Do you remember the first record you owned?

Recommended Posts

Ok, well this will take a few people back. I remember having a small record player when I was little and the record with it was "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Bear",(I still remember the lyrics ) hopefully someone else will confirm that this was an actual record and not me sinking into madness. A lot later I bought for myself, Ernie (the fastest milkman in the west)

First record bought for me was when I was 3 - Joe Brown's - Sally Ann

First record I bought was Paperlace - Billy Don't be a Hero - I remember playing it over and over and writing the lyrics down.

Also remember holding a microphone in front of the radio on a sunday to record the charts  And getting really annoyed if my mum came into the room talking over the radio

Good Times :D

Between 7 and 15 I lived in South Africa in the days of Apartheid, no TV at all and State- controlled radio. My friends and I used to tune into Radio Lourenço Marques in neighbouring Mozambique which use to do the UK chart rundown and we would attempt to record it as it constantly broke up so that we could work out song names and lyrics. Happy Days :)

First record ever bought was on a trip to the Uk in 1973- Band on the Run- Wings.

I still have my Pinky and Perky collection on 78 in vinyl :oops:

LolaLayla if you are have sunk into madness so have I :D:D

I remember that too, a small plastic record player, I had two records for it but I can't remember the other one but one was Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Bear :lol: . My Aunty Betty and Uncle Donald bought it for me for birthday or Christmas I'm not sure which. Until you posted I had forgotten all about it.

Ah, recording Top of the Pops - what memories that brings back! The first record I owned was a birthday present from my sister - probably 1972? It was 'All the Fun of the Fair' by David Essex. I can't remember the first one I bought myself.

I do remember my first CD! I left all my vinyl behind when I got divorced, CDs had only been around a couple of years. I bought a stereo with a CD player and was so hard up I could only afford one - it was The Commitments soundtrack. Then I joined Britannia Music and accidentally bought loads more!

I still have my tapes too  and we used to buy smash hits (I think it was called ) so we could sing along - oh my this brings back memories - I feel sooooo old - I remember all those hits mentioned except Pinky and Perky - suspect I was a deprived child. My mum loved Jim Reeves and Tom Jones and she had Lulu's these boots - oh felt so grown up wailing along to that. Not the same downloading is it?

My Dad loved Jim Reeves and always played it at the weekends. No wonder I suffer from low moods..... Actually I quite like the odd song but it really is a bit gloomy. My brother even bought one of his cds and his children always shout at him when he puts it on!

I absolutely love the White Horses theme tune, they played it on the radio the other day. It takes me straight back to my childhood. Might have a look on iTunes. :D

yes I have many a tape with mum;'s voice on it on a Sunday night as I desparately tried to tape Bay City Rollers or similar saying "what do you want for tea?"

we used to sing on the school bus

"B-A-Y, B-A-Y B-A-Y C-I-T-Y

WITH AN R-O-L-L-E-R-S

BAY CITY ROLLERS ARE THE BEST"

Yeah ok I am sad - I was a deprived child as I wasnt allowed to ruin a pair of jeans with tartan hems - my mother said I wasnt having a tartan scarf either. Oh the pain - boy - does anyone else feel old?

I was singing the above to my sons recently after we saw Bay city rollers on something - their faces said it all SADO
