I guess they are on the wavelength as not being a staple kind of shop - maybe Catsy can persuade them that it is a staple for her!    But knowing how busy it gets, maybe they are thinking of the public health rather than their profits.  I'd like to think so.

Meanwhile all hell has been let loose at the inlaws household.  MIL is a selfish mare at the best of times and will not stop her activities.  FIL is pretty much on the downhill slide after his cancer has spread to his bones.  SIL has laid the law down and MIL is grudgingly staying at home.  SIL wondered how long it would be before her father broke and decided that his last days in Her Majesty's Pleasure might be worth it!  It lasted less than 24 hours as FIL escaped to SIL to say that they have had so many blazing rows and she who is in charge of the mobile phone will not accept any more calls from her offspring.  Makes no matter if he wants to talk!  There's always landline - but . . . So he is very worried by her behaviour and that he is worried about their food etc.  SIL reassured him that both she and OH would make sure they didn't go without and was setting up an account for them Fresh foods I think, something like that anyway.  First delivery next week and she knows her mother will be furious.  Meanwhile OH went back home much relieved.  Not heard anything since, apart from OH telling his sister that we'll take his dad and she can have mum.  She replied that I had already contacted her with offers to take them both.  She was joking.:anxious:  If he can't cope with less than a day - heaven knows what would happen if she was here too.

Still, my mum is happy enough.  She has a pet brimstone butterfly that she is giving regular honey/sugar drinks.  Monday was so lovely so she opened the door and he went outside but came back indoors!  She was thrilled!  She'll be putting a little leash on it next and taking it for a flutter around the garden.  It was so warm in her conservatory that I guess the butterfly had come out of hibernation a bit prematurely.  Although I did see a small tortoiseshell here yesterday.

No sound of chiffchaffs yet so we aren't out of the extended sneaky winter yet.

I'm sorry to hear about your family travails K - I have stood down my regular visit to Pops, and sending him medical supplies, gloves and sanitisers. He is under lockdown and I understand that my sister is getting his shopping for him and leaving it at the door.

We have a small flock of Chiff Chaffs here K, they are twittering around and hanging out on the roofs entertaining me.

Here's something to make us all laugh - I understand that no animals were harmed in the making of this video

EUROVISION IS CANCELLED!!!! I REPEAT: EUROVION IS CANCELLED!!!

😱😱

What will I do with my time in May!

Are they closed just temporarily?

Yes they just closed because of the epidemic. More shops are closing their doors, although only restaurants and cafes are closed down by the government.

I think this is very positive news. I don't know if it's in the news. Hokkaido was one of the first places after China to have a lockdown /state of emergency and that is being lifted tomorrow. It started  2 or 3 weeks ago and so I am hoping that's the timescale we're looking at.

Now that is interesting... Japan is a very 'obedient' nation though and I bet they have all been adhering to the lockdown, which is what made it effective... no such sense here - schools are still open, with the children going back home to infect their families. I just popped into our local shopping centre to pick up a prescription for an elderly neighbour, and there were old folks and people with small babies/children wandering around... If you must get out, then walk in the fresh air, not in a shopping centre full of germs

CT you think those things are bad.....Eastenders and Neighbours have both suspended filming - Armageddon must actually be nigh!

On a different and slightly more serious note, a local poultry shop had to close today after having their busiest day ever and selling out of POL hens. Makes me worry that mine might be stolen - I have a fairly thick hedge but a footpath runs alongside the garden and the girls aren’t always all that quiet

Our Dutch version of Eastenders stopped filming too! Never watched it, but some people are going to have a rough time!

Oh Catsy - didn't they just declare Iceland the winner by default!  You'll have to start writing your own song - no Ikea, no Eurovision . . . no going out!  There is your challenge for the lockdown!

News from FIL who used the landline while MIL was otherwise occupied.  He is going to concentrate on growing his own veg again.  He has done this for years - if he digs up her lawn she'll go spare!

Number one son is on lockdown as exposed to a child in his class with a brother confirmed as having it.  Soooo we wait for vaccines.  I would like to know if what I had over the new year was related to this one though.

I'm writing a card to our elderly neighbour along the road giving her our phone number - in case she needs or just wants a chat on the phone.  Should help ease the boredom.  She is very vulnerable with Parkinsons and something else.  Yet she still will wander along the road with her little dog in better weather - which we haven't had for a long time!

We were watching Independence Day - oh dear starts off with "It's the end of the world as we know it . . . "

Patsy that is good news indeed, plus no EastEnders and the others - some days are just so much better!

Just catching up.

Elderly aunt in Leicester who I saw at beginnig of month seems ok, not impressed she wont be able to  have pub lunch, exercise class or church. Trying to teach her to use WhatsApp video.

