Flooding

Recommended Posts

Devastating news about that poor policeman, my heart goes out to his family, especially his wife and four children. The pictures I've just seen on the news just look terrible. I hope everyone keeps safe, they're forecasting more rain - thinking of everyone affected

What more can you say.

So sad to hear about the policeman who was just doing his job, such a loss to his family and tomorrow would have been his 45th birthday. Such as waste of a life.

Best wishes to all who live in the affected area.

Chrissie

My step daughter is a copper. We are all so sad for poor PC Bill Barker's family.

The conditions were so severe that no defences could have overcome them. Now is the time to make sure the powers that be move swiftly to help all the people and businesses that are affected, a time for insurance companies to resist the urge to wriggle out of or to protract claims, a time for funds to be found to help those in need.

I feel so sorry for everyone up there :( One poor business owner was in tears last night on the news because of the damage to his restaurant. Those poor shop owners, especially at this time of year when they needed to capture the Christmas trade.

My condolences to the Policeman's family also...terrible tragedy. :(

I've just watched your "skynews" on the web and was shocked to see the amounts of watter flooding into the downtown area of Cumbria. My thoughts and prayers are with all my friends and their families in the UK who are being affected by the flooding as well as the missing poiceman and his family.

I know this is small fry compared to some poor souls.

We have an inch of water on our lowest floor :evil: (Front door, shower, bedroom/study, store room, garage.

Heaven knows where that came from :!: The house is partially built into the hill and we have had lots of rain before with no problems.

Next door has a spring bubbling up through their tarmac drive.

Oh well carpets are up, fan heater on and underfelt drying on the radiators.

The devil will be in sourcing the flood.

Ooh Speckleyhenny. I think what has happened there is that normally the water runs away, but it can't because it's all backed up and the ground is saturated - even up the hillside. That happened here the other summer - there's nowhere for the extra water to go, so it starts bubbling up further up the hill and has to break through the surface. Lots of natural springs in this area, usually unseen and underground. My neighbours seem to have a watercourse going through their gardens - it just never dries out, and we're all at the top of a hill, but it burst out further down the hill. The wierdest thing I've ever seen is a fountain shooting out of the drains, some 1-2ft high just round the corner.

Sending good wishes and hugs and hoping that it gets sorted as soon as possible.

Seems to be a regular little cyclone just north of Ireland.:(

I hope you soon manage to get everything dried out OSH - and find the source. There seems to be no let-up in the rain for the coming week :(

Our ground is at saturation point and the bottom of the drive and the traffic island were flooded yesterday evening. The conservatory roof leaked again yesterday - it only ever does it when we have visitors........my Mum travelled all the way from evil weather in Anglesey just to have our roof leak all over her head

Yes, so many people will be homeless for months to come while their houses are made safe. Travelling to work is bad for many. I have a teacher friend whose 15 minute daily commute to work has suddenly become a ninety mile return journey :(

This shopkeeper's explanation of warnings given seems disturbing too.
