Snow

Recommended Posts

My son is supposed to drive to Sheffield today (from Herts) to say with a uni friend, I've tried to explain how bad it is there. What are his chances of making it via the M1? Nil i should think

He'd be mad to attempt it....he'd get up the M1 no problem but Sheffield is a real mess, our Look North regional programme is reporting from there all of the time and it's really bad, so unless it's absolutely necessary to go, I'd say stay at home! They are forecast more snow today and overnight and then extremely low temperatures.

Only Squirt has ventured up the garden but everyone else inside the run.

Murray said he'd already cleared the snow off the paths and drive before he left for work around 5 this morning! Only the boy's footprints visible - later got filled in too!

And Tipsy with a pole up her bottom because she is a pain in the proverbial.

Not really! Well yes she is a pain in the bottom but I haven't really shoved a pole up there to make a chicken popsicle.

 Chick on a stick  Take care on your steps tomorrow morning; its meant to be very cold overnight.

We've been out for a yomp round our local woods. We've seen a frozen lake and walked along a ride with a mile of virgin snow up to my boot-tops kicking it everywhere. The snow is soo light. We're warm but exhausted! Apparently there is a snow plough stuck at the bottom of our hill, which doesn't sound very likely but neighbours were off to view it (as you can tell not much happens round here  ).

Yep, will be careful. I have salted the paths (I've got a nice little stash for just that purpose having run out earlier on this year) and the steps. Actually I have always been fine on them - it's the bit into the greenhouse that I always fall over and into because it's a bit of a slope. Luckily the greenhouse stops me from sliding too far down the garden.

For anyone attemting to come to Brum:

It's been snowing gently here all day and I reckon we have about an inch of snow as it's been melting too, despite low temperatures. Forecast for round here is minus 12 tonight  Pavements are icy under the snow so difficult in low footfall/non shopping areas. However, all main roads are clear though some local and isolated roads may be bad, as in very icy. I have Timberland boots and could have easily just slid down from the train station this morning! Temperatures have been below freezing day and night for almost a week now. I've just cleared the snow off my car to stop the local children scratching it getting the snow off (I know, killjoy!), and it is solid ice underneath.

Local train services and buses are running OK, I've used both in the past few days.

I like your photo Seagazer - your table looks like a giant cake! Just as I thought we didn't have a stuck snowplough this morning ...apparently it was a gritter in a ditch. A neighbour has sent a photo to the local rag (I told you not much happens round here) so we might all get to see it tomorrow. OH has just stuck a bottle of plonk into the snow up to its neck to cool it down for dinner this evening :D

Thanks for that, my ED was supposed to coming up there for a theatre trip but she has opted out, a friend of hers has too. It looked a bit dicey and the forecast seemed to be worse for this evening and not much better here.

To be honest I don't blame them. It's all very well attempting to travel in the daytime, but things can change rapidly overnight and if there isn't the traffic to shift any snow that falls, you could be in trouble.

I hope they aren't too disappointed.

Well DS was waiting for his train - by the reports it said running on time. But there is a signal failure further up the line. When it eventually came he then got stuck in a tunnel with no electricity. He's since made it to his connecting train and is on the way home - should arrive shortly plus a walk. So he is not a happy bunny - especially as he tried for a rescue by OH by car. Probably would have been quicker and warmer. OH is so mean sometimes. My poor ickle baby.

You lot get your post early  - we're lucky to get post at all at the moment but if we do, it's around 3pm!

We haven't had any snow since the 1" at the beginning of the week, It's frozen solid and we're forecast minus 12 tonight, same as Birmingham.

SiL left Doncaster this morning and had to drive a colleague who couldn't get his car out down to Banbury before coming back to the village. Another colleague left shortly after them and lasted 5 minutes before he had to abandon his car :? The hotel they were booked into had 2 members of staff and no food
