Luvachicken
Thinking of the post about Marmite, I just wondered if anyone else is pestered by wind chimes like me ? Personally, I can't stand them. The people over the back of me have one that sounds like tinkly china cups, next door but one has one that sounds like morse code through water pipes and another neighbour has one that sounds like church organ pipes clanking together. They drive me mad with their irritating racket especially on a day like today where it is very windy so they make even more noise than normal. Is it just me ? Grandmashazzie
Hi ,they are nice to look at in a shop but if I was surrounded by neighbours wind chimes it would drive me mad. My mum bought one and hung it on the branches that marked my dads ashs. My sister and I used to laugh and say my mum is still driving my dad mad and he's dead. Ursula123
My neighbour used to have one and it was like torture, not sure where it went
Olly
Another hater here - used to have a neighbour who had them. It's just a really annoying jangly noise - does nothing for me.
Cat tails
My neighbour used to have one and it was like torture, not sure where it went My previous upstairs neighbours had some bag hanging on their balcony railing, which clanged.... Luckily I have pear plucking stick thing. Very long. Lets just say that the bag went away...
soapdragon
We have a set of very large ones INDOORS! The boys call them 'the bonglies' as that is the noise they make but WE choose when to 'activate' them. I admit that I'd be driven mad by other peoples......another form of noise pollution
Alis girls
I've got some outside front door. I quite like them. I feel the evil looks
gavclojak
Hate them! As some of you will and do have them I won't go any further
Bramble
I quite like them, but wouldn't have them myself (outside, anyway) because I'm aware others don't feel the same. I went to a funeral once where part of the eulogy contained a posthumous confession from the deceased to "sabotaging" his neighbours' windchimes with his secateurs!!! Valkyrie
Some are nice but a relation bought us some to hang outside. They hung outside for one night and I have no idea where we threw them. I mean put them safe from being weathered. Never again! I prefer the trickle of water though - outside, not dripping tap indoors!
mullethunter
I wouldn't mind them if you could switch them off
Plum
Well no one appreciates mine which are nice and deep and resonant so they end up tied together most of the time
soapdragon
Well no one appreciates mine which are nice and deep and resonant so they end up tied together most of the time Sounds like mine - the bonglies - ... which hang in the kitchen so that I can swoosh them as I feel the need! I far prefer these to the tinkly, high pitched ones that just sound irritating to me. I find it ironic that something that is supposed to be Zen and calming probably winds up more people than it soothes!
Luvachicken
I really did think it was just going to be me I saw some today and now know what makes the morse code through a water pipe noise - giant bamboo poles They were at a local garden centre - loads of them - they need planning permission for something that size And of course it's been windy again today. chickencam
My OH quite likes them, I'm not keen. We had some when we moved in but the woman next door complained and we took them down. We live by a main road so the water feature in our small pond is a nice distraction.
Egluntyne
Very annoying.
newcountrygirl
I have just brought back some chimes from my MIL's. There is method in my madness however. I have hung them up and hope the noise from them will distract the neighbour from the fact we have just acquired a new cockerel! He doe have quite a low, crow and sounds like he has a sore throat - lol, but he isnt too noisy.
Cinnamon
I quite like them, but they have to be exactly the right tone as to not drive me mad. I will happily admit to hanging a couple right at the very end of my garden in the UK where I couldn't hear them but the neighbours who had a little vendetta against us could I prefer my wind spinners, which are hypnotic to look at. They are like a big twist of wooden dowels, which rotate in the wind...and they are completely silent
Daphne
I have enjoyed this thread for Egluntyne's comment and the fact you all have reminded me that we own some of those huge wind chimes like Soapdragon's which used to hang from a rafter indoors, much to the amusement of small children standing on chairs, and the horror of their parents However, I had completely forgotten about them till reading this thread; I haven't seen them for 4 years, I wonder where they are. AndyRoo
I like them. In a subtle summer breeze, they're quite nice, and my neighbour has one of those wooden ones. The only time I find the noise to be an issue is if there is a high wind, in which case it just sounds like bits of wood crashing together which can be a grating. Luvachicken
They drive me nuts (along with ticking clocks) Yes, I hate ticking clocks too I think it comes from being bored at old relatives houses and all you could hear was the clocks ticking, very, very slowly
AndyRoo
They drive me nuts (along with ticking clocks) Oh, see, now I *love* a good grandfather clock, or a cuckoo clock. I am trying to persuade the OH to let me buy one once we re-do the house.
