We have our puppy now.

She is doing really well. The first night she cried a bit when she was in her crate. She had a hot water bottle, her mum's blanket and a familiar toy but last night she was totally quiet. She went to bed about midnight and did not wake until about 6 and she was dry!!! I cannot believe this will last but since she came here she has only had one accident in the house and that was because I did not know the sign that she was looking for a place to poo! I have been watching her like a hawk though and as soon as she gets up from a sleep or after eating we go out to play and she does what she needs to do. The weather has been ideal since we got her so we can comfortably spend as long as need be to ensure she does her business outside. She has had her first injection and the vet said to get her socialised as much as possible without putting her down. So she has been out and about in a shoulder bag :D She has been exposed to traffic noise, seagulls etc etc and lots of people have spoken to her. She did not wee in the bag or in the crate in the car but waited until we got home and I took her out to the garden. Nothing seems to bother her but she really loves company so I will need to make sure she can be left without getting upset. I have already started calling her to 'come' and trying 'sit' too with treats and she seems a willing learner :D

bluekarin - I feel it is like having another child as I rush to get things done when she sleeps  All I can say is I feel as if she has been here for weeks as I am going to bed late and getting up so early! Also observing her every move is a challenge at times. What a joy she is though :D Good luck for Wednesday picking up Neela :D

Aww she is a real cutie pie :D i also took my puppy out in a shoulder bag when he was a puppy, dont let anyone put you off doing it, and now he is, like you said, scared of nothing, i think it really helps them to get socialised as they are higher up and can see more of whats going on around them :D

I remember when we got Poppy as a puppy, it was the same time our grandaughter was born and I was very invovled in looking after her and she was easier than the puppy but puppies soon grow up and need less constant care.

Lara is beautiful, looks a real sweatie. How big is she?

Thanks for all the kind comments. She is resting in her crate just now and she seems happy there and is still doing really well on the house training side :D I am spending a lot of time in the garden running up and down. Thankfully it is another dry day here at the moment, but it is quite breezy so not good for us hay fever sufferers :( (I have bought an air purifier to help and it seems to do the trick :D )

Chrissie- she weighs 1.5kg and is probably about 8" tall. I think she will eventually be about miniature poodle size.

Am still amazed at this little girl as tonight she got out her bed and went to the door to be let out for a wee  Up until then we just took her out at regular intervals but she obviously has the idea already :D Still will be watching her like a hawk  So full of energy. She loves rope toys to pull and chew. She has tried to chew me and my trousers but I am trying to be firm with her by saying 'NO' and giving her a toy if she needs to chew.

Lara is soooo adorable! What a clever girl too, picking up the house training so quickly  Just a quick tip that you might have already been told - keep up with the house training for a couple of weeks or so after you think Lara is 100% clean. We made this mistake with Tango, thinking she'd got the hang of it, and then a few days later we'd find a puddle. A couple of extra weeks housetraining once we thought she'd cracked it seemed to do the trick.

DM I cannot believe how well she is doing. I am just waiting for it all to go wrong :? Last night she went to bed around 10.30. YS came back in at midnight and took her out but he reckoned she didn't do anything however I think she must have done. I got up at 6.30 (she hadn't made a sound) she was dry and when I took her out she did all she had to do  I have started getting her to sit using small treats and I think she has got that already  I had read that poodles were smart but I am amazed. I put her in her crate (open into small play pen) after play and breakfast so that I could get showered etc and although she yowled for a minute or two she soon settled and slept. As I have never had a puppy before I read the books recommended by you guys and they have been such a help :D

Crates are brilliant, sometimes they get like small children when they are tired and grizzle around without settling, the crate just gives them somewhere secure to rest and feel secure.

Next door got a cavalier puppy a few months ago... I was worried at the time as they aren't 'dog people' and have some small boys but the pup has been angelic and very well behaved.
