soapdragon
Same down here just south of Oxford. Orangey light and the colour of the sky is sepia; it's really weird and not a little unsettling. Wearing t shirt and shorts as I'm finding the temp quite sticky too - feels like things are very out of kilter...... Just off to see if I can see four horsemen riding up the road
Grandmashazzie
Yes we have that same sky. Very doomladen. Schools all off here. Informed last night at 11.30 by text,so feel sorry for working mums. Winds of 80 mph forecast for our coast so bracing ourselves for power cuts, flasks filled, fire lit so hope all affected stay safe. Purplemaniacs
Yes very strange light here too. Went shooting (archery) this morning. Bit damp first thing but then strangely warm and humid. Sun shone for a short time. Only a light wind but the wind has now got up, its clouded over and there is this very strange light. Best wishes to all those in areas that are more severely affected by the storm. Chrissie.
sjp
Apparently it was a result of this spent hurricane that's blowing through. bringing sand from the Sahara and smoke and debris from the forest fires in Spain and Portugal with it. they were calling it a red sun on the report I read the sky got more sepia just after I posted earlier but know the suns out properly but the winds picking up
The Dogmother
Yes, we've had that here too - went out at lunchtime and needed car lights on as it was so dark. A bit brighter now, but the wind is getting up.

The Dogmother
Yep, I think it's blown all the clouds off. Was very weird at lunchtime - a sort of sepia tint, orange sun and a haze over the whole landscape. We normally see lots of birds near the office, but they all seem to have gone into hiding
Valkyrie
Yup - we said it felt like an eclipse because the birds went all quiet. Took some photos of the sun and the sepia sky. Ophelia is just off Ireland at the moment and they are probably getting a bit of a battering over there. Thankfully by the time she got here she was downgraded. Glad she brought some warmth though. Mars
The tail of the storm is just passing Galway, I can hear it through the window now, it was a windy day with some rain but nothing big, I drove across Galway this evening few trees down a crane down, autumn leaves everywhere, sea weeds filling a road near the sea, but that is it, nothing as big as you see in Sky News. Edited to say: the worst thing is many houses are without power tonight and working mothers have difficulties as schools and creches are closed
The Dogmother
well, that was a bit of a let-down a little blowy here last night, but nothing to get worried about. I have one slipped slate on the roof, but that may have been like that anyway. Hope that everyone is safe.
Grandmashazzie
Yes Mars same up North.Gusts of winds, schools shut, trees down and our electric out for 24 hours so not as bad as predicted. Oh and I have practically fallen out with my sister as she was still staying in her static caravan on coast instead of going to her house. mullethunter
Yesterday morning as Ophelia arrived was one of the oddest October mornings ever. I went outside at just after 7am to take the tarpaulin off the walk in run (to stop he wind ripping it or blowing the whole lot away) and the first thing that hit me was the smell. Really strong smell just like when you get off a plane into the Tarmac in a hot country. And then the heat was her too. It was 19 degrees at 7 in the morning!! Properly odd. Even by the time I walked to work a little over an hour later it had cooled down a couple of degrees and the smell had gone - then it was just a very windy day. I love it when things are different! Cat tails
We had a very orange overcast day today. Apparently caused by the forest fires in Portugal and Ophelia blowing the smoke all across Europe. Monday was positively summery! Was about 24 degrees! Today only 16. The Dogmother
Cooler, wet and dark here this morning. Working from home, so I have the stove lit and it's toasty in here
soapdragon
Where is Brian ? Lovely blue skies and sunshine this morning and, whilst the breeze is fairly stiff, its def not the semi hurricane that was predicted.
The Dogmother
Same here.... slightly disappointed
soapdragon
OOer! Spoke too soon! Have just been for a 3 mile walk round the village perimeter (couldn't face the stepper today!) and nearly got blown away. It appears that Brian has dropped in after all and may, indeed, stay for supper!
The Dogmother
Me too - I took the dogs out and chose to walk round the reservoir as there are less trees there, a squall blew up which produced waves with white crests on the res, and blew stinging rain in under my hood. It was pretty extreme! It is still pretty blowy out there, but the direction of the wind means that I can't really hear it in my house. Purplemaniacs
It has been very windy here this afternoon. Spent the afternoon setting up for our archery Clout which is tomorrow. Archers shoot at a flag that is up to 185m away. Could be an interesting shoot as the wind is forecast to be over 40 mph. Is that what it's measured in? mullethunter
Weather warning here for tomorrow too but for wind. We had a couple of frosts last week but it's been really mild the last couple of days. I think it got to 15 degrees this morning.
The Dogmother
Not heard any weather warnings here, but been sort of under the radar today while visiting my folks. Warm enough here and drizzly.
