Snowy

It's finished!

After slogging all day in the rain, Chateau Cluck opens for business!

I had to cut the tops off the trees in the run to get the netting over the top, but they will grow again (sambuccas and cherry). Also, the eglus take up quite a bit of room - when the cube arrives it will go on the outside of the run so there will be no need to go into the run to muck out or egg collect! 8) They have quite a few perching areas at the back and plenty of shrubbery to scratch about in. There are sheltered areas in two corners with the feeders underneath, plus some pecka blocks suspended from canes. I also have an old butler sink ready to go in a corner (when the rain stops) for a dust bath. I did end up having to spend a little bit more on it - cable ties (Daniel used the ones I had left to fasten around his bike  ), a bolt for the door and a roll of netting for the 'roof'. So total cost now approx. £45.

They all seem to like it, but when I went out to check, the five big girls were roosting in the green eglu, the purple eglu was empty! Ruby and Rosie were roosting in the branches so I posted them in through the egg port :D

Wow, it look really great Snowey.

I had 2 Eglus in the hen pen for my 6 big hens to begin with, but they only ever used one,so I took one out, giving them even more space.

They all seem to love packing in together in a small space

I also raised that Eglu & made a little ramp which makes it easier to clean out

We tried the Butler Sink thing - they used it as a sort of toilet, but I hope that works out better for you.

You should feel rightly proud of yourselves for such a great build 8)

Thanks all!

Egluntine - the piece of plastic is the Ikea shower curtain that was over the omlet run, I didn't like to waste it so stuck it up the side! Plus everything looks so exposed compared to their cosy little run  A half hearted attempt to recosy it for them.

The cube will go on the far end, entering where the summer shade is in the second picture (if that makes sense). I've got some slabs to put on the ground there so it will be steady and easy to get to.

That looks wonderful Snowy - very well done indeed! Lucky chickens too!

The wind/weather proofing around the sides will be very welcomed by them I'm sure. As will the amount of vertical height they have now. I hadn't realised how important it was until I let my chicks out of their smaller run into the whole of the aviary and they started flying around everywhere  . It's so good to see them satisfying their natural instincts isn't it (even if you do have to post them to bed at night  )

Hope your's realise what lucky chickens they are

SOOOOPERB,

Well done, ist's just like a bought one!

Kev.

Not a good thing to say - someone said it to my Mum (when I was little, back in the something-olithic era) in the context of 'that cake you made was nearly as nice as bought ones'

Not conducive to harmony in the household

:lol: I'd be upset if someone said that about my cooking Richard, but as it's about my run I'll take it as a compliment! 8)

I think it looks terrific. I showed the picture to someone at work who is toying with the idea of keeping chooks (having seen my photos plastered all over the office). she thought it looked fantastic and went off home to badger her OH. She lives in London and has an urban fox in her garden every night so will need to make sure it is really secure.
