Other Forums - who likes what?

Recommended Posts

Prompted by the thread on 'Old forum members "dying off" ' I've been wondering what other forums Omlet members participate in. I've tried one or two but have only ever got along with Omlet - either because the forums were less than lively (Silkie forum), or because I couldn't quite get on with the way they sort out areas (Practical Poultry) or because Facebook groups that I belong to answer the need to compare notes (various dog forums).

To be honest... I get bored with forums really quickly, and am often in trouble on them anyway. I am surprisingly well behaved on this one for some reason, but I think it's out of respect for the chickens. *grin*

I have been known to use music forums (one I am now banned from, and the others I don't bother with now... it's a long story,,, honest), and a bass forum also, but find that some people are often just full of their own self importance rather than sound advice, and any information regarding luthier issues just plain dangerous in terms of looking after an instrument.

There are of course, some people who do offer good advice, or a reluctance to offer any at all, if they aren't fully aware of the nature of the problem etc... which I prefer.

I use Facebook to spit vitriol at the world. It's such a horrible environment.

My OH would agree with you about the music forums. Every time he complains that I am nose down on the Omlet forum, I say 'why don't you use a music forum ?' as his hobby is Hi Fi (a whole lot more expensive than chickens by the way - but there lies another story  ). He just shruggs and says something about them all being . . . (words not for this nice Omlet forum  )

I used to mock my dh because when setting up his old computer he was forever on computer geek forums, I used to ask if he'd been chatting with his 'cyber pals' it seems I have plenty now! I definately don't do twitter, but am on Facebook but only have 5 friends! I am on an alternative identity partly as I have a lot of young types working for me and i really don't want to see their posts about work in case they say something they shouldn't  and I had a very odd ex boyfriend cyber stalker who tried to contact me via my sisters facebook page pretending to be an old friend from school!

This is my only forum though!

This was my first forum and I've looked at others but not been tempted. I do enjoy Twitter because I can engage with people about subjects that don't sit comfortably on here, I try not to bang on about police and army but sometimes it seeps out. I do occasionally get 'shouted' at by smug activists on Twitter but I've learnt how to deal with them.

Very sad fact coming up -- when I wake up in the morning I first check my emails to see if ES has said hello, then I check omlet, then Twitter.

For me it's a good combo.

This one mainly. I used to dip into Home Farmer, but not anymore. River Cottage sometimes I dip into & Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert - some of the offers are fab. We saved a lot on a Pure radio recently.

I've joined the British Kune Kune Society & they have a forum & members area, so I expect I'll be on there.

I used to frequent River Cottage and an offshoot which wa ssimilar but smaller - I've given up RC due to all the changes they made and the nasty remarks, the smaller version became too cliquey and I can't be bothered.

The beekeeping forum is used under duress - far too scary to ask questions.....

I do use a felt making forum and one on EDS as EDS is little known, especially among doctors and we need all the info we can find so that we can help my dranddaughter. Both these two have a friendly and helpful feel.

This is the only one which feels friendly enough to chat on - but that may be because I've been here forever

This is my main one. I was on Curvy Riders (female motorcyclists) for a little while but as I am 'just' a pillion I felt I didn't really fit in. It was quite good for gleaning some information though.

I joined Menopause Matters to get info but it just thoroughly depressed me. My hubby said I should stop reading it as I will end up with all the symptoms

I used to be on the Good Housekeeping forum and loved it, it was friendly and had many interesting threads and facts but they changed it to encompass a lot of other magazines too and I and other forum users lost interest in it.

I've been on dog and cat forums but again I haven't found any that were as friendly as this one.

I like reading Digital Spy (very useful when Strictly is on as you can find out who has gone out either late Saturday or early Sunday morning). I did join to post a few comments but have completely lost my username and password  so I shall just be a digital spy on the forum now!

I only ever go on this forum. I love it! It is so friendly and the mods do a great job :D

I have learnt lots and have also laughed and cried at many posts.

I am always saying 'On Omlet...blah blah blah ' My family find it hilarious, especially since I plucked up the courage recently to join and actually post myself. I read other people's posts for about three years before joining myself  . DS advised re posting of pics so I am well away. I come on here most days, a few times probably if I am being honest. I am becoming less shy about posting (I am quite a shy person) and have even given advice!!! xx

Love the idea of a menopause forum you could really vent on there

I also belong to The Quilt Show forum which is great, friendly, helpful and fun and no mods  The only time I've seen it get nasty was discussing Obama. :?

I love Omlet though :D

I've visited a few other forums in the past, but this one was the first one I joined and it is certainly the friendliest, and also the one with the broadest amount of knowledge amongst members I think :D

I also don't do facebook or twitter, although I have a twitter account linked to my blog. I think I was following a few folk on twitter but haven't checked for many months, so not sure if I have any followers, might have to go and check!

I work in a large office so during the day get plenty of interaction with people, including a couple of good friends, and when I get home I like peace and quiet. A quick dip into Omlet is usually enough for me!

I am only on here and UKcampsite which is very helpful as we are relatively new campers and very new to a caravan. I know other members of Omlet are also on there as it came up in conversation recently and Omlet was recommended to a new chicken keeper.

I find Omlet the friendliest and am sometimes surprised at the posts on UKcampsite in comparison. Its hard to put into words, but replies on here are more tempered, thought out and reasoned. Even if someone has an opposite view it will be given nicely. I dont recall seeing someone on here get offended or take a reply very personally.

Maybe chicken keeping (or Omlet) attracts a better class of user and I've also noticed from a recent topic that they often have curly hair
