The Weather Thread # 6

From about 10pm last night, the winds had started to pick up and was howling against the house and making it shudder slightly, we're not used to that here!

When I looked out of my window this morning at 2am, the eglu had blown over a bush and was upside down! :o I had to go out and right it, the girls were fine thankfully, although they were covered in Aubiose and the roosting bars had come off! Gonna have to spend today sorting out the house  although, they have laid their eggs early today, perhaps it was the fright!

Nothing compared to what its like for some of you, but its pretty scary when your not used to it!

Very windy here today, and last night. Kept me awake :( Currently watching the fence and the trampoline and wondering which will be off first! It's got really dark again and started raining. The photos of that tree on your chickens house are quite scary Eggasperated. And the cat being blown off the fence! Sorry, can't remember whose it was. Poor thing but *sniggers*

Keep safe everyone

It's stopped raining, but still blowing a gale here - I've had to lock the catflap as it was blowing in and out constantly. I'm working from home today and was hoping to let the girls out over lunchtime, but I'm seriously thinking it's too windy. My bay tree in a pot has blown over, the wheelie bin was over - not seen it this windy for a while. I just hope the fence panels stay put. I've had to replace a couple every year since I moved here, and was hoping not to need any this year.

I have a couple of fence panels flapping around; they belong to the neighbour, so he can deal with it. It is so windy that it literally takes your breath away; I debated driving back to work, but as my car is parked at the bottom of the road (only space left when I came back last night) I decided that I'd probably get just as wet running to the car as running to work

Horrified this morning to get up, look up garden and see the chicken's 12ft x 8ft run flipped over on its back.:shock:

Thankfully the (cube green) was still standing and the chooks safely locked inside so could have been much much worse.

A lot of damage has been done to the run, and all the inside perches broken, cube ladder disappeared...god knows where thats gone!!

We were out at 7am with head torches trying to right it back up which we just about managed to do, as the WIR is sooo heavy. Got to sort out in insides now and somehow repair the damage done. Not a nice way to wake up :?

Was quite calm at chook shutting in time - I was amazed. Got up a little bit now, but nothing compared to how it has been. Was upset today when I walked to the village shop. There is a house with chooks in the garden. They are normally in a make shift run with electric netting over the top. The netting is gone & the make shift run looks trashed. The poor chooks were all scared to come out of their coop. Will give the people a knock tomorrow & ask if they need any help to sort out the chook run. Poor things. :( I always shout hello to their chooks.

I lost one of the run covers in the wind. Have resorted to clear plastic sheeting & bungees on some eglus, but even those were flapping yesterday!

Its so windy here the cable holding the electrisity pole near the house snaped. I phoned the power company and told them it would bring down the stable. They sent out 3 trucks within 4 hours even though they are mad with emergency call outs. They even got the cage out and went up to cut the branches from the other pole. Very impressed and releaved as it is still blowing hard

It was very wild here again this morning. I collected an egg from our wooden house and obviously hadn't bolted the door back on properly because the next thing there was a big bang and the door flew off, the girls didn't let the noise deter then they were stright out for a bit of FR although they didn't like the wind once they were out there.

There were loads of traffic reports about blocked roads locally from fallen trees.