Work chaotic at present (GP nurse) telephone consultations anyone inside has to be triaged by receptionist.  Pounding head for 2 days.

Shops in London same as everywhere. Paracetamol in short supply as they say ibruprofen shouldnt be used as can make symptons worse.

Someone ,mentioned the fact they had a bad infection earlier in year. OH convinced I have had i had Corona as in January I had an awful cough, not a very high temp but went on for weeks. Nearly hospitalised  as I have asthma. He and YS had a lesser infection. And yes I keep being reminded I am one at risk.

Done emergency box for us. Must get cat food and chicken food in case have to quarantine.

Stay well

Ali xx

Ali - snap - I got my lurgy on the 29th December and it lasted for 2 weeks with a few issues with speech as it was an effort to make the voice work so that carried into at least 3 weeks - weather-wise I missed nothing.  My son passed it on to me, we even visited my mum - but she didn't catch it and eventually OH got it from me.  Both DS and OH didn't have it as bad and yes, asthmatic too.  The coincydinkies are tooooo many between this new virus - except no fatalities.  Perhaps it was already here but in the original state before it evolved.

Crazy times indeed.:(

There is a theory that Coronavirus arrived here some time ago and passed unnoticed but meaning that some people will have antibodies and immunity so can help others.  We won’t know unless testing happens.

Here, we are under house arrest ( or feels like it!) Daughter delivered food and aubiouse this morning and we stood requisite distance apart.  She is cashing in her season ticket as no prospect of returning to her office in London for yonks.   Her 7 year old is becoming very anxious.   I’m bored after 2 days of this and frustrated because I want to be out there helping!   I’m told I’m helping by staying safe but this isolation goes against the grain.  Complaint over.   I will get on with it.

Stay safe, people

I'm firmly convinced it's already done the rounds. Early December we were in a Belgium hotel along with two coach loads of Chinese people who were all coughing and spluttering and blowing their noses at breakfast to the extent that it put me right off eating.

Plus, European people do like to kiss and hug. At that same breakfast a group of business people were greeting each other, all kisses and touching. One of the women had a streaming cold and I remember thinking that they'd all have a cold now.

I don't watch MSM, I find them too dramatic and irritating so I don't know if they've mentioned that China is getting very positive results from an influenza drug already out there. I'll try to find the article where I read it.

Here's another similarity - no runny nose!  I had the hankies by me, but nothing out of the normal!  I didn't have a sore throat but it seemed to hang around below the larynx - pharynx maybe.  Talking was a struggle and breathing so upper bronchial maybe? Dunno, but I'm glad some places are finally putting a ban on wild animal markets.  Here's hoping they don't start hunting for tiger whiskers to give them strength!

My dad is doing well considering - I have said that a walk up the road and back, keeping away from folks and not touching anything would be beneficial. he is able to sit outside under cover when it is warm enough. I have sent down a package of vitamins, cold/'flu preps, vet scrub and hypochlorous hand spray. Sister has been organised to drop off groceries. he is 88, well for his age, but suffers with his chest at the best of times.

I am fetching and dropping off prescriptions and groceries for elderly neighbours.

Onwards..........

Well done to your dad.  My mum is also coping well.  It's the outlaws that are struggling not to kill each other!  Mind you, I know I'll probably be the same with OH in a few weeks!:anxious:

Meanwhile my old neighbour is having issues with her daughter bringing home friends - and my friend suffers really badly with asthma.  Daughter is getting very unpleasant - and she is a health worker!  You'd think . . . !!!!  Words fail me!

Its the same here, it goes against the grain not to kiss people on the cheek on meeting and departing, but obvs we have all stopped!

I thought that currently the over 70s were allowed out, just take sensible precautions?  As DM says, some fresh air and exercise must be beneficial.  The PM is likely to announce more stringent measures very soon though.  I know in France you need to be clutching a signed piece of paper saying you are going to shops/pharmacy/dog walk or excercising alone otherwise you can be fined, regardless of age.  Its not that bad here yet, although some borders are physically blocked with Spain, so we can't get in or out unless commuting or delivering goods.

There were 4079 fines taken yesterday. That's at €135 a piece and now they are talking of increasing it to €350 because so many are ignoring the virus rules. Apparently 2000 Parisiens arrived on Ile de Ré yesterday to spend summer in their holiday cottages in flagrant breach of the movement rules. No doubt the Police will be there today. This is an island off the Atlantic coast by La Rochelle which has a Winter population of 5000 and a Summer one of 40,000. We had two people walking dogs come past the house yesterday, which is also a breach of the rules. We need to take our rubbish and recycling to the communal bins as it's getting warm here, but the movement paper doesn't have a category for that so we can't. Just our luck that the local Police drive past if we take it.
