Daphne
I have just discovered somebody selling fertile poland eggs in Portugal. Definitely worth the 4 hour round trip I have also just bought 7 mirrors in a local UK auction for £15, including a full length mirror and a large wall mirror
chickencam
Sounds like a successful day I am gradually ticking off the pre Christmas jobs, have three days off in a row this week, so tackling my grubby house now too.

Alis girls
Went to Panto with my OH's work the other day. They took 25 old people to see Cinders in Rickmansworth. Very good. We sat at the back and were alarmed to see the Wugly sisters - 2 blokes in drag heading up the ailse looking for a man. OH who was at the end of the row started to slither down in his seat. I was relived when they picked on a teacher (a dishy guy) with a load of school kids to annoy. We have a Greek name and it wouldve been a nightmare to explain that one. Got em all home ok. They loved it - a lot of saucy banter from them and the women are worse - flirting with my husband - one lady said to him " I dont mind you putting on my belt" - OH wasnt keen on that - bit like Harry Enfields naughty old ladies. Alis girls
You know when your teenager has Shakespeare overload when you hear his dulcet tones saying "mum come hither and look at my verruca" When he starts calling me wench I will call men in white coats. Hes doing Macbeth - not the most cheerful of the bards plays. I'll give him "come hithe" r indeed
Ain't Nobody Here
How does a fairly large kerbside bin disappear completely ? Put our landfill bin out on Wednesday night (complete with a stripy ribbon round the handle for identification and our house number tippexed inside the lid. It's now vanished . We keep peering up people's driveways as we walk past but no sign of it yet . We'll be watching out on the next bin day with interest . chickencam
Strange think to steal although we kept ordering an extra recycling box over a period of about 6 months to no avail. It arrived just after the floozy next door moved out. We then noticed a stack of about 8 boxes down the side of their house.
mullethunter
Had to go to the Isles of Scilly for work this week. I'm sure it's amazing in the summer but I'd highly recommend it at this time of year. Empty! Just be prepared not to be able to fly in and out on the days / times you had booked
chickencam
My OH and I went in September about 25 years ago and it was beautiful, we were the only ones on the flight out, along with the pilot and a load of mail bags at 7am.
Daphne
I've just discovered that Dave Scrivener, a man who wrote reference books on rare breeds of poultry, was a show judge, kept Spanish, and was an all round knowledgeable guy, died back in the summer I only knew him electronically, but we'd been in touch for about 5 years now on and off, about a variety of things, some to do with poultry and some not, and I feel very sad that he is no longer around, as well as a bit shocked
Lewis
Yes, sad news about David Scrivener. I think I was with chicken friends at Gardeners' World Live when we found out and everybody was shocked. He was really helpful with the production of the book we were promoting at the show and was planning things with the RPS standards so a terrible loss. Was my birthday on Friday (24!) and had a great day. We had a Small Mammals exam in the afternoon but booked a class meal afterwards and then hired a bar for the end of term so it was full of vets and medics which was really nice
Daphne
I hope you had a great time Lewis I'm off to a festive drinks do in a few hours - it will also be full of vets, not sure if I will be coming home in one piece!
Ain't Nobody Here
How did the small mammals get on in their exam, Lewis? I hope they'd revised enough .

Alis girls
Duvet wars - anyone else have this. OH gets out at night and chucks his bit of duvet off and a draught wakes me up. I slide out when I get out and dont disturb him. Then just as I'm warm - yank - the duvet gets pulled roughly over to his side. Then he wrestles 6 bells out of his pillows. Its like sharing a bed with Tyson. I am toying with having single duvets - but I know he'd reach over and grab mine by accident. He thinks its funny when I winge at him. Cat tails
Poor you! I only share a bed with my cat and she hugs my pillow. Maybe OH would benefit (and you too of course) from a ergonomic pillow with memory foam. I have one of Ikea and love it. Used to toss and turn a lot, but no more with this pillow. chickencam
Separate rooms not duvets is what you need, OH starts off in our bed each night but he only usually sleeps for 20-30 minutes then wakes up again, he then heads off to either of the two older kid's room when they are away. ED has pretty much moved out and DS is away for long periods at uni. Christmas will be tough for us, he likes the radio on at night I hate it, but we have muddled along for 23 years
Geoid
I was changing a lightbulb earlier, the glass broke off leaving just the metal part in the light fitting. Since it had two switches, I couldn't tell if it was live or not. Went to touch it.. BANG and the power being cut to the whole house! Luckily I decided to wear a rubber (insulator) glove before hand. Once I had turned the power back on, the glove had massive black scorch marks all over it. Yet I was fine, luckily.
chickencam
Good job that you had the glove on I also had fun changing a light bulb today, changed it still didn't work, realised it might be the fuse, found the fuse and battery tester checked the fuse, as suspected it was dead. There is a compartment in the fuse tester for new fuses which has a slide off lid, could I slide it off,ohh no! Some time later and a near miss with a screw driver I was in, fuse replaced hey presto the lamp worked. All in all with finding a bulb the whole process took nearly half an hour
bluekarin
That was lucky! Reminds me of when a lamp fell over a few years ago and the fitting came apart. I checked with my daughter that the light was unplugged. Yes she said. Are you sure? Yes, she assured me. So I started screwing in the light fitting and though why does my arm feel odd all the way up to my elbow? I was only having an electric shock as she had unplugged one plug, just not the right one! My arm felt odd for days afterwards I managed to throw the light away from me so it didnt get any worse, but it has made me more wary of things electrical.
