chestnutmare
It's been a long but very exciting day. We left early to pick up the hens but the 1.5hr drive to the poultry place ended up taking at least 3hrs due to bad traffic. We had a light covering of snow but we really couldn't work out why there was such traffic and standstills. When we arrived to the poultry place we spent a lot of time chatting to the owner and looking at the chickens. We ended up getting what we planned on getting, we didn't know for certain because you know how it is when you get there and see them - but we didn't change our mind. After deciding that we'll likely leave the girls free range when we are home to supervise we got a beautiful Bluebell that chose us. Absolutely beatiful, seems quite docile and is OHs favourite already. A Columbine and White Star. No names are final yet, we still need time to get to know them. On to pictures, as promised. Sorry they're dark but it was evening time and getting dark quickly. OH clipped one wing, I clipped the other two. A photo taken in the car on the way home... We had to quickly put the front of the run on as the extension (still!) hasn't been delivered. So for now they just have standard run. We need to buy more white cobbles but we added bricks to the skirting after the photos were taken. Quick! Before it's dark get the chickens in their home... smiley face! Time for some corn and a drink before bed, it's getting dark. The White Star seems to be the boss and is pecking the Columbine and chasing her away... not that I had much time to observe!! Bluebell We used a torch to get them to bed, which didn't take long using the torch. It's a shame it was getting dark as I haven't had time to sit and watch them for very long at all. I'm looking forward to waking early tomorrow, watching them and taking more photos. OH is much more enthusiastic about them now they're here so perhaps he'll be hurrying out with me to feed them tomorrow. No doubt they'll have names by tomorrow too. I don't think everyone understands our enthusiasm or excitement though! But at least the members here understand! Thanks for looking. chestnutmare
Thanks Gertie. We're going to get more pebbles tomorrow - they're meant to be acting as a weight to hold the run down securly and a border to help stop the wood chips getting everywhere. S&O - Yes, he has the hens in the box there. He's bringing them from the car to the . I'm looking forward to getting to know them better tomorrow - a glance is just not enough! Have you decided when you're getting your hens =?

chestnutmare
It'll be interesting to see what colour egg the columbine will lay. I'll have to be patient but another something to look forward to. I have a short list of names but they will be decided tomorrow. OH is doing well, much more enthusiastic then I thought. He took them out of the box to put them in the too. I've just been outside to check everything is closed and secure. I can't help worrying about them on their first night here. Sageandonion
CNM - had hoped to get the girls this weekend and may still - only downer is that the chicken run is one massive puddle as we've had so much rain - our garden is like a bog at the moment. Hoping we have no rain tonight and it dries out a bit - the chicken supplier is open tomorrow and Sunday. Did get layers pellets and corn today plus bins to contain the sacks of food so we're pretty much there supplies wise. Will log on tomorrow to see how you're doing, so keep those piccies coming
Purplemaniacs
Congratulations, they are beautiful. Glad you got there in the end. The Columbine seems to have some developing head gear so perhaps you won't have too long to wait for an egg. Enjoy tomorrow, it is great watching them settle into their new home. The Go looks lovely, it looks great in yellow, really bright and cheery just what we need in this dull weather Chrissie
Valkyrie
Yayyy pretty girlies. Do love your OH's pic though! My OH was sort of neutral, and he feigns disinterest except when he goes out digging for worms and makes sure each girl gets a share. And he chats to them - he won't admit it though.
