Snow

Brrrrrrrrrr

I have spent all day snow & wind proofing the wir. My girls are lovely & toaste & pampered now! Bought another Tarporflex & enclosed the run all the way round, top to bottom...............if they dont lay an egg for me one day I am going to take up eating meat again & chicken is top of the list!!

Moved bunnie into the greenhouse for the winter. She normally free ranges in the garden during the day so at least she can have lots of room to bounce about.

We use a fan heater to keep the temp just above freezing,it comes on & off thermostaticly. She likes to sit with her nose near it when it comes on! She is snuggled ina huge pile of hay.

My hubbie & friends are due to drive up to the NEC Birmingham on Sat for the bike show. ( we live near Stansted airport.) Hows the motorways looking at the moment? I think they are mad but they have bought the tickets!

I would love to hear an update if there is a problem .

Keep warm everyone.

No new snow overnight here, but the old snow is still crisp and looks as new  At 7.15am it was minus 8 by the back door, chickens were warm enough in the Eglu though :D I'm going to pop to the local shops this morning, but noticed yesterday that the canal was frozen and snow covered, although apparantly some local children had been walking on it

No new snow for us either. Bitterly cold last night -17c at 10pm.

Woke up this morning to frozen pipes. -8c at 6am, it is now -10c :? I can see patches of blue sky and the sun shone for a few minutes.

DD's school bus did not turn up. She waited 35 minutes and then phoned me, I told her to come home as it is far too cold for her to be standing around. DS has driven her in after I contacted the school to make sure the buses were running and she would be able to get home again.

I have taken a day off work :D:D

Fed up of snow and freezing temperatures :( I am seriously thinking about moving back down South, I am a southern softie at heart and cannot cope with the weather up here :(

Didn't feel that cold when I went outside, although predicted high today of minus 2. Certainly does not feel like it. Very grey sky but clear. Yesterday where I cleared the path and steps has dried out so not slippery. Not snowed since yesterday thankfully, but supposedly severe restrictions on the railway although the boy has gone into work. We are more worried about getting him home. OK, I am more worried about him getting home. Roads apparently are clear except for the side roads. I have deja vu here - if that's the case then why don't they start sorting out the side roads - they know the trouble spots and yet we are stuck at the top of the hill again. You'd think that 3rd time we would be lucky (in less that one year - we still have a couple of weeks till the anniversary of the first snowfall and we were blocked in).

And still no sign of the chickens - well a brief glimpse as they ventured out for brekkers and ran back inside the run!

-5 at 8.00 am today, but the sun is out and instead of grey skies of the past 3 days its a brilliant blue again. It really does look like a winter wonderland now! I was wrong about Gatwick, it is open. I think the major roads must be clear as we can see our road, although first thing there must have been ice - even the coast was way below freezing.

WOW - thats something you just don't see very often in our part of the world, what a great picture 8)

My uncle lives across the road from the beach at West Wittering and I'd love to be there right now. I've seen the sea in all its phases and rages there, but I've never seen snow. Something to treasure!

We had a call from DS this morning. He was just checking we are alright, what with the cold and snow and so on. Wasn't that nice? :D

Hang on! Does that mean he thinks we're old? I've a good mind to drive over to see him and show him I'm not old. But I can't remember where I left the car keys.

Has been snowing heavily for the past hour and it is windy now as well. The temperature has risen to 0c so hopefully the pipes will begin to thaw.

I was feeling down this morning but I have just found a whole packet of chocolate digestives :D so I am going to put my feet up and rest my left knee which is 3 times bigger than the right one :( and eat and watch TV :P

My youngest, who is a tall skinny this & feels the cold, has to go to the Henley Christmas market to night & stand at a stall for 2 hours selling bits & pieces.

According to Metcheck its going to be -6,feeling-11 in the wind. Its already -3 here now.

Now,this sounds like a truly daft idea to me,making the children do this & making us parents drive on the icy roads in such conditions...what do you all think?

My son is supposed to drive to Sheffield today (from Herts) to say with a uni friend, I've tried to explain how bad it is there. What are his chances of making it via the M1? Nil i should think

Only just clocked this ...

Main roads clear in Sheffield. Side roads impossible. Pavements piled high with snow. M1 OK at the mo.

Weather very sunny but bitterly cold, with probability of black ice etc later, when the thawed out snow re-freezes.

TBh if I were him I wouldn't risk it.

It's thawing a bit here. I just looked on Accuweather and it said "dense fog, minus 4 degrees". I would beg to differ - not even slightly misty. We even had a very pale appearance of the sun a short while ago and as for a minus 4 figure, well, not according to the drips running down my car.
