Housework ! Why ??

Recommended Posts

My motiavtion has been completely wiped today, but im just wondering am I the only person who seems to be going round and round in circles doing the same ol cruddy jobs ! No sooner is one complete then either the OH, kiddies (I have 3) or even the cats and sometimes on the odd occassion the chookies have destroyed all your work.

The problem is if I left it, it just wouldnt get done or not to my standard and I can only manage a day at the most before I have to tidy .... so I suppose in some ways I only have myself to blame

I must admit my standards have dropped over the years. Living with 3 blokes who don't seem to notice or mind an untidy house (which is mostly caused by them anyway  ) has made me care less and hence do less.

I tend to have a manic cleaning/tidying frenzy when people are due to come round, the rest of the time I do just enough to make things look bearable!

I was sitting having coffee in the kitchen this am with OH and his mate and noticed a hoooge cobweb. had to move it when friend had gone

Why, indeed?

I did shift a bit of the electricians mess this morning, but lost interest half way through, and went out with the dog instead. The loos are clean, and the kitchen.

I'll not comment on the rest of it....

cobwebs are your friend if you cut yourself, anyway, and the extra animal fur acts as insulation!

I do two mornings cleaning PW whilst YS is at nursery - scrubbing p** off other people's loos was never in my career plan but it fits in with the children and that is the most important thing; I do absolutley the best job I can but I find it soul destroying to be doing the same thing at the same time every week! At least at home I can encourage my boys to help but I do HATE housework!

So sorry; whinge over!

Snap - 4 males in this house who are quite capable of trashing all my hard work without even noticing

So I don't bother most of the time. OH and I work opposite each other, so at the beginning of my days off, I blitz the kitchen (because he always leaves it a tip) and I leave it clean when I go back to work. When it's his days off and I am at work, I don't lift a finger. The oldest son is responsible for his own room and bathroom and washing and has been for several years now (he is 21 and he finally blitzed his room this year!!! :o ) I despair of the two younger ones - they seem to shed school bags, PE kit, socks, smelly trainers and clothes wherever they go :?

I have found that the only way I can really keep on top of it is to have myself a little rota. Its easier for me granted,as I only work a few days a week.

So on Wednesday the whites get washed ,Thursday is Bathroom cleaning day,Friday is the Kitchen, Saturday is towels washing day,Sunday is sheets.... & so forth.

It all goes onto my Google calendar.

That said I was supposed to Hoover on Tuesday this week & STILL haven't gotten round to it :lol:

My house is always messy! It's small, we only have a small living room and kitchen, and with both me and OH working and two kids under 5....well, let's just say it's cluttered! It isn't dirty, just messy but I do feel like housework is never ending for little visible result  Saying that, I dread to think what it would be like if no housework got done :lol:

Apart from the fact that I live with 2 blokes and not 3, I could have written every word above!

Well DH and I do the cleaning between us and always have. DD's used to help as well when they were at home. I do washing whenever there is a load, kitchen floor is mopped rarely  but I hoover all downstairs on the days I don't work. Lifes too short and I've now discovered there are golf balls to be hit on the practice ground...................

Oh and the dishwashers broken and wasnt impressed as so near Christmas - mans coming Friday - if he hasnt got "the part" with him I have told OH to lock him in the house and refuse to let him go till they courier the said "part" over. So if anyone lives in London and your man works mending dishwashers and is late home this Friday hes being held prisoner at mine

Very good question. Exactly - why indeed! Maybe I should say what is it exactly?

Wellllllllll I am untidy, so is DD, DS wasn't quite as bad. OH is a tidy freak and so I figure I just have to rebel against his whinges. But I do like warning before visits so that I can at least have the place reasonably presentable even if it's messed up shortly after.

Then last month I got a job as a cleaner! What an eeejit! But I did work hard at it and it was terrific to hear people appreciating what you do instead of being taken for granted, or treated like a doormat. I did pick up some very handy ideas and hints and put them into practice here. (Although I have to say the boss was rather bonkers and so disorganised - I should have been paid at the beginning of December and she's conveniently forgotten - not for long because I'm going to sort her out tomorrow). For the first time I actually enjoyed it and consumed with even more pride because I always put off today what I could do next month and it was done in a day or so. Although when it isn't noticed or acknowledged you can't help thinking well, knickers, I may as well give up!

 Alis girls!!!

What I hate happening is when in the gloom of winter with some candles flickering the house looks cosy and sparkly and then that horrible, harsh winter sun shines and shows that you forgot to clean the kitchen cupboard where you spilt something when you were cooking or that you haven't properly dusted or cleaned the floors for several days. That is the exact moment that someone calls.

Great idea Liz! 8)

I actually like cleaning and housework, but find it hard to find the time to fit it in; generally Thursday evening is housework time... I start at around 7.30pm when I have done the dog walking, animal feeding, human feeding etc and usually get a decent 'maintenance clean' done by 9-9.30pm. Otherwise I just tidy and clean up as I go along, laundry is popped in the machine/line/dryer in spare moments or on my lunch break.

Despite it being just Rosie and I plus the animals, it still gets in a mess  Phil is only here at weekends, but he's pretty good and asks what he can do to help as soon as he walks in the door. It doesn't really help that I am still working on the house, so everywhere gets boxed up and moved around.
