have any rain, but the wind was thrashing about and woke me up several times. Still not enough, though, to close my bedroom window
soapdragon
Bright sunshine but VERY breezy this morning.........like DM, lots of big gusts last night and a few branches down this morning. Hope the sunshine continues though!
AndyRoo
It was horrendous here in Bristol. I've had to invest in new tarpaulins today because ours were ripped to shreds last night! The wind was actually so strong the wind had snapped several bungee cords!
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear about yer tarps Andy We've had alternating gales, sunshine, hail and torrential rain today. I was WFH today, so managed to take a break and mow the grass before it rained, now looking ofr some sunshine to get the hounds out.
AndyRoo
Sorry to hear about yer tarps Andy We've had alternating gales, sunshine, hail and torrential rain today. I was WFH today, so managed to take a break and mow the grass before it rained, now looking ofr some sunshine to get the hounds out. It's been raining moderately for the last few days, but the wind last night was horrendous! I swear at one point, about 3am (still awake because of my insomnia!) that a small tornado moved down our street. There was a whistling noise a bit like a kettle - and then suddenly all the trees were swaying and branches were falling down; wheelie bins got tossed around in the streets and blown over, and it was strong enough for a few minutes that I could see my car rocking slightly and the street lamp was wobbling far more than I thought would have been safe! It only lasted for a few minutes, but I am willing to bet that's when the tarps got shredded! I've ordered some more so Rich and I will be doing battle with the run again this weekend! The Dogmother
There was something similar a few years back, in the park at the bottom of my road. A night like last night, could hear lots of crashing, and when i went down in the morning it was as if a giant had strode across the park uprooting trees and pulling branches off others. All very localised too.
The Dogmother
Brrrrr... just 4deg this morning!
soapdragon
But so lovely once the sun had done its stuff Bright blue skies and really quite warm.....a bonus at this changeable time of year so hope it lasts the weekend (what are the chances of THAT )
The Dogmother
It's supposed to be rather warm this weekend We had some lovely clear skies and sunshine until late morning, when it started to cloud over. Drizzling now - just got the grass cut in time!
Luvachicken
Was only 4 deg here too but turned out to be a lovely day. It is meant to be nice for the weekend too
Blackrocksrock
Sounds cold at home - currently in Indiana USA. And 33 degrees outside - bit hot to sit out!
soapdragon
OH said that when he drove off at 5.50am it was 3 degrees...have visions of him whistling 'When Will I See You Again' all the way! Forecast good for the next few days; I can forgive a chilly morning and evening if the middle bit is warm and sunny!
The Dogmother
I am up in Edinburgh, visiting Madam at uni for a few days; been pretty lucky so far with the weather, but tonight, those storms have really blown in, and the Travelodge I am staying in is being blasted by gale force winds and rain. Pretty dramatic! I was going to venture down to her flat for supper and an evening with the youngsters, but I have decided to give it a miss and stay in with Strictly! Valkyrie
Ah - this is the former hurricane Lee. Ex hurricane Marie is waiting in the wings and approaching Ireland. We will have the joys of that tomorrow. Anyone seen that nice er I mean nasty little swirly thing just off the north of Ireland and Scotland? That's been hanging around for a while now. No wonder the harlequins started marching for cover.
Luvachicken
Oh well, at least any wind might finally blow off the remaining acorns. Going to be nice on Tuesday
soapdragon
Lovely here in South Oxfordshire today....def cool at the beginning/end of the day though with a real nip - very autumnal. Getting darker noticeably earlier too - NOT looking forward to the clock change at the end of the month
Luvachicken
A bit chilly walking to work this morning but it has been a beautiful day all day. Just starting to cloud over a bit now
The Dogmother
Really warm and muggy here today. So unseasonal, but I see that it's all going Pete Tong early next week - the forthcoming storm, which had been described as 'losing power' has just been upgraded again... the south west will need to batten down the hatches! soapdragon
The forecasters seem to keep changing their minds....first its going to hit hard, then actually it will just be 'up North' then again we may get some residue blowing in! Have just checked and the latest RAF Benson forecast local to us is for 21 degrees and a stiff breeze - I'll take that! However, probably a case of wait and see! The Dogmother
After a really ropy start - muggy, drizzle and low clouds, nearly dark at 8am - it is now lovely - balmy 19deg, warm breeze and perfick
soapdragon
Sad to see all the wizened blackberries in the hedgerows but the sloes round here look absolutely amazing - I always thought that, like parsnips and sprouts, they should be left until they had been frosted to make them sweeter but am beginning to wonder if they will last that long! At least the small creatures will have a good harvest to set them up for the winter!
sjp
today started off damp and misty then turned really muggy or not muggy for most of the morning then a bit windy for a short while then We got a really pleasant sunny Autumn afternoon and early evening spent all afternoon talking about fruit and veg at a Harvest event
mullethunter
Been weird today. Quite muggy despite the wind with lots of low cloud. Might be a bit windy tomorrow I think - hope my friends in west Cork will be ok.
The Dogmother
Very odd and still here this morning, and dark too. It's now muggy and overcast with a wind starting to get up. Rosie's up in Edinburgh, so have advised her to batten down the hatches as they're due to get it tonight and into the wee hours.
sjp
it's a horrible wired looking sky here. very high thinnish smokey colored cloud cover, the sun is orange through the cloud it reminds me a bit the day we had the total eclipse. only way to described the day is sepia yellow twilight or a post apocalyptic syfy movie type day
