There's a First Time for Everything!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I took my filthy car through a car wash....not hugely exciting I hear you mutter BUT... at the grand old age of 51 I had never 'driven' a car through a car wash  YS, sitting in the passenger seat, thought it was enourmous fun....esp when the 'yetis' began whirring away - whilst I could only worry about my wing mirrors

However, although this may seem quite banal it did set me thinking...........how many of us have recently ended up with 'firsts' and what were they (if you can share  !)

Camped at our first music festival a couple of weeks ago, only a small one but we saw Reverend and the Makers, Fratellis, Chesney Hawkes, ( who was great fun ), a good new indie band called The Lottery Winners who also really knew how to entertain a crowd and Jason Donovan who didn't and was so bad we went home during his set

 @ the car wash. Yup lots of fun!

Oooh DM that was so 8)8)8)8)

Well done for camping at the gig - poop to Jason Donovan.

I've had a few firsts this year. I did my first mystery quilt which turned out better than I expected. I also did free motion quilting on it and did feathers - another first. It was also the first quilt I've ever completed in less than a year!

I got my new monster truck and I've never driven anything so big - not quite a tank though!

Then at Redders field I slept over in a tent. I know why I never really wanted to do camping ever - and now that's a first and a last all at once!

A lot less exciting than most of you, but I recently had a "first" when I made mushroom sauce - all on my own, with real ingredients and not out of a jar

I know the rest of you are thinking that's nothing special and you've been doing it since you were knee-high, but I never had. I was so impressed with the outcome I've not only made some more, but also made my own version of country french sauce and tomato, mushroom and basil sauce for pasta . Made in batches and bagged up for the freezer in meal sized potions. No more jar sauces in this house :D!

Still have tank and truck envy though

I long to go through a car wash, in a car obv  but my meanie hubby won't take our car into one :( He's worried it will damage it.

My little first is learning to knit, after many years of telling myself, and others that I am rubbish at it. Actually, I seem to be doing ok :D

I would love to have a go at clay pigeon shooting. Not too keen on doing anything that goes at speed or up high though :anxious:

If we all used cat washes there would be a lot of very fluffy moggies out there just like the pink panther when he went through one - think pink powder puff on legs :D

My two recent firsts are swimming off a river beach in rather chilly water and enjoying it, and kayaking. We loved kayaking so much OH wants us to buy one. And talking of shooting, OH had a go on an Olympic biathlon range and scored 5 out of 5, never having shot before.

On the domestic front I have never fried an egg

Never washed a cat but I have washed a guinea pig. Does that count? :)

On the subject of firsts - the other week I ate fish and chips out of the paper while sitting on the beach. Never done that before - amazingly!

It was yummy but the wind kept blowing my hair in my mouth

Last week we did the same. Took middle granddaughter to Old Hunstanton for the day and we had fish and chips on the beach. A first at 52! Normally plate, knife and folk sat at the table type girl :D

Also did clay pigeon shooting for the first time last autumn. The ladies of the archery club took on the gentleman of the club, sadly ladies lost but I thoroughly enjoyed it, would like to do it again.

Living it up then, Willow :wink:8) Sounds lovely  !

This morning I baked bread in our new oven for the first time....totally different to the usual 'isn't it done YET?' as the old oven was so decrepit everything took ages! Will attempt a pear upside down cake tomorrow...never made one before so should be, um, interesting!

It's been a summer of firsts for me, but that's what you get for doing a PhD!

My firsts over the last few weeks:

Helping combine my wheat plots (not at all glamourous, following the 25 year old wintersteiger wearing ear defenders and face mask, collecting seed off each plot into the correctly labelled bag. I was filthy afterwards, and interestingly coloured, with my farmer's tan lines, slight sunburn and general dust and grime!)

Counting tillers in wheat stubble, resulting in me hobbling around work on Thursday, whereby a warm bath and copious amounts of massage oil helped!

Slightly more exciting, I first sat on a road bike the other week, as I am contemplating buying one-that was fun!
