When I get stressed my hair falls out in patches I need to find a stress relieving solution...before I go bald!! What do you do to deal with stress...I need some good ideas. Chicken watching and cat cuddling help but I cannot take my cats and chickens to work! Thanks
sadietoo
Hi, I go out and walk, and walk and walk...I also knit, and stitch....occasionally I have been known to bake bread and thump merry hell out of it
Sam
Just had an image of you walking into work - cat under one arm and a chicken under the other Cook with music playing, or have a bath with music. Always manages to get me in a good mood
Mrs Webmuppet
To de -stress when not at work I exercise, a good swim or a work out in the gym. In the summer there's sailing or cycling, fresh air works wonders for stress. At work, a brisk walk round the block or failing that hide in the ladies loo and count to fifty! majorbloodnock
A friend of mine once met a Russian pilot, and it appears his job contained a lot of stress. When asked how he dealt with it, he smiled and said, simply, "Wodka".
Gertie
Lovely ideas! So tomorrow I shall be mostly listening to music in the kitchen on my exercise bike, whilst thumping bread dough and drinking vodka!! He he he!
chuckmum6
I go and muck out the chickens or if I'm not feeling too active I sit and watch them for a bit, that always makes me smile - and smiling is good for stress! Clur
I go to church, bake stupid amounts of cakes or have a looooong hot bath. Never fails for me!
Plum
I think about why work is making me stressed and try and deal with the top reasons. If it's overwork I make lists and get rid of the biggest headaches. If it's people then finding someone to talk about the situation helps me and gets things in persepective a bit. When I get home I just cry a bit then talk to chooks or shout at OH or something and feel better. Sometimes just writing down why I am stressed then tearing that bit of paper up helps. Hobbies, chooks and friends help me switch off.
scarlettohara
I buy chickens I can see myself becoming very stressed this year (divorce) so it is good I am having to move - I will need a much bigger garden
Redwing
I drive - in the car you can shout and swear and get rid of the stress I also get rid of the things that make me stressed or learn to avoid them. Some things like work you cant avoid but what you can do is identify what takes up your time and research ways in to making it quicker and easier and you can also identify who saps your time or leans on you too heavily
gongladosh
I read the omlet forums! (but I'm not stressed at the moment)
Space Chick
Work related stresses are hard to combat at the time, bit here are my tips. I have pictures on my desk that make me smile, it's a great stress reliever. I have been able to use my iPad as a digital photo frame in work which is fab. I also tune in and watch the chickens on their webcam when I really need a few moments de-stressing. I vary my desk picture every week, this week I have a photo of a few friends from a camping trip last year, it brings back memories of the trip and makes me giggle
Alis girls
Mmmm Major - drunk in charge of a patient - could be dodgey - dont like wodka sorry vodka anyway
Janty
I'm lucky in that I work with a good friend who is my department technician. I can always sound off to her. When I get home I play my saxophone, watch the chickens, cook (although I've done far too much cooking in the past year so I'm now going to Slimming World ) and do my crafts, photography and artwork. JillM
At the moment I don't have to answer the phone at work so I can plug myself into my iPod for a short while to blow the cobwebs and irritations away. Otherwise it's a brisk and stomping walk to the Ladies so I don't thump anyone And when I get home I can always snuggle up to my snakes - I'm looking forward to the chickens arriving to take my mind off things too
gongladosh
a nice pint of real ale is always good to help me relax! ...Or a cheeky glass of red wine.

Chicken Licken
Go for a run, read a book, cook biscuits or cakes, walk the dog and spend time furtling with the chickens. Sunshine is always good (although there is precious little of that at the moment!)
Saronne
My top de-stressing tips are; 1. Watching the chickens whilst having a cup of tea/coffee. 2. Batch baking or cooking to put in the freezer (makes me feel secure!) 3. Watching comedy 4. Reading - funny novels or quirky news items 5. Shopping (!) 6. Making lists of things I need to do; doing them and then crossing them off the list. 7. Brisk walking (preferably in the countryside- but not necessary) 8. Talking to people about what's causing stress- (you've done that by telling us!) Best wishes... Saronne xx
Gertie
Thanks everyone for sharing your suggestions. I do feel better, less stressed after doing the following... Walking & more walking A bottle of wine Cleaning chickens & chicken watching/cuddling cats Booking a back massage Talking to family & friends Spending time making a plan to address the stress at work Several lavender baths Get things in perspective! I didn't have time to bake, read, drink vodka (not good with wine) or do some shopping so I will have a go with that another time. Here's to a stress free week for us all! docsquid
I love chicken-watching when I'm at home - if I'm feeling wound up I can't stay that way for long, watching my girls and their daft antics. However the favourite of all is to take a walk down to our wildlife site, walk around looking at the trees, birds, and scenery. Then get a chair out of our barn, sit down by our ponds looking across the clearing to the trees, get a nice hot drink and sit and watch the birds on the feeders, the insects and dragonflies, and just take in the rural scene. It is perfect.

Valkyrie
Yesterday I had the house to myself (tonic as it is!), put the CD's on and started off with a singalong to ELO, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac and then any other thing I could think of. Volume up high (not advisable if you are attached to neighbours) and whoosh, housework just becomes a piece of cake and the washing and ironing is done before you know it. Then had enough time to sit and chill out with my quilting which I have neglected for quite a few months. A jolly good singalong clears the cobwebs - a little bit of dancing is good. Head banging I would say no to as I have a stiff neck this morning! And a nice long bath helps relax you too. Do all my deep thinking with my head under the water and my nose sticking out. Good job I have a huge bath. If you are near the sea (we are about an hour drive away) then a walk along the beach is lovely - whether the waves are crashing or lapping it has a very calming effect.
