soapdragon
Oh, I do disike February! Not quite Winter but not Spring! Some buds and bulbs coming up but still not new leaves on the trees.......as soon as Feb is over it does (to me anyway ) feel as though we are on the run up to some warmer weather Still, at least its a short month
Cat tails
My birthday is in February... But I know how you feel!
soapdragon
If you have something to look forward to this month then that must make a difference! Naturewise tho, its neither here nor there in terms of moving on towards warmer weather....the poor garden is clearly trying so hard to grow but just not quite getting there! YS has his birthday on 8th but, as he was born at 29 weeks, we had a horrid time and he spent 8.5 weeks in SCBU with many hurdles along the way - at several points we thought he would die - so for me its an extra sad time and I can't be really happy each year until 2nd April...when he can home and we knew things were fine So that always clouds the month for me but at this time of year I am just so happy to see the buds and other greenery trying to get ahead, even if they are fighting a losing battle at the moment!!!! Things do seem to be 'on hold' in the garden during Feb and theres not much to do out there either! I feel as though I should be getting ready, pruning, digging over but its all a little premature as yet!!! Am feeling bah humbug about this month, just in case you hadn't guessed Maybe its the lack of sunlight
newcountrygirl
I feel the same. Everywhere is so soggy at the moment. Every time I walk up our field with the dog I am slipping and sliding in the mud and there are great big puddles everywhere. Roll on March. I want to be able to get in the garden and start planting. chickencam
The way I look at it February is a distinct improvement on January, one step closer to spring. It is lighter the birds are singing and it is my OH's birthday. Although I wish it was any other day than Valentine's Day, impossible to get a decent meal and who wants to go away in this country in February. We looked at hotels and cottages but dicided to stay at home eith our wood burner.
patsylabrador
Well there is always the Six Nations to cheer me up, a blood soaked, gladiatorial manfest to lift my spirits. Actually I rather like February, the sky is brighter and you start to get that little springtime thrill. This is when I decide what to do with the garden each year. This year I'm going to go overboard with lavender, sweetpeas and sunflowers. That's the plan, it never quite looks as glorious as it does in my mind. I've also discovered TeamRock radio station which is so great for all things rock and hardly ever mentions football - that really is cheery. I also love the calmness of February, it's quite relaxing and time to recoup. I'm a fan.
gavclojak
The only good thing about February is its not long to my next pay day
Grandmashazzie
I also quite like Feb. I feel the worst of winter is over (I hope) and it's been sunny here last few days so I have been out walking with the little ones.OH has been gardening, hardy soul,he started after Christmas moving soil and raking. Now he is muttering about getting a rotavater. I am imagining a sea of mud all summer.
Daphne
I like February as well because the snowdrops are out and they are the first sign of Spring for me - everything to look forward to. My most hated month when I just feel depressed, is November - its the lack of light and incessant damp.
percy049
Its the dark days that make me feel down Now its staying lighter later, and more days are sunny, it makes me feel better
jess1merlin
It's my birthday in February as well. Have just been trying to book somewhere locally for a meal tomorrow evening but all the nice small restaurants down here seem to shut this month and take their holidays as it is out of the holiday season On the plus side the snowdrops are out, the daffs are nearly out and the sun is shining. Valkyrie
YES! I don't normally - the turning point for me is the solstice because summer is coming. But chatting on the phone to a friend today said I seemed quite negative lately. And I suppose yes, everything is piling on top. I am up to date with the cleaning - which is all I ever seem to do and it isn't even my job! Am totally fed up with life not going how I planned. This month is our 30th anniversary and OH didn't even know. He wasn't even going to do anything anyway. We should have had our smallholding up and running at least 5 years ago and the goalposts keep moving. Number one son moved in temporarily in 2012 is still with us and now looking for a new job so I don't think he'll be moving out any time soon. Daughter cannot control her spending on clothes - because it was in a sale and she is supposed to be saving up to move out. Not quite warm enough for getting the veg under way. Hubby ignores a damp problem in the house and the greenhouse leaks and he won't help there either. We cannot revamp the house while the water is pooling in the hallway by the front door (it's coming in from above the porch somewhere - I think there is a hole by the bathroom window where the windows were replaced and the pointing has been damaged - plus lead flashing broken) and the children need to move out so we can have a new carpet done and the decorating and new furniture because that's falling apart. It's not that we can't afford it - just no point in getting anything nice because people just make a mess. And I just want to go ARGHHHHH! So yes, very much negative. Sorry! But on the brighter side the oak tree is budding so I hope it will be oak before ash again. And I now have 2 chooks laying now. We have a holiday booked for Mull again in June. And the ferry is booked too. And it's sunny today!
