Proud mum alert!

Rosie with Drew

Well, in the middle of her GCSEs (all 25 exams) the prom wasn't exactly well timed, but she made it in the end..... a medley of photos...

With Rosie in the garden is her friend Sapphire, who got changed here with Rosie before meeting up with the friends she was sharing a car with. Standing by the house with Rosie is her boyfriend, Drew; he goes to another school, so wasn't allowed to go to the prom, but entrusted Rosie to his friend Aaron, who was her date for the night, and kindly bought her a lovely wrist corsage.

Because she wanted to be different, not girly (and because she's her mum's daughter  ) Rosie didn't fancy a traditional limo, so we hired a policeman friend's G4 Landrover, which he has used in rallies all over the world, and most recently in Morocco. I have to say that it suited her down to the ground. Also arriving at the prom was a double decker bus, and a fleet of Hell's Angels on Harleys and old Triumphs, all wearing skull masks (prom girl and beau, helmet-less and pillion)..... oh, and a BIIIIG truck cab! The lanes around the golf club were choked with vehicles and we had to go off-road to get back home after dropping them off.

My 'warrior-girl' scrubbed up very well, and it was nice to see her in smart clothes instead of running gear.

She looks absolutely lovely, Clare! Just goes to show you don't need to be over the top girly to be feminine. It is refreshing to see a young woman who doesn't have fake tan and hair extensions, and appears extremely comfortable in her own skin. Great to see the different modes of transport, and I love her choice of carriage 8)

She looks more like you as she gets older, I think.

Thank you friends.... I'm not ashamed to admit that I got a bit teary last night when I'd seen her off; she looked so grown up and self-assured. We've certainly had our ups and downs over the years, especially these last few months with the pressure of her exams  but (when she wants to be) she can be a remarkable and lovely young lady.

Those of you who were early forum members will remember her at this age....

... she's not changed a lot!

Claire, just don't tell her that she looks like me - that doesn't go down well at all; even though we looked very similar when young, although I was darker than her.

I remember a 10 year old Rosie waving to me from the car at Banbury train station the first time I met you, helping her to catch chickens and bring ponies in at the yard for the following few years after that and look at her now - I almost feel like a proud big brother! :D

I can almost feel your heart bursting with pride. I

Isn't it nice to see a naturally beautiful girl, who looks like she has her stuff together... I bet you look at her and think to yourself....well done, job done....

I used to be excited to see what my kids would be as adults, I had my youngest at 17 (I was a wild nightmare!!) but I couldn't be prouder, I feel incredibly blessed and very lucky....and a little bit scared??

That's very touching Lewis; I know she's enjoyed the time with you.

Last exam tomorrow; Advanced Physics, then hopefully I'll have my happy girl back. She's had so many exams because she is taking triple science, and has practicals as well as written exams, including music recitals. For soem reason, the school has a group of them entered for 3 different maths qualifications too

You can imagine the number of ghastly dresses we had to trawl through before finding something she liked, which wasn't too revealing, too blingy or too bright... most of them wouldn't have looked out of place on Strictly or Gypsy Weddings!

At the moment it's either medicine or bio-medicine.... we've got her A Levels to get through first though  The school was pushing her to do 5, but we have stuck to 4, and she has swapped Physics for English Lit as it's a passion of hers, so if she decides against medicine and goes into teaching (another possibility) then she has that flexibility. So it's Maths, Chemistry, Biology and English Lit. They wanted her to do further maths too, but I got the feeling that was more so that the maths dept got extra brownie points  she is good at maths and finds it easy, but doesn't enjoy the subject, so is taking it just as a means to the end.

Very pretty young woman - love the dress modest but sexy too without her falling out of it like so many young women seem to these days. Less is more they say. Shes a stunner - good luck with those exams. Son has prom this week - then its goodbye school. You never forget waving them off at 4/5 and going home and sobbing cos your babys gone. :boohoo: memories

Angie - the prom was a bit odd by all accounts... it started in the planning stages as being billed at one local golf course, but ended up being at another, with the switch happening quite late on in the proceedings; neither of us knew until Rosie brought her ticket home and we noticed the different venue. Perhaps they got double-booked  the lads and lasses I saw all looked lovely - a couple of oddly garish or daring outfits, one girl who was dressed up in a Moulin Rouge outfit and looked very good. I am told that one lad (a trouble maker) had been barred from attending because of poor attendance and behaviour, but his friends bundled him in the boot of their prom vehicle in his boxer shorts and dragged him out at the prom!!!! Reminds me of college rag week

There was a the prom ticket to pay for, but no information when I phoned the school about refreshments or music. It turns out that they all got free ice creams from an old-fashioned ice cream van, but the drinks were really expensive and there was no food!

The after-party was better by all accounts... the pro ended at 11.30pm, she came back to get changed and I walked her down to her friend's house at midnight as the friend's brother was taking a few of them to this party, hanging around in case of any trouble and then bringing them back... she got in at 3.30am, so neither of us got much sleep; it was 'a blast' by but very loud. I don't think I'd have volunteered to have about 40 16 year olds at my house for a hooley!

Just picked this thread up as we have been away for the w/e 8) Rosie looks so lovely - she is clearly a smart and individual young woman (well done, Mum  !) and has immense strength - thinking back to her accident and brilliant recovery!

All good wishes to her for a happy and successful future
