Rosie announced that she wanted to die her hair green  I have tried to explain to her that she will look like a turnip, but hey, what do I know? She forgets that I was once an art student with orange stripes in my hair...

I said that she could have it green so long as I did it as i didn't want my bathroom irredeemably green... guess what? She looks like a turnip!:roll:

My YD currently has reddish purple hair  she first dyed it purple which didn't take on the ends so she added a red on top. They are only temporary dyes and Otis washing out and she now looks like a pink haired person who is going grey

She is a lovely natural blond and her hair had been beautifully bleached by the sun, however, I decided that there were worse things that she could do and that it was better to let her get it out of her system. I would have probably done the same at her age if I had had the resources and parental permission. I have explained how proud she will be of her blond hair when she is older.

Ditto. Rosie's is dark blonde/honey brown and normally is lovely. I did the same, but was older at the time.

That's a really cool photo Patsylab... he really looks like he's enjoying himself.

Just been given some Alpaca sausages at work; we had one from the herd slaughtered last week, and made into sausages. I am told that the meat is lean like venison but a bit drier, so the sausages have a wee bit of lamb fat in them to make them nice and moist.... will report back on the flavour/texture.

I caught something or other on TV the other day made of alpaca meat - it seems to be all the rage :D I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Talking of hearing....we are living in a hamlet of 7 houses with 5 residents (2 are us  ). We are in a natural amphitheatre of hills and trees. The nearest village is about 1km away with about 100 houses and a bar and nothing else. It has its festa this weekend. 99% of the population are retired. Last nights party started at 11pm and ended this morning about 7am. Apparently it was pumping at 50,000w  I've just put AJuff's Delish lemon loaf (see All Things Nice 8) in the oven. I opened the kitchen window from which a fortnight ago I watched a massive and rather scary forest fire burn. I could hear Nirvana 8) as a cover band practise for later tonight. Nirvana at full welly in the middle of nowhere 8)8)8)8) (Unless you don't like Nirvana of course  )

Portugal is a truly surprising country :D

Just had the most bizarre day... bear with me as it's very late.

It's our anniversary today - 11 years of 'togetherness apart' and we decided to go down to Bristol to the Balloon Fiesta; not too bad, a two hour drive and a lovely day out... that's where it ended really.....

The event was so over-subscribed (they estimated 250,000 people there on Saturday alone) that we got held up in a two hour tailback on the M5  got there eventually, the event was wonderful if very crowded. It started to rain as we left but we were making good time queueing to the exit when we were flagged down by 3 young far eastern lasses; very naive, sweet and rather distressed, they had got parted from their lift back to London, and with only one (dead) mobile between them they couldn't get in touch with them, spoke very little English themselves and were trying to get to the main train station in Bristol to get a train back to London.

Bless them, they were soaking wet, wearing summer clothes and very apologetic. We ended up charging their phone in our car as we drove them to the station;they had missed the last train, so I left them with a lovely WPC who was sorting them out with a taxi-share (with 4 other foreign girls) back to London... have only just got back ourselves *Yawns* you couldn't make it up, but we won't forget that day in a hurry!

My ED was there yesterday too, said that the rain started just as the fireworks finished and she had a 3 mile walk back to her flat.

We went down to Bristol today to move some larger items into her flat and called into Cribbs Causeway n the way back, glad we didn't do it yesterday if the traffic was bad.

Sounds like you were good Samaritans. Happy together anniversary. :D

Lovely story - they will go away with thoughts that the British are a nice kind friendly race and most are. Sensible of them to pick a car with a lady in it.

Had a difficult w/e - YS 12 had a friend round. Hes (the friend) is an angry young man - parents separated and mum engaged to marry his dads best mate. he came for a sleepover and kept saying he wanted to go home. I told him no as I think mum had made her own arrangements last night and OH took him home this am when he threw another wobbly. He upset my son whose full of angst and puberty. I told his mum they had had words which they had. i think she knows. I don't know how to deal with this. My sons hard work and struggles with friendships.Any advice gratefully recieved.

I wouldn't worry too much about the friendship thing. My DS has not had close friends, he is happy in his own company as am I. He has relaxed and become more confident as he has got older. I have not done much of the sleepover thing, because my home is my castle, only birthdays etc. Has he got siblings that he is close too? My DS is middle child between two sisters both of whom he gets on well with. He will make a few real friends given time, I think that friendship difficulties early on often mean that they are just more discerning than others.

If he has a settled loving family he will be fine. I really feel for children like your DS's friend, a loving family is key to them feeling secure.

I had a wonderful evening at the beach with five girl friends. We eventually found somewhere that sold take away fish and chips - how hard should it be to do that by the seaside? - and sat on Allum Chine beach where we had prossecco to wash it down. We had a paddle on the sea which at 9pm was surprisingly warm! Then sat on our camping chairs, with blankets and got a bit tipsy  A large family were having a party at one of the beach huts and decided to let off a few fireworks  which was a little hairy at one point. Only sad point was speaking to my husband who had just found his grandmother died earlier in the day at the age of 93 :( Such a wonderful lady who will be very much missed. So bitter sweet memories from last night.
