Lesley
Hello! I would love a cattle prod - but not to use on the cows The cows are fine - just a bit feisty - we're dreading having to load them ready for the abattoir...... and then unloading them at the other end Also, cost of feed is sky high and it is expensive to supplement the grass with organic concentrates and hay. Hopefully, the grass will be better soon, now that it is Spring. The 5 remaining ex-batts are settling in well - they are still contained in the 9' x 12' run area but we will clip their wings and let them out into the full length run today, so they will see grass for the first time. I think we may have a bit of an egg-eating problem with them so hopefully having access to a larger run and grass may sort them out.

Lesley
Good job you don't have to use it too often then! We went into the covered run with the rescue girls yesterday, clipped their wings and released them one at a time into the open run.............as we were doing the last one, I noticed the first one was out by the rabbits I'd forgotten that we've moved the quail aviary to make a concrete base........... the back of their aviary forms the side of the chicken run.......... it was completely open to the area where all the Eglus are and they were all having a good nosey around We had to round them up and put them back in the pen. They won't be able to go out until we've moved the quail back and secured the edges of the aviary/runarea. I just wish the weather was nicer We could get so much more done...... Christian
It's amazing how quickly they learn to escape isn't it Lesley? Mine often scoot through my legs when I open the gate.

Lesley
Some photos of the animals in the snow - the hens all stayed under cover and the photos didn't come out, the snow on the roofs made it quite dark. Sheep - they do have a field shelter but prefer to stay out.... The Eglus.... No piggies yet.... Cows.... Poor Vic the Tractor... A cat on the hay bales... Damp wood The main road - just beyond the gate.... and....... Jazz!
