Chortle Chook
Simple , straight question - are your chickens pets or livestock? Edited November 29, 2015 by Guest
Hippie Chick
Pets... who lay tasty eggs!
Beantree
Without a doubt they are pets. They all have names and they are very tame. One even comes over to ask for a cuddle and then he falls asleep and snores.
gavclojak
Pets...for me it's all about the ex commercial girls too and I couldn't care less if they never laid another egg. They are such funny, entertaining ,busy, noisy, time wasters And I love every minute of having them, even in the horrible rainy cold winter months
Olly
Garden pets. I don't take a commercial approach - those that are past laying live out their retirement happily - but I don't regard them in the same way as the cat. I won't let them suffer but I wouldn't put a hen through extensive veterinary treatment, and I don't allow them in the house (they're not even allowed on the patio!) My pets are always pets, not humans though. The cat does sleep on the bed, granted, but she eats her meals from a bowl on the ground, not off my plate. Mars
livestock. But well treated livestock. free range 24/7, the door only closes at night with automatic door opener
dancing cloud
Pets here - names, faces, characters, thoroughly spoiled demanding little madams ! Eggs always welcome, but they've been freeloading for over three weeks now and still not been shown the roasting tin !
Ain't Nobody Here
Pets here too . You'll probably not get many folk on here saying they're livestock .
mullethunter
Pets. I never thought I'd take a chicken to the vets but I have!

quickcluck
Pets here too! All have names. The old girls live out a very happy retirement and they do go to the vets! Mostly for end of life care
mollyripkim
Definitely pets here too!
Egluntyne
A cross between the two. They have names and are well looked after. They stay in their own area and never come into the house. They live out their retirement, but It would be a very unusual situation if I were to take them to the vet. However, I never let them suffer. redsunset
Pets......as my poor purse will testify from the last three years! And will probably continue to testify........
Chortle Chook
Mine are pets with names. They get treats and go to the vet but though for the most part they accept me, they are not fond of me and I don't feel about them as I do about my dogs. redsunset
I agree re the dogs......and the cats. Went out on Saturday to buy an extra Christmas wreath for salon in a garden centre. Saw a gorgeous wee ginger kitty with white socks. No point writing the rest. P.s. Forgot the Christmas wreath...

Chickabee
I want to see the new Ginger cat . My girls are pets. Especially Dazzle, she lives in the stable with the cat. They really like each other. I can't let her near the other girls anymore, as since she went broody and hatched the moorhens this year, they've all turned on her. We chat every day and she demands treats. The cat keeps her company and kills the occasional mouse. Poppy (cat) is allowed to come and go, but is always locked in at night
Luvachicken
Definitely pets here One reason I work is so that I can pay the vet. I agree they are not the same as my dear old Daisy but they talk to me, come running to see me and love to have cuddles. Haven't seen the pictures of the kitten yet
redsunset
Lol, knew you lot would get the irony! Go out for an Xmas dec.......and come home with a fur ball, or purr ball in his case! He's a wee darling and the dogs adopted him immediately and the Lhasa washed his wee ears out! He permanently has two wet sticky out patches behind his ears from the mothering! The other cat was a bit bemused but played with him on Sunday. He has decided tassels are evil and busy removing the 'remaining' two from my good cushion on the wing chair. Not a good photo but waiting for photo bucket to upload a ton.
