Flooding

Recommended Posts

She has posted in the weather thread.

Having seen the floods here in 2007 they were a mere puddle in comparison to Cumbria, they have apparently had a foot of rain this week

I know that there were quite a few people who were out of their homes for over a year in Gloucestershire and surounding counties after the 2007 floods, so I hope that there were some lessons learnt that can help these poor people find a warm dry home for Christmas.

Everyone but the policeman has now been accounted for. Watching the news of the "raging torrent" running through the main road in Cockermouth last night, it's a miracle no-one there died.

We've just been out and about and the extent of the flooding and damage to walls and roads here in the south west of the county is staggering. The water has receeded, as it does quickly here, but there's more rain coming in for the weekend and high tides, so although the worst is over, the fat lady ain't singing just yet.

The pictures look horrific. I truly hope the policeman is found alive, although very glad to hear all the others are accounted for.

It sounds as though the emergency services have done an amazing job. What a wonderful set of people!

It's a lovely part of the world, and trust that all those affected will be able to get back to "life as usual" as soon as possible.

I really feel for the people for Cumbria. I for one am constantly checking out upton upon severn as my MIL was flooded really badly in the 2007 floods as she is on the water front, and was out of her home for six months. Both my MIL and FIl had to be rescued, and my FIL died the day after they moved back in. It is truly horrendous for them all and takes so long to get over.

Water is rising but hopefully little rain today settles the river a bit. They have mobile flood defences however in 2007 they didn't get there on time and were stuck in a massive traffic jam on the M5.

It's terrible; it must be horrific to have to stand by and watch your home flooding - knowing that all the prepartion and sandbags you can lay your hands on aren't going to help when the water gets that deep. And such a tragedy that the policeman lost his life.

I live beside a river, and have been lucky in that whilst the road flooded, the house never has.

I posted this on the weather post. IF the mods would like to edit one or the other, please feel free.

What a shame that somebody has died.

"Policeman killed in the Cockermouth flood. That has really upset me, and I'm not the Police greatest fan. Respect to the man, and condolences to his family.

What makes this seem so sad is that it's been a very sunny and calm day here".
