Given Up Smoking

Recommended Posts

I've not had a cigarette since Saturday  and I am feeling great :D

I have been a smoker for 25 years and have tried to give up lots of times. I hated the taste of them, and the smell and always felt embarrised buying them. I never smoked in the house so would stand outside the back door in all weathers for a puff or two often throwing half the thing away because I was cold or wet or both.

Had a nasty feeling moment yesterday when I was really, really, craving a cigarette only to find the patch had fallen off. A quick dash to the chemist to find I have funny skin  (it happens quite a lot I was told). So now I have to wipe my skin with surgical spirit and gently heat the skin with a hairdryer  before putting on a patch so that it sticks and days stuck. If I get a butterfly feeling in my stomach and then start to want a ciggie I am sucking a Dextrose/Lucozade tablet which helps a lot :D

I have a good feeling about this and I can do it :D

My first treat will be to have my eyelashes permed :lol: and tinted. We are not allowed to wear any makeup at work because we work with food, not that I have ever felt the need to rub my face in any of the dishes.

I got my patches on prescription so 2 weeks worth cost me £4. I could have got the whole course at the same time for £4 but chose to take 2 weeks at a time. I have seen adverts on the TV about help from the NHS so I might give them a call.

My best treat is going to be from Andy :D . He is buying me a bicycle for my birthday, an electric bicycle :D My birthday is not until the middle of June so I plan to nag him until he gives in and buys it sooner  I bet he won't say no because then I might get angry  people giving up smoking can get very angry you know

Well done. The urge to have one will keep recurriing but now you've overcome it you will next time. It took me lots of attempts as well but in the end you feel much better and its so stressful finding places to have a chuff and buying them. All that behind you, keep going.:D

Well done! Keep up the good work

I gave up nearly 4 years ago after smoking for about 15 years. It was quite hard for me, but I did it because I broke my ankle, couldn't actually get outside for a ciggie and also read that smoking inhibited the healing of bones. I can't believe it took that for me to give up! I'd lost two grandparents and an uncle to smoking, so it should have been that really. But 4 years on and only every now and then I think about the fact I haven't thought about smoking for months! I can't believe now that I even smoked.

Well done you - I gave up 4 years ago after smoking for dare I say it 33 years - I did it with patches and I needed the ones you keep on all night but I took them off at night if you get my meaning as I did best with them and I gave up with them before the course was finished as I kept forgetting to put one back on in the morning and so I did not need them - I felt better and my wallet was fuller too.

Keep it up and drink loads of water - it was my salvation. I bought cheap bottled water from tesco and still do

Well done! I had to stop smoking when I got pregnant, and found it very easy (as I had some serious motivation!) but I tried a few times before, and just couldn't manage it because I am weak. I did find that the trigger situations for cigarettes (parties, stress and funerals) were all still pretty vile though.

Well done! You can do this. After all, you can decide not to do other things and manage it so you can decide not to smoke and manage it too! :D

I stopped smoking in 2002 after reading the Allen Carr (sp?) book. Even when reading the last page and smoking the last cigarette (you smoke when you read the book!) I wasn't convinced I was really stopping but that was 7 years ago and I don't miss it at all - and that's the absolute truth!

Thanks for your good wishes everyone :D

Hardly thinking about smoking any more :D and not eating so many Dextrose tablets.

I keep having really vivid dreams at night though and normally I can't remember what I have dreamt. This morning I woke up with an annoying tickly cough so I think my airways are clearing.

I stopped last year using Champix and the power of the Omlet forum

The latter is not to be underestimated :D:D:D

Well done and keep plugging away.

It is a nice feeling not having to worry if you will have enough tabs to make it through a night out!

We got a massive wang off telly out the savings too!

Kev.
