Boris70
Hi All, A couple of weeks ago I posted about what to do with my maternity leave before the baby arrives, suggestions of christmas shopping, taking it easy etc we raised, and I have started my Christmas shopping, and I do now take it a bit easier. BUT There is still no sign of the baby - it's due a week today - and I'm huge, I can't sleep (so tired) and I've got dreadful indigeston all the time. I thought last night it might be happening as I was starving at 2am (never ever happened before unless really jetlagged!) so I came downstairs and had a cup of tea and some biscuits. I've had some cramping over the since Saturday - but it lasts for a few minutes, then comes back a few times over the next hour or so - and then disappears. To all you Mums out there - does this sound familiar? If so - how long after the cramping does the actual event start? Also anything else I can be doing - I can't buy anymore chickens! Popcorn
Oh Vicki - I could have written the above! You have ALL of my sympathies, and I know exactly how you are feeling. Not what you want to hear, but I went 14 days over my due date. It really was so frustrating in the end. I tried everything to bring my labour on, but nothing worked -eating pineapple and curry, going for drives on a bumpy road, raspberry leaf tea etc. The cramping sounds like Braxton Hicks. Your body is preparing to give birth. I was down to be induced on day 15, but lucikly my waters broke the day before and I started early labour. Your waters breaking is the best sign, but you might also loose your mucus plug (sorry boys!) when you have a wee, which is another sign things are on the move. Thinking of you and keeping evertything crossed the baby makes an early or on the day appearance. Edited October 30, 2007 by Guest
Egluntyne
Sounds as if things are moving ever so slightly. Good luck.
Boris70
cor - I really hope things are moving, it's strange how you just get to the point where you are so big you can't really do anything!
Aunty e
You poor thing. This is going to sound silly, and in no way as bad as what you're going through, but my cat was due to give birth three days ago, and looks so unhappy. She can't move properly, can't really clean herself, can just about amble over to the food bowl, and then collapses on my knee crying pitifully the rest of the time. And she's only been pregnant for nine weeks. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be for you right now. Fingers crossed that baby gets impatient. Rhapsody
First babies are nearly always late and that 'date' the hospital give you is meaningless, if you have severe Braxton-Hicks it means your ladyparts are gearing up though! Try.....um....having Ladies and Gentleman if your OH is willing
kazaddress
Oh dear I have absolutly no helpfull information to offer, however I would be happy to make you a pinapple and raspberry curry, and drive you around the surrey hills while you eat it! (would that work) Try.....um....having Ladies and Gentleman if your OH is willing Thats the funnest phrase i have heard this week
Guest
ooooooooooo a baby, how lovely, good luck Vicki!!!! xxxx Rhapsody, love your chicken names, should I ask if Scaramouche can do the fandango? No, okay I won't
Ziggy
I fully sympathise with you... the waiting can be unbearable, especially when you keep thinking that things might start 'anytime now'... My last (and 4th) daugther was born ten days early (on the same date as my second daughter!!), and I had cramping for the three weeks before that! I kept stopping my husband from going to work ('work' for him unfortunately is nowhere near, it involves flying to Finland), thinking baby could arrive any moment... my third child had been born three weeks early and the whole labour from first sign to me holding her was only two hours, so with the fourth child, the moment I felt the first cramps I got VERY excited thinking that was it... then again... then again... and the wee devil kept me waiting three weeks!!! By which time when I went into real labour I nearly ignored it as another false alarm and went off shopping for a birthday cake in M&S for my second child... even Hubby when I called him at work (thankfully for once not far from home) said 'ummmm... are we sure this time?... ummm... ok, I'll come home... (sigh)'... But as much as the wait and being huge seem endless, all these are definitely signs that things are getting ready to happen, so hang in there!!! Looking very much forward to hearing of the happy event when ur baby does decide to show up!
