chickencam
I finally defrosted my freezer last night, I don't think that it has been done for about 2 years
The Dogmother
I know the feeling, my folks used to have a big chest freezer and it was always my job to defrost it... I hated that. I have a 3-drawer frost free one under the kitchen fridge, and another 3-drawer under counter one (from Freecycle) in the utility room for the dog meat and bones; the latter could really do with defrosting too. I am tempted to run the contents down in the hope of a hot day when I can drag it outside to defrost on the patio.
Alis girls
When we first moved here the owners had left a whirly washing line ( s'spose to go round in wind but dont) - I was pleased as I'd always wanted one. It was old but functionable and 6 yrs of drying washing continued. Sadly it fell apart - have not got a new one which OH and brother put up - at a slight angle. Looks like leaning tower of Pisa in washing lines. My OH recekoned he would dig a hole and cement it in - I have a better use for a dug hole men honestly
bluekarin
It took 3 attempts to have our whirly gig washing line upright. We have awful ground - very chalky and flinty so hard to dig. At one point, it was leaning so much that the washing would just fall where it was heaviest to the lowest point and not actually be able to whirl around to dry
Alis girls
I wont tell him that Bluekarin. if someone told me 20yrs ago i would be excited at a new washing line I would have called men in white coats
Looney
Morning all! Well the sun is shining and I have a day off work and two small children to keep amused! Son (age 4) is the Master of Grumps at the moment and daughter (19 months) is Champion of Tantrums so I have my work cut out Sure we'll have a fun day though Friend's baby was allowed home (hurrah!) but then had to be readmitted last night, not sure why yet. P.S. I got very excited when we got a new washing line - and it's not even a whirlygig spinny-round one!

I hope it is nothing too serious, what a worrying time for them, so sad when this is a time of such joy for most new parents, best wishes to them. Looney
Took my children to a 4th birthday party today. As we were walking past the primary school I saw a lady walking her two dogs (off the lead). She paid no attention to them as they both squatted and pooed on the grass, in fact she wasn't watching them at all. School children play on this grass I politely called across "excuse me" a couple of times - she ignored me (or didn't hear, though I was quite loud). So I pushed the pushchair around so I was in her line of sight and said "excuse me, your dogs have just pooed on the grass over there". She totally blanked me. I tried again and pointed out that children play on that grass, there are dog poo bins every few hundred metres etc. She totally ignored me. Looked through me and carried on walking Well, I was totally gobsmacked! If it hadn't been ridiculously hot (about 30 degrees) and if I hadn't had my children with me I think I would have given her a proper piece of my mind. It's people like her that give dog owners a bad name. If she walks her dogs twice a day and let's them use the grass as a toilet each time that's an awful lot of poo.... The Dogmother
Loon, if she regularly walks there at roughly the same time each day then phone up your local dog warden (district council) and report her with a description of her and the dog/s; she'll be in for a nasty surprise! I reported some oiks who habitually let their 'weapon dog' foul our street, one time they did it as I was leaving the house and it was right outside so I handed them a poo bag and watched while they got on with it. I reported them as they passed by at the same time every day, and had the satisfaction of seeing them be nabbed and issued with a fine when they reached the bottom of the road. Looney
Oooh, I love that they got caught and fined hehehe! It hadn't occurred to me about dog wardens! I don't often walk that route, though I have friends that live almost opposite so I might mention it to them when I next see them. Plus as Bogwoppit is starting school next month I may see the disgusting dog owner again. Good advice, thank you
The Dogmother
No worries Loon, they actually encourage you to report it as they take a very dim view. I'd be inclined to (very carefully) get a photo of her doing this and email it to them.
Lavenders_Blue
Oooh this makes me so cross! There isn't a single dog owner out there that actually enjoys picking up dog poo, but it's part and parcel of owning a dog. If you find it that disgusting, then don't own a dog We have the same problem on our village playing field - plenty of dog poo bins but also plenty of dog poo Never caught anyone 'in the act' but they'd certainly get a piece of my mind if I did! chickencam
Had fun this lunchtime, DS opened the fridge to get something out and the door fell off, the hinge bracket had sheered off. It has done this before and we swapped the brackets around and OH said that we must get another bracket in case it happened again. I can't find out what model number the fridge is so I haven't done anything about it for the past couple of years. I envisaged what would be said when I told him, he finishes work today for the next week and a half and is very busy and stressed, we are also going away for a week on Friday. I thought well I can't leave the fridge with no door, so DS and I had a good look at it and remembered that the door was reversable and because of this there is a hole in each of the brackets that is intact and unused so we have managed between us to reverse the opening direction of the door and it is now as good as new It will confuse OH no end when he gets home but emergency averted, I feel very proud. It is not as convenient the way it opens now, but it will last for a while and we still have one more hole in the other bracket if needs must. It is a tall larder fridge and must be at least 15 years old, so really we need a new one, but at least this can wait until we get home. I didn't need any extra stress this week with getting ready to go away, working from home and waiting for DS's GCSE results tomorrow. The Dogmother
Well done Liz, as you say, not ideal but it'll do until you can sort something better don't you just get those days when everything falls apart , drops or wears out?
Geoid
Went to the GP (yet again) about my eczema, he had one look at it and referred me straight to a dermatologist.
Looney
Great thinking chickencam, hope the door lasts a while longer yet And hope GCSE results day goes well, the wait is nearly over!! Fred - how long will you have to wait for an appointment? Hope you get some treatment that helps. I was discussing eczema the other day with my friend as her toddler has it and they had to wait for weeks for an appointment at the specialist clinic. (I realise you're not a toddler ) My friend's baby is home Still waiting for confirmed diagnosis but they have been told it is likely she has at least a couple of syndromes / disorders. One to do with an inability to breakdown complex fatty acids. So pleased she's finally home though
Ain't Nobody Here
That's great she's home . I hope the syndromes don't turn out to be too challenging .
The Dogmother
That's great she's home . I hope the syndromes don't turn out to be too challenging . Ditto Rosie came back from her run having tripped and skidded across some tarmac; she has one knee with a slight graze, one with a nasty graze 1" by 2", and an elbow with several gashes and a massive bruise she is very accident prone. Bathed it all with diluted Hibiscrub, smeared it with Hyper-Cal ointment and dressed the lot. She's dosed up with Arnica and gone to bed.... and she wonders why I'm not too keen on her playing rugby
Looney
Thanks. I was in tears a few days ago when she texted me, she sounded so sad and was feeling so guilty, blaming herself (totally irrational of course). The last text was more positive and she has started to accept things will be tough but is feeling stronger about it all. I do know that littl'un is at risk of coma / death if she isn't fed at regular intervals with special milk. She's a little cutie though Ouch! Poor Rosie, good thing she's got Mum on call to patch her up
bluekarin
My ED walked the whole way to her school this morning to collect her first lot of GCSE results. Might not seem like much, but those who know about her condition know that this time last year she was crawling everywhere in the house and could only get about outside in a wheelchair. Very, very proud of her today
