Redundancy...*Update page 3*

Recommended Posts

I had a similar situation to you - made redundant from the company I'd worked for for 16 years, since I was 19. It was awful for a while and took some recovering from but everything worked out ok in the end and I found another, better job easily when I dusted myself off and got going again. It was a much bigger shock emotionally than I'd ever expected - so you have my sympathy!

Good luck for Thursday, knock em dead!

My situation was different, being older and having been in a very good job for a long time, I welcomed a chance to take a change of direction with my life. I did some temping whilst making plans, and was offered a permanent post through the temp job - but turned it down! I had had enough of working indoors (I was a PA). I looked around and asked myself what I would like to do, I phoned an organisation that I thought I would enjoy working for, got an interview the same day (they were recruiting for the season) and got the offer of a job 2 days later. I am a Tour guide and absolutely love my job, I miss being warm sometimes, working outside in Feb can be challenging, but the summer sunshine is a bonus! I meet people from all over the world and learn something new every day! I have made true friends - not just colleagues. I've been there 6 years and will probably stay till I retire - and beyond! Our oldest guide is 85 and still works part-time!

One door closes so that another can open!

I hope you find something you love! If you end up taking a job "to pay the bills" - keep looking with an open mind to finding something that you'll love doing! We spend too long at work - so try and find something you'll enjoy!

....and no! I wasn't always so positive, I had days/weeks where I had my own little raincloud over me all the time! But they've gone now! :D