Guest
Try.....um....having Ladies and Gentleman if your OH is willing I can only agree with the others - it sounds like things are preparing to happen - I cramped on and off for a couple of days before I had my first (a week early - sorry.....). Hot curries, fresh pineapple and long walks, as well as what Rhapsody so poetically suggested, are all worth a try to speed things along. feemcg
You probably don't feel like it Vicki, but as Shona suggests a good long walk could help get baby's head down to stimulate your cervix - and it might help you sleep too. Good luck
Cinnamon
From my experience, & both of mine were very overdue, the horid cramps went on about a week before labour started. Then I had a show, then labour started the next day. The Hubby took me on a long car ride down a bumpy lane in our old Beetle to start one of them off, & it worked Good luck, I hope its soon. Waiting for a baby to come is even worse than waiting for your Eglu to arrive
bronze
Long walks yes I wouldnt bother with the pineapple though. You would need to eat eight in one sitting to get the required quantities of the chemical that does the job and your stomach would complain before that point. Yes the upset stomach might set of labour but you dont want to do that in the same way as you dont want to have castor oil. Try and just lounge and enjoy the last few days when your baby is in a safe place doing what it needs to do.
chickencam
It's like sitting on a time bomb isn't it Make sure that everything is prepared and that you have not put off any jobs that you won't get time for later, then just make the most of any sleep that you can get. I will second the long walk idea, but nowhere too remote Whatever you do it will all happen at the most inconvenient moment Best wishes
CatsCube
I know its not what you want to hear, but first timers rarly come on time let alone early. My first was 9 days over and my second was 13 days over. The best advice it to make the most of the quiet time you have before hand, and try to enjoy it, as much as it may not seem like it now, you really miss your bump when its gone. It can be quite a shock to go from being the centre of attention to being forgotten about while everyone coos over the new baby, so take advantage of the pampering while you can get it! Have you tried gaviscon for the indigestion, its ment to help a lot and is fine for use in pregnancy.
fairy&cake
ooooh! i had seth a year ago on Thursday! I didnt play the waitng game as i had a c-section. But long walks were all recommended. Boris70
Thanks everyone - it's made me feel a bit better knowing that I'm not the only one that goes through this. Yep - I know first babies are nearly always late - just had it in my head the whole time that the baby will turn up early. I really wish I could go for long walks - my lungs are the size of peanuts - so I'm exhausted doing the normal dog walk with Boris. I thought I had "the show" on Sunday - it was smaller that I thought - but defnitely not normal - so was hoping that was a sign. Also - Baby is most defnitely engaged - the head is hitting my cervix all the time - it is so painful! Fingers crossed it will be soon. (Happy birthday Seth)

RubyMurray
Hi there, It probably isn't what you want to hear at the mo, but I've heard that having sex can start labour off as theres something in the sperm that stimulates your cervix. I've not tried it myself - your hubby might like to give it a go though!!! I've never even got near my due date, I've got 3 kids, Bens 10, Gemmas 8 and Abbies 5. I had Ben at 32 weeks, Gemma at 36 and Abbie at 35 weeks all due to Pre-Eclampsia and all emergency c-sections. I'm not planning to have anymore children, but I have 4 chicks that are now 10 weeks old and it was so exciting to watch 'Dora' do her bit and see whether she had boys or girls - looks like 3 girls and 1 boy at the mo. (Bens chick is called Rose and the cock is Christopher Eggleston - young Dr Who fan you see, Gemmas chick is called Brenda after my big sister and Abbies chick is called Joan after my late mother-in-law) I wish you all well and let us know when he/she finally arrives. Take care, Dyan (RubyMurray) 8 x 7 x 1 x White Boxer Dog 1 x Ginger Tom 3 x Kids 1 x Hubby
Lesley
You probably don't feel like it Vicki, but as Shona suggests a good long walk could help get baby's head down to stimulate your cervix - and it might help you sleep too. Good luck I walked my poor daughter around the village so many times that she ended up with massive blisters on her heels - and Lauren was 14 days late, labour started on the day my daughter was due to go in to be induced. Perhaps it is fright that starts it? Your baby will be here soon vicki - and then you'll wish you had more time!
Tina C
'Ladies and gentlemen' worked for me - two weeks early I like the idea of a ride in a car on a bumpy road too!
CatsCube
The sex thing is true but (I dont know if I should say this on a family forum) mens sprem contains prostgadins which are whats used to stimulate and ripen the cervix, but if you ask any midwife, the best way to effectivly administer this type of prostgadin is erm . . . orally. Have fun
