Off to Vet School!

Recommended Posts

After years of dreaming, work experience and exams, I'm finally off to vet school! :D

It's not the path I ever imagined if you'd have asked me 10 years ago but after not really trying my hardest and having too much fun at school I chose to do an Animal Science BSc and now I have an offer to do the 4 year post-BSc course at UMV Kosice, in Slovakia!

The course is all taught in English, accredited by the Royal Veterinary College over here so I can register with RCVS and practice over here, EU etc.

The main reason for going there is the fees are £6,000 a year as opposed to £26,500 of some UK uni's and as I have a degree I won't get another student loan so have to fund it myself and with the help of family.

I've been working for a year to save up and visited the uni in March. I heard while I was there that I'd been accepted but kept it quiet as I've been sorting the legal paperwork but I've just booked my flights and its all becoming real! :D

I'm still getting used to the idea of moving away to study now I'm so settled at home but I'm excited to start a new adventure and I don't want to turn round in 20 years and think, what if... :D

Well Done Lewis :clap::clap::clap::clap:

I have friends who are partners in a vet practice, and with the retirement of one partner another young vet has been made an offer to buy into the partnership. He is Polish (I think he studied in Poland but I'm not 100% sure) and a great vet. The world is your oyster 8)

Its a great opportunity and a great thing to be able to live, study and work in another country. I'm sure bits of it will be hard, but I really hope you enjoy the experience :D

Congratulations ! I'm a bit jealous as I always really wanted to be a vet, but allowed my parents to convince me it was too hard and ended up as an accountant instead. Did consider a change of career a few years back, but, as you say, UK fees are a huge deal esp if you already have a degree. Hope it is all you dreamed of. Good Luck and have fun over there.
