Husband in shed at the bottom of the garden

Recommended Posts

Yes, the same husband I poisoned with dodgy soup a few weeks ago!

My OH has started a new job as the old company he was with looked like it was about to fold. First of all, the job is with a friend, which could cause problems if it doesn't work out, but that is the least of my worries!

When OH announced that he would be starting this new job, he also informed me that he would be working from home, with the occasional meeting elsewhere. My heart sank!

Calling all you ladies with teenagers and husbands out there............ It's 8am, you have found the missing bus pass and tennis shoe, made sure DD has taken her hayfever pill, reminded everyone to take their sandwiches out of the fridge, waved everyone goodbye and closed the door for 40 minutes utter peace and quiet before you leave for work. Bliss. It set me up for the day and if I was lucky, I would also have 30minutes at the end of my working day, alone, to relax and unwind before anyone else came home.

Never again! OH is around ALL the time (even though he is in the shed at the bottom of the very small garden). He just can't understand why I'm cross and grumpy.

When the children were little he worked abroad for months on end, then moved closer to home, but lived in Wales during the week, then he got a 'normal ' job, out at 8, home at 6 and now this working from home business.

The only good thing so far is the chickens are delighted to be free ranging all day long.

Has anyone else experienced this? How do you do it!?

As I sit here "working," my OH is sitting opposite also working. He works from home most days and we have a great time, chatting, having lunch together etc. Before, when I worked from home and he didn't I found it a bit lonely :boohoo: .

The only downside is that I have to keep the screen angled away from him so he doesn't realize how much time I spend on the forum

I am glad for my part time week off every month. 7 days every 21 where I am free to do as I please without being nice to the general public :lol::lol:

OH takes a couple of days off at the same time, but is usually at work on 2-3 day trips and it is absolute bliss. I do miss him, but love pottering around doing as I please in PEACE. No tv, no  when I log onto the forum :lol::lol:

You have my sympathy Janepie :(:(

lol  I love the fact he's in the shed at the bottom of the garden, if only I had room for a shed!

I can see it from both sides, I moan when OH is at work for hours on end and then again I moan when he's here getting in my way and making mess so the poor fella cant win!

Look on the positive side - it has a padlock on the outside non? 8)

:lol::lol: evil Clootie :wink:

My hubby works from home. His office is in the kitchen under the stairs (very Harry Potter). He used to have a whole bedroom, but then we had three kids  I love his company, but sometimes I like to be at home, on my own, with my music on loud doing what I want to be doing without a 'what are you doing?' when I decide to empty out the cupboards for a reshuffle. Unfortunately, he does get waylaid sometimes and plays online games (currently Warhammer online but I was a WOW widow for a loooong time :( ) instead of anything else round the house :x

I sympathise! :( My OH used to have a Monday to Friday job, so my weeks were organised. Now he works 4 on 4 off, with 18 days off every 7 weeks  I can't get into a routine at all! Trouble is mine tries to be helpful, bless him. I don't mind, but he does like to do things his way, and my way is very different! I shut myself in the dining room (sewing)and let him be as helpful as he wants and try not to notice what he's doing :?

My OH doesn't work (fortunately I do otherwise I would be a. bankrupt and b. in prison for GBH on OH). He is always here, and sometimes it drives me bats. My dream holiday would be for him to head off somewhere for a week or 2 and leave me to potter about the house on my own!

 It's not all negative - there are some good points to it! We often get some time to ourselves during the day now, whan all the children are at school/nursery. It's quite a novelty, and certainly good for our relationship! :D

Ooooooh!

You play with their toys! Games up now we all know! :D

OH works from home mainly, but just lately he has been trotting off to visit his ladies (or gents, but mostly ladies), or trips to Leeds or Kidderminster - and those days I just relish. I am more motivated when he isn't here and the housework gets done. It was handy because I could go out and didn't have to worry about the children - he was there for them to come home to. He is a workaholic anyway, but I do resent the rasping gasp that he does as a hint that he would like a cup of tea. I don't like it when strangers to me are invited inside (he knows them) and there is all the washing hanging on the radiators or I'm plodding around with squawking chickens in my best holey, filthy clothes - I'm sure he tells them that I am the odd job person.

DH goes off to work by 8am taking DD with him to drop to school, leaving me at home in my dressing gown with dogs & chooks and the Forum of course...wonderful!

Yesterday we decided to "run away" to the cinema for the afternoon - such a treat, no children, hardly anyone in the cinema and Ben & Jerry's icecream to munch on before it melted....bliss :D ...until we realised the film finished at 5.15 and DD needed collecting from after school rounders at....5.15 :wall: Back to earth with a jolt!!

"Odd job person" Koojie, you do make me chuckle

I really enjoy being just Rosie and me (oh, and a few animals  )

I savour the odd time when she's with her dad though... BAD MUM!

At the end of last year, The Boy moved in for 3 months while he was between abodes; while he's the cleanest and most accommodating of chaps, doing some DIY and was working from home. I just missed my space and peace when I wasn't at work.

I've done some washing, drying, ironing all the boring stuff that somehow manages to get done anyway and i have spent more time with the chooks, oh and the odd hour or 3  on here but still.........BORRRRRRREDDDD. :wall:

My OH took voluntary redundancy 18mths ago and set up on his own as a photographer, working from home. Our bedroom downstairs (we're in a bungalow with loft conversion), got turned into his studio and we moved into a much smaller room upstairs.

Have to say, once I got used to this, the new bedroom was ok, but having him at home 24/7 drove me absolutely nuts for months. :wall:

I work part time, so enjoyed that time in morning after they'd all gone to school and work, when I had some peace and quiet with just me and the cat. He'd try to be helpful and do the washing - putting some stuff in the machine that should be handwashed, then hanging it out all wrong. Tidying up or shopping differently to me, not clearing up after making his lunch etc. Just all sorts of little things that end up making you want to scream with frustration and if you say anything, you get the hangdog expression and 'I was only trying to help' and they make you feel guilty.

Then he says how much more relaxed he is now he's not driving all over the country, or away for a few days, so you feel guilty for getting cross again and have to bite your tongue!

Have to say though, it does eventually get better and I have got used to it now and actually quite like having him around. Plus our youngest son's temperement has improved with having his dad around more.

So, just grit your teeth and count to ten before saying anything you may regret later when they start to really annoy you!

I like it when OH is at home working EXCEPT when he brings people back to the house or leaves stuff set up in the living room. I don't like that. But he's always worked at home a fair amount, it's more unusual for me to be around while he's working to tell you the truth.

Thankfully, he's moving into the spare garage when we move - my brother is going to help us turn it into a proper little office for him with a nice secure door, and then when he comes back from late night gigs, he can drive into the main garage and unload straight into his garage. This makes me very happy :)

I sympathise too, OH works in Wiltshire 4 days a week. I love a bit of time to myself, I can watch all the programmes on TV he hates like Eastenders, Holby and the Apprentice without anyone moaning at me. I enjoy 3 afternoons of peace and quite in an empty house till the children come home-bliss.

However I don't like it when he is away for longer periods, last year he was away in Iraq, he came back early due to PTSD following a near miss which killed 1 and injured another, we endured a nightmare year and am just glad its all over and we are back to our 'part time' sort of life.

My OH now works from home most days, in the dressing room/study. I quite like it actually, we always eat dinner together and he's there to open jars and reach things up high  He's also on a three day week at the mo so we often sneak off to the cinema or i get him to take me to town. I'd really miss him if he went to the office every day, though that's not likely considering he works in Reading, a two hour drive each way.

Saying all that, he's been at the office today and i've quite enjoyed being able to do nothing without having to justify it
