Silkies - so excited!

Recommended Posts

Oh I think I saw this pair today, so very beatiful! I would love to have silkies but I would feel too bad not letting them free range with the others to keep them dry and non muddy (we have a dung heap.... )

Mine free range with the others and don't mind mud or rain  Although they do need the occasional trip to the indoor foot spar for their feathery feet

I am really pleased with them. I had a bit of a problem getting them to go to bed as they seemed to settle down in the corner of the run. I had read somewhere that shining a torch from the inside of the eglu encourages them in but it didn't seem to help. Had to get OH to assist. Hopefully they will know the drill tomorrow night. :D

How old are they?

Have you got any bigger photos? ... esp of any headgear :)

I have been told that they are POL. I will try to get more photos soon. In the one I took they were just out the carrier and not sure of anything, poor things. I am glad I took the carrier to the show though as they had been in a box for a while and I felt it gave them a chance to stretch a bit on the last part of their journey.

They seem fine this morning. I think they haven't been used to roosting on rails (could this be possible?)as one in particular found it difficult to place her feet correctly.....she made a less that graceful exit from the eglu  There was a bit of shouting from L and L too as they heard the newbies. I think it was a "we can hear you, show yourselves" sort of shout  At the moment they can only hear each other so hopefully they can get used to each other being in the garden over the next week. Then I plan to let them see one another.

On the names front I had thought about Blanche for one until I got them and realise they are much too fancy for that. I think collectively they will be the Twitter sisters. I have stolen that from someone on here but thought it was so brill :D So I hope whoever it is won't mind  But individually I think we have an Estelle and a Trixiebelle. L and L will still be known as "the girls" (this has confused my children in the past as I also refer to my coffee pals as "the girls" ). OH reckons "the girls" are having a sly fag round the back of the eglu discussing the new arrivals and plotting against them  I am not as unhinged as I sometimes sound in my posts....honest :D

 How kind of him to build them a bike shed round the back so they are out of the weather and able to plan their nefarious doings

He feigns indifference but I know he is always thinking about their best interest :lol::lol:

Like fluffy snowflakes will they let you touch them yet? :D

Yes, I can touch them and have had to pick them up as they are having difficulty getting into the eglu at night (think I will start another thread looking for advice about that) They seem to have smaller wings than the others so I have to make extra sure I have them tucked them in fully when lifting them up.

Love that green stuff too :!: I used to have some..........think it was called grass
This is the bit that the girls don't usually get to fr on  We did reseed it though at the end of last year as I had had the eglu with my rabbit and her babies on it. It was bald in bits
I also noticed how nice your garden looks. 8)

Thank you. I love gardening and got the greenhouse and raised beds a few years ago. The girls have been known to escape and help turn over the raised beds. Usually when I have just planted small plants

Aw, sooo cute! I am getting serious 'new chicken' envy at the moment  Everyones new girls are looking fab, think I'm going to move next year so that I can fit more in!

After going to that show I really could have bought more. It was so great to actually see the different breeds. You look to have a lot of different types. What is your favourite :?:
