Olly
I've just cleaned the inside of the car, a job I loathe and don't do very often. Amongst the accumulated dried grass, leaves, grit and biscuit crumbs (blame a visiting child, I definitely don't eat biscuits in the back seat!) I also found: a single clip-on ear-ring (not mine), a tent peg, an egg-box, some conkers, a small ornamental bottle of sangria (a present from Spain), two paperback books that I have no recollection of acquiring, several water bottles, an in-car charger for something I don't recognise, a waterproof jacket that I'd forgotten I owned and some foam 'rockets', to be fired with an air pump which has long gone. I now have a 'sensible' box in the booth with the electric tyre pump, spare bulb, high-vis vest, snow shovel, rock salt, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher and walking boots. They take up a lot less room now. It made me curious - if you turned out your car, what would you find? And what do you always keep in your car? Cat tails
Don't have a car but also have a sort of carpet forming in my motorcycle top box... It mostly consists of receipts for gas, empty plastic bags and the mandatory unidentifiable bits and pieces. Strangest might be a number of socks. I always bring a pair of dry socks, in the case I get drenched on my way somewhere, but mostly forget about them. Now I have a few singles in there and I can't remember if they are actually clean or not... Can't be too clean with all the unidentifiable bits and pieces... bluekarin
My hubby's car will contain lots of receipts, some empty sweet packets, sweet wrappers with chewed gum in them which is better than he used to be as he used to just put it in his door pocket double We did have one of the legs from an old garden swing seat that went to the tip, but that bit got forgotten. Pound coin for the trolley at Lidls as their trollies don't fit the token from Sainsburys for some reason a map and sat nav, wind up torch, and a small spirit level keyring
patsylabrador
We literally have the kitchen sink. OH keeps the camper spotless and smelling beautiful. Never any rubbish. It's his baby (I call the bike the third woman in our marriage). The cupboards are full of cooking stuff, emergency overnight toiletries, atlases and other fun stuff. I keep waterproofs and boots in the back and torches and first aid kit and other useful stuff just in case. In case of what I'm not sure, a sudden zombie apocalypse maybe. Valkyrie
I have my trusty big map, a high vis jacket, a breakdown triangle, a first aid kit, a few CD's, tissues, a squeegie thing, Softmints, and numerous cards in a wallet for the NT and English Heritage memberships and my AA membership, service record and handbook, a couple of plastic bags to put my rubbish in tucked under the seat and the boot is protected by an old curtain. I think I left my brolly in there from shopping last week. Oooh and a Leatherman Wave and some tyre nuts and bolt things (not sure why as I'd have to get the AA out for a puncture - just can't undo those things even if I jump up and down on the spanner, used to be able to though). Ahhh yes, pens, pencils and paper.
Alis girls
A bike carrier, loads of bags for life, the sat nav box - various empty plastic bottles and crisp packets (not me) and a manky sock
Lewis
I've tried to keep my new car pretty clean but the old Polo was full of junk! I cleared him out before he was sold and found a purple iPod of unknown origin, several pairs of headphones, keys from my old Uni house, mountains of CD's, lots of plastic cutlery, festival and agric show car park passes going back to 2012, sample bottles of LifeGuard, scalpels and needles (sterile not used ) I assume from Lambing and loads more junk. Lavenders_Blue
My car mostly contains mud, mud, straw, leaves, twigs, grit and more mud, all accumulated from various dog walks. I do Hoover it out periodically and it looks lovely for about 2 days until the mud starts accumulating again
Egluntyne
A sack of layers pellets and four pillows. Among other things!

The Dogmother
Phil accuses me of having a car which looks like an agricultural vehicle inside Ummm, well you did ask.... SatNav, tissues, cartons of Ribena, Aldi mints, latex gloves human and dog first aid kits, wet wipes, notebook, various pens, transmitter so that Rosie can play her iPod through the stereo, bits of hay and straw, dog towels, various brollies, ice s"Ooops, word censored!"er, 2 pairs of wellies, waterproof socks, lots of loose dog treats, blankets, lots of mud de-icer, LED torch, sticks for when I am beating on shoots, car box with foot pump, safety triangle, engine oil, anti-freeze, spanners, mole grips, car jack. Dog box with various muddy towels, deodorising wipes (for when they roll in poo) rabbit paunching knife, vet wrap, dog coats. Lots more dried mud, dog guard, dog blankets, carrier bags, non-spill dog bowl, water for dogs. See what I mean? I can rarely get to park outside my house, let alone near enough to clean it out, so I take the essentials out and wash all the blankets, then take it down the road where some lovely Lithuanians wash and clean it inside and out for £15... BARGAIN!!!
Lavenders_Blue
Our local hand car wash is £10 for cleaning inside and outside. Last time I took my car to be washed there I was so embarrassed about the state of the car that I tipped them a few quid extra. I'm sure they have seen worse, but £10 just seems ridiculously cheap to me!

The Dogmother
Yes, some of my mud comes from Rosie's cross country runs, and her road bike
Bramble
Well this thread makes me feel a bit better about the appalling state of my car, it contains: Layers of sand/soil/dust; Various bottles of water/soft drinks; Lip balm; Seeds (!) gavclojak
A Dior lipstick......that's it, nothing else apart from the safety box in the boot, which I assume has everything I would need should I break down??? I really must have a look at what's inside said box!
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm surprised there's room for a driver in some of your cars .
chickencam
My boots usually has a variety of items on route to the charity shop, or recycling. Unfortunately I tend to forget that they are there so my OH tells me off when we need to put something large in there and moans about lack of fuel economy. Groovychook
Does anyone else have a Magic Purse? Mine has a fiver in it and change for parking. Yes! We have a communal 'parking pouch'. OH puts all his loose change in it - and I secretly plunder it for unrelated 'non parking' purposes
chickencam
I have a couple of pound coins, which used to be for supermarket trolleys but now our local Morrisons has gone back to free trolleys. I do like having a little money in the car though just in case.... My coat pockets are the same, I end up poor n the summer

I really must have a look at what's inside said box! Haha, I like your style! I'm relieved to know that I'm not alone in allowing so many random objects to collect in the car. I'm also gaining inspiration - I like the idea of having a rubbish bag, to stem the flow of receipts, sweet wrappers etc, and I love the idea of a 'Magic Purse' - I'm going to get one of those set up! I might even get round to cleaning the outside of the car one day ....
Daphne
I lent my car to my brother for a few weeks, but when my Mother saw it she got it valeted 'I'm not having a grandchild of mine riding round in that, you don't know what they might catch' I also have 2 friends who make pointed comments every time they get in it 'When are you going to get this cleaned?' This has been going on for about 10 years I am very pleased to read I am not in the minority in my receipts/tissues/parking tickets/straw/maps/bags/empty water bottles/corkscrew/insulation tape/giant marbles/squeejie for windows/spare pair of shoes/pump/dust/money/accumulated mud/leaves/stones type vehicle Respect to Gavclojak