Cinnamon
Hate, hate, hate February March is a far more optimistic month
Luvachicken
Not sure if I like February or not. My birthday is next week I like how you can really see the day light getting longer, snowdrops - I have a couple of crocus almost flowering too, and the birds just starting to sing on a nicer evening. But it is cold and seems to snow more in February than other times. At least it's shorter than any other month
Lavenders_Blue
I absolutely loathe February. It's the point in the year by which I am totally and utterly fed up with short days and long nights, wet muddy dog walks (and the resulting filth all over the car/house), fingers so cold they lose circulation and become unbearably painful, wind so cold it chills you through to your bones, high heating bills... The list goes on! Thank the lord there's only 28 days in this wretched month - roll on March!
Blackrocksrock
I dont mind February - the nights are getting longer and the snowdrops in my garden are out too and the daffs are popping up growing well and look like being early too this year way up here in the North - we have only had a small amount of snow and my birthday was also this week - although I have been 21 again for too many years once more. Alis girls
Another Feb birthday and I forgot to check my name and age at bottom of the page on Tuesday. I now have to wait till next year
Groovychook
Happy Belated Birthday Ali I'm not too keen on this time of year either and only feel truly happy about the new year once Pancake Tuesday has arrived! I'm not entirely sure why- think it's just that it's the first little celebratory marker of the year... I do love pancakes too
The Dogmother
Another one here who doesn't much like winter - the darkness, cold and damp, and the need to wear so many clothes. February is more positive, and I love to see the days getting longer. Really need to get stuff done in the garden, but it is pretty muddy at the moment, so would probably be counter-productive. I think that around Christmas time is my lowest point; I do try to keep exercising, and to get out in the light at weekends to lift my mood. I was off work today and had a lovely walk with the dogs; bright, warm sunlight and things starting to grow. Val, sorry that you're so down, big hug coming your way XXOO
Lavenders_Blue
I was also off work today, DM. Maybe I should take back a tiny bit of what I said earlier as the weather was totally glorious and I had a lovely walk with the pooch. Mind you I went horse riding on Saturday for a couple of hours and ended up so cold that my fingers and toes were really painful and I took ages to warm up afterwards. Overall I reckon it's still horrible month, but with a tiny glimmer of the promise of spring.
Valkyrie
I think the dull days don't help. Certainly lifts the mood when the sun comes out.
Chortle Chook
Maybe there's a reason why people born in Feb are supposed to be idealistic - or am I confusing that with 'optimistic'? Today is grey and grimly but there is something to look forward to this Feb down in the Oxfordshire / Berkshire corner and that's the Reading Bantam show which is actually held in Newbury. It's on 21st & 22nd Feb at Northcroft Leisure Centre, Newbury, RG14-1RS. All those wonderful chickies to look at - Oh and call ducks too Other than that I just love the snow drops and the cyclamen coum so here's a picture to cheer you all up (This is not my garden which is all chicken trashed, but a bit of no-man's land that I've gorilla gardened behind my house where people park cars)
Groovychook
Lovely, cheerful photo's What a pretty patch of land!
Valkyrie
Oooooh prettttttttttttttttttyyyyyyyyyy! Today driving home from Basingstoke there's a farm that does kiddy entertainment and they have miniature donkeys and I saw one of the donkey foals having a right old gallop around. So cute and squidgy - WANT!!! Have to say I grinned so must have looked a right old weirdo to the people on the other side when it eventually stopped being a dual carriageway!!!
