Valkyrie
Whoa Nellie! Some deep stuff there. We had a pair of mythical beasties running down our road this morning . Not sure if they were a couple or just friends . Oh I do hope they make babies! The roads are mainly clear but our cul-de-sac is a treacherous ice rink! We are the forgotten ones. OH wondered about having our own ice hockey team. But at least it is beginning to melt. We went down to Whitchurch today and it's quite foggy after you get through (and I mean get through - deep drifts of Christmas shoppers) Basingstoke. Coming back and the steam was rising off the ponies. We saw some deer bounding across the fields very gracefully too.
Daphne
Ah yes - that reminds me. When we were in the woods the other day we saw lots of prints in the snow. OH said they were reindeer
grracee
We had quite abit last night but it's melting now and raining!! Heres a picture I took whilst walking the dog this morning,
Patricia W
We now have torrential rain and the chicken area has become the Somme. No doubt it will now freeze and we'll have a chicken skating rink! Roll on summer....
The Dogmother
Lovely photos Paola; I can't get over how the children are growing! Well, the snow only lasted an hour, by morning it was starting to thaw. +3deg now and much milder. The snow has mostly gone and is replaced by traditional Banburyshire red mud (Karen will know what I mean) most of which was attached to Ruby after we went on a long walk this afternoon Cleaned hound now lying by the stove with only her nose showing from under the blanket Phil still has some snow high in the Chilterns, but the road is a lot better and he's hopeful of making it over here later. Valkyrie
Went for a short drive this afternoon too - some fields are completely clear of snow whereas others are either covered or have a smattering. All next to each other, so it's not as if further down the road we saw something different! Still some snow left here and the ice rink is now a slush rink - not nice if it freezes over. Unbelievable the amount of inconsiderate drivers who have turned the road into a single lane without even a thought to other people who cannot see over the hills or once you are committed there is no way of pulling in on either side to get out of each other's way. Some still have snow all over them so haven't been used. If they weren't going to use their cars why not leave it in their own driveways instead of creating hazards for the rest of us. Bah humbug big time. It does feel incredibly mild outside. We had a bit of rain but very light and not the torrential downpours that we were told yesterday. Egluntyne
Thawing quite quickly here today. Massive avalanches of snow crashed off the roof earlier. Raining now. I hope it doesn't freeze over.
Blackrocksrock
Gorgeous photos (but not such nice snowdrifts ). My girls got their first taste of freedom for a week. They appear to be attempting to eat the snow to get at the grass . Love this - mine just wont come out yet its too deep and they have been moulting bless them ! - its cold! Felt so bad as not been able to get in to clean them out but managed to day to give them a good clean out but not washed out as too much snow lying about = tree about to come down over the eglu = Hubby will have to remove it after the snow - scots pine and its lying at a 45 degree angle and doubt it will bounce back up when the snow comes off it! Ain't Nobody Here
Took the car out for the first time in a week. All roads are single lane (even main roads) due to the massive piles of snow in the gutters/pavements. Traffic builds up behind buses stopping. Side roads are single lane but with no passing places so cars meeting each other have a real job getting past each other. And if you get to your destination, you'll be lucky if you can park as there's mountains of snow where you would normally park . Couldn't visit Dad in the nursing home as their car park is impassable and the road was so full of cars we couldn't park there . I'll not be taking it out again in a hurry . Charlottechicken
Wow, I can't believe some of those snow pics, hope those of you with loads get a thaw soon! Most of the snow here has now melted, there's still a lot of ice on the canal, it must have been really thick

Ain't Nobody Here
I saw that . Worse places to be stranded . We've had JCBs and lorries digging and clearing our estate today (category 2? roads as there's a school there). There are hundreds of 4ft high mounds of snow but hopefully they will all be taken away eventually .
Plum
I dug quite a lot of the road outside our house yesterday but too frozen today and ice is 3 ins thick. Hope I can drive on it. Send those JCBs down my road ANH. Everywhere else around is down to tarmac
coco
Snow has all gone but we have an ice rink outside instead. One of the choooks flew out of the house this morning and slid down the run. The cat has slipped over as have all three dogs. Dogs really need a walk but as I haven't got spikes on my soles we'll have to settle for chasing a ball up and down stairs for a bit. Ain't Nobody Here
My retired (but very fit) neighbour spent about 3 hours clearing his pavement this afternoon. Almost as soon as he'd gone indoors mini diggers appeared and started clearing everyone else's (including ours) pavements. Poor guy . The Dogmother
WE had a foggy start today, but the sun soon came through and it's been a lovely, if cold, day. I doubt that the temp has got above freezing all day and after the mild night on Saturday, I am back to bringing the hens' water in at night. Valkyrie
Nearly gone, just a few piles here and there mainly where it was shovelled to. Beautiful day and I took the opportunity to clean the cube. The girls were all sitting on a bench sunbathing - the pekins and the maran on the back rest with the other big girls and the silkie on the seat. Seagazer
We've still got snow and ice on the roads and pavements but it is going. Last night we had fog and it got very cold. Hopefully it will thaw a lot more today.
Ain't Nobody Here
More snow forecast here . Nothing yet though. Off to work now (on foot/bus) for the first time in a week! Pupils still off though.

Patricia W
I've just driven between Abingdon and Reading. No snow, but very very heavy frost in low lying patches making the trees look as though they are covered in snow. It was - 3 all the way. I'm aiming to head off home about 3ish as it's forecast to be even colder tonight
The Dogmother
-3.6 here this morning and icy as Tricia says. The fog lifted, only to return with snow we've had a light sprinkling and everything is white again... now I know I was right to leave the chooks in the run for the day! Phil is taking his folks to the Christmas market in Birmingham today.
