Ain't Nobody Here
Well done . Not something that had really occurred to me, that bees had diseases!
Daphne
I have a mental picture of you, surgical gown on, preparing to operate on a bee At the weekend we saw 2 wild baby boar, standing at the side of the road, up a mountain, all gingery and striped. They were the cutest things ever
The Dogmother
Good luck Lewis xx Tiny boars and rare breed pigs are the sweetest things ever.
Lewis
There's lots of wild boar here, I didn't realise how big they were - some of the guys hunt them with Eagles! A couple times we've been on the train and seen wild boar or deer in the fields
The Dogmother
When I worked on the Estate, one of the guys there used to go wild boar hunting in Croatia every winter, really roughing it in deep snow and staying in stone bothies.
Ain't Nobody Here
Not quite wild boar but we were doing a recce of a hill race and saw a fox, a red squirrel and a buzzard within 5 minutes. This was in the middle of Perth too!
Purplemaniacs
Well done Lewis and good luck with the rest of the exams. Last week I saw a fox on the grass verge, it was stationary, I think it was waiting to pounce on something and a group of deer crossing a road in front of us. On both occasions I had two granddaughters with me so we had a good view of both. Chrissie
The Dogmother
I regularly see all sorts of wildlife on my walks with the hounds... Buzzards, deer (fallow, Muntjak and red), rabbits, hares, stoats, sparrow hawks, foxes and all manner of bird life. I am waiting for red kites to make their way up here; they are nearly there. chickencam
We have a lot of deer around here, we see them in the fields next to our house and on evening walks. We also see the occasional Jay there is a small population that live around the grounds of the Boy's College.
Lewis
Jays are the bane of my life at the moment. They're nesting all over campus and if anyone walks past with a dog they get dive bombed and poo'd on but its even worse if you're trying to free fly a Harris Hawk 'cos they go for us and the birds, to the point where there's nowhere to fly them without getting covered DM, for Red Kite you need to go to Aberystwyth
chickencam
Ok so Jays don't sound like much fun to be around
Bramble
It won't be long until you have Red Kites, DM, saw four on my route to work this morning - which isn't uncommon - I wasn't looking for them, they were just there! I know they are also on the outskirts of Oxford which can't be that far from you!
The Dogmother
The nearest I have seen them is 5 miles away, which isn't far at all in kite terms. The Boy live at the top of The Chilterns, and has them flying beneath the farm, in the valley.
The Dogmother
I think that most of you know that my mother is in the latter stages of stroke-induced dementia; a very cruel and hard condition. Rosie sent me a link to which describes it perfectly. Very moving, but so accurate

The Dogmother
Tripped over a loop of bramble while out walking yesterday, and put my hand out to prevent doing a face plant in a pile of nettles. My wrist went right back, nothing cracked, and it isn't broken, but is sore today
Ain't Nobody Here
Ouch . Hope it recovers quickly .
Alis girls
Do ladybirds bite? I was putting some washing out and something flew onto my eye. It was resting on my top lashes and I am so glad I wear mascara as it didnt go into the eye. My first impulse was to panic but I managed to get it out and could feel tingling under the eye itself. Took an antihistamine and OH had a look and couldnt see any thing amiss. I am sure it was a ladybird. I hate flies going in the eye very painful. The Dogmother
Summer must be here - I was just watching the house martins and swallows screeling over the rooftops... to be replaced by bats in about half an hour!
patsylabrador
It's definitely summer - I'm sitting out in the garden with a glass of wine and wearing my wellies and a cardi. MS said something funny today - he's a trucker and said he likes to get settled and driving in his truck by 10am so that he can listen to Women's Hour. That just struck me as quite funny. Daphne
I'm sitting outside in the sun but with jeans, T shirt and a shirt on - its not as warm as it should be here either On the positive side - we picked 11 lbs of cherries yesterday from a neighbour (with his blessing)
Lewis
It was pushing 29oC here this week, awesome sunny days followed by tropical lightning storms of an evening I've been stuck inside revising though I stayed up until 5am revising this morning and got a B in General Microbiology today but failed Genetics on Wednesday. I knew my questions but most of our exams are oral and the lecturer is a challenge to say the least, caught me out on one little detail so have to retake in July. Over half the class failed the first time, just inconvenient to come back for one exam
The Dogmother
That's a shame Lewis, good luck with the retake though.
